Interesting New View on Israeli Policy

This is a video of a Holocaust survivor discussing the tretment of Palestinians by Israel. I thought it was particularly interesting as it offered the perspective of someone who has been horribly oppressed in the past comparing the treatment.

Well israel treats a lot of innocent palestinians like militants and palestinians blindly shoot rockets at israeli civilians. Its an insolvable problem whatcha gonna do

There's a really awesome documentary here: http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/promises/ (free) made by an American Jew who grew up in Israel about the sheer similarities between children on both sides of the lines. The political extremist children at both sides refused to meet with the other side because they are "lesser people" but the moderate children from both sides agree to meet with children of the other background. Anyway, they come to find out just how similar they are and end up getting along great and become friends.

As long as the political extremists from both sides are in charge, there will never be peace.

I'll have to check that out.

I've heard Palestinians say how before the invasion by Israel they used to get along fine with the Jews in the area, even babysat their children during Yom Kipur (probably spelled that wrong).

And to Arab1an, yeah that chart says it all.

I understand that there will always be one group oppressing another, it's human nature as tragic as it is. But what I don't understand is the blind support of Israel by the U.S. people. The complete and total lack of coverage of the real issues at hand by the media in this country is sickening.

When they stop living for god as sheep and start living as humans then these problems won't exist.

......

Explain to me this logic, please.

And believe me, these people that are doing this are not God loving people, otherwise they would'nt be doing this shit. Inb4 religion shitstorm

Not really, they may have taken some liberties with the fourth image, but the first three are spot on.

I hope that within our lifetimes Israel will realize that it's within their security interests to cede back some land to the Palestinians so they can have their state, while the Palestinians need to realize that they won't get every inch they had back and that Israel has far more effective weapons than they do.

eh both sides have extremists... its decently unsolvable. however israel needs to stop building settlements, palestinian leadership both PA and Hamas needs to get there shit together and not be so corrupt. palestinians living on the israeli side have more rights than palestinians living in the west bank and especially gaza. israel treats palestinians in jerusalem as full citizens; access to schools, medical care, and even sewage/sanitation is something that many palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank don't enjoy, because Hamas is corrupt as shit and they use their citizens as tools to blame their situation on Israeli oppression. the palestinian authority likes to steal humanitarian funds and allow disgusting inequality in the West Bank. however, Israel's current right-wing government under Netanyahu does some pretty inadvisable (read: horrible) things, such as the boycott/isolation of Gaza's economy, and its understandable that many palestinians are pissed off as shit about that. yet, launching rockets does no good for either side, as Israel's military prowess far exceeds anything Hamas is capable of. Hamas gets a pity party from the world because they know Israel has to retaliate to stop rockets from getting fired, and Gaza has such a high population density that of course civilians are going to get killed. Israel has enough military technology to ensure minimal israeli civilian deaths, so obviously they are in a delicate situation. the rest of the Arab world isn't so kind to palestinians either - Egypt maintains the same boycott/border control of Gaza that Israel does. Syria is sorta fucked so let's skip that for a second, but Jordan and Lebanon won't even let palestinians immigrate. They're clearly getting the short end of the stick from all sides, so let's not just point the finger at Israel. the fact is, the average palestinian and israeli citizen couldnt really give a fuck about the religious bullshit, theyre torn by extremists on both sides. Moral of the story, no peace will come until extremist-terrorist groups like Hamas are not the voice of the palestinians, and extremists like Netanyahu are not leading the Israelis. a middle ground can be found, we just need more moderate leadership on both sides.

oh yah - to the people who say Jews took the Palestinians land - let's look at that argument. Hmm - I wonder who's land North America is? before you say Jews need to give their land back to palestinian's, let's give North America back to the Natives? The british/french/spanish were genocidal maniacs in the 17th/18th/19th centuries comparied to the last 70 odd years of Israel.

This is the most honest and intelligent post about this issue Newschoolers has ever seen.

And I must agree with you 100%.

I understand your point, and that may not be accurate (what I said). While I take issue with the colonization and the racial cleansing, it isn't my main point.

My problem is that you, me, and every other working citizen in the United States is literally paying for this to happen. Every time Uncle Sam takes taxes from you, a portion goes to Israel. Why? What possible service do they provide us as an ally? Are their troops out there next to ours fighting? Do we have bases in Israel that are beneficial?

On another note, how much money do we give to our other allies? As far as I know, we don't give billions of dollars to any of them.

Israel is bleeding this country dry, and I firmly believe that we need to cut off aide to them.

uh can you give us some numbers to illustrate your point please? I'm not quite sure you really know what you're talking about. Please don't take offense. But saying Israel is bleeding the states dry is flat out wrong, and believe me, the US has invested foreign policy/economic interests in maintaining a liberal democracy in that region.
