Interesting thought... progression

I just woke up with this thought in my head: Since I've never seen a ski movie, will I be a more progressive skier than those that have? Reasoning- If I haven't seen a movie, then I will have no preconceived notions about how I should ski or what's cool. Therefore, I will ski my own way in my own style, thinking of tricks that have not been done before. Progressing...

I realize that this view sort of backfires after posting it on this site.

One of the core elements of creativity is having something something to build off of. You progress when you put together existing things in ways no one else has thought of before.

That might depend on what else you do and what your around. If your mom dresses you, you might end up wearing jeans and a hoodie, or you could mimick something you may have seen in wakeboarding, rollerblading, skating, or anything else and you just might be original

thats really weird, i thought of kinda the same thing today, how would i ski without NS, like would i still be into racing and bumps or what? would i even know what afterbang is? i sure as hell wouldnt be wearing the shit that i do or listen to the music i do or speak the way i do and to NS i give thanks

Nah dude, your looking at it all wrong.. Watching other people ski, you can see stuff you like, learn it, then build on it.. You know learn from eachother and lollipops and unicorns

basically, youre imagined person is vinnie dorion, jp, jf or some other guy from the very beginning. they didnt know what is possible on skis, they just tried to do spins, grabs and flips and pushed the limits always a little further. so after a few years riding, you would throw 3s (if your really good: 7s) not even dreaming of doing switch tricks. thats what i think.

if you try by yourself and you dont know others are doing it, you cant imagine riding backwards more than 2 mph. havent you felt like "thats now working" when you hit your first kicker switch? i felt that and i wouldnt hit another kicker switch, if it wasnt in every movie

Skiing has definitely gotten to a point where you need to watch and build off of what other people are doing/have done

The logic is interesting but only really works when a sport is brand new I think.

On the other hand, if you were a park builder and never knew the mundane and uncreative way of putting a park together, I think you could breath fresh air into the sport for sure!

to r5 tommy

yah that would be sweet if somone that had never seen a park just came in a built a ridiculously progressive banger of a park

except i think they wouldnt no what to do
