Interesting idea

Good idea but probably gets expensive if resorts are getting them for every jump they have. There are also still going to be jerries who sit on the knuckle and either don't know what the signs mean or don't care.

It's not the the first time somebody gas thought of something similar, and this setup looks pretty janky.

It's just not necessary imo. Usually with any common sense you can avoid issues, and the people without common sense will hit this anyway.

Better than the guy wasting his company's time to evaluate the size of corduroy, but I'm not a huge fan. Decent concept but I hope it doesn't catch on.

I can’t imagine that it would be super reliable. Especially in snowy conditions. If thats the case then it will end up just giving people a false sense of confidence and they will be less aware

Y’all talking a lot of shit and I don’t expect this would be completely effective. But damn, still a good idea and nobody knows how well they might work. Depending on the sensing tech these could be cheap as chips, too, they don’t look that intense. Even if they’re ignored by most people, a couple newbies in the park are still gonna be curious about a stoplight and will be more likely to learn rules/etiquette.

If it says green instead of red, and there's a collision 1 time, that could be a big problem.

Idk. I like the idea, I like that somebody is trying to makes parks safer I just don't want it to become a thing. That's just like my opinion though

Not if they include a disclaimer or waver within in the terms of condition by buying a ski pass or day passes. After all the parks are enter at your own risk so could those signs Be treated

How about a big bubble mirror on the side of the knuckle so you can see if people are there

Even with any amwaivers and safety info on your pass, signage on hill, being told not to do dumb shit. You can ignore all warning and do dumb shit that you were specifically told not to and still sue. Might not win but you've always got a shot.

People suck.

Most people roll up to the drop. Wait their turn or for a breakm watch that the people riding before clear and look like they land clean or come out into sight and then drop.

I've been rum over, had my gear run over, many times raking jumps or even marking accidents. People don't give a fuck. The jerries that need a system like that wouldn't stop if there was a giant led sign and ski patrol blocking something off. They would still try and send it, be ignorant af if yelled at, and sue if injured claiming they weren't told about the risks etc.

i totally agree there with you. As you probably have seen and i did as well, there is always the special kind of "extra" person that just goes full ignore and ruins it. But legally at least the resort is "safe" (you'renever but you get what i mean) from law suites losses.

I feel like only - as stupid as it sounds - slope police that is authorized to take down those ignorant reckless skiers could help with the hope of legal persecution for the instance of injuries or causing injuries on 3rd parties. Since they are actually putting other skiers safety in jeapordy.

(i hope i make sense here , excuse my language.)

I wish they'd do something to help curb the the gaper issues in parks. I think it's less about the resort and more the culture these days.

When you woukd go to the skatepark, you'd watch out for the good kids and stay in a reasonable area. Sure sometines you'd get in the way or do something stupid, but that's gonna happen.

People don't give a fuck now. Skateparks and terrain parks are like a daycare. There were always jerries, there were always new people, but seems like it's more accepted now.

It sucks. When there are 5 parks closer to someones ability level but they skip all of them to go througu the largest park and then sidejump and get in the way. Wtf. Last season we decided to build a full length 13' mini pipe next to our 18'. Most people actually took advantage of it but I remember dropping while 3 kids and their parents were doing wedge turns through the big pipe. So slow that it was about 4 or 5 minutes for them to get down.

People suck idk.

I feel like this could be pretty easily improved by using garage closing stopper lasers (the thing u squat jump over when you close your garage and run out before it shuts). Have one setup right before the jump that trips and sets the sign red when the person comes past, and it wouldn’t display green until the one past the bottom of the landing triggers. If they eat shit they can Collect their yard sale then ski down and trigger it when they are all good. This just prevents relying on some sort of shit camera image rec (which I have decent experience working with and it’s not reliable whatsoever in changing lighting and clarity conditions). Really only makes sense on larger jump lines on low vis days, any other time common sense is the best safety measure

I feel like these sensors are relatively inexpensive, no? Either some kind of IR or a pair of point a to b sensors? Like the park master said it’s a big liability and instead we should just learn park etiquette, but there will always be idiots. I don’t think it’s as bad of an idea as people are making it out to be though.

Neat idea until it malfunctions and someone wins the lottery for getting hurt.

"The light told him it was ok to hit the jump, I was still in the landing, my head is on the floor, pay me my money."

This looks like it's using an infrared sensor which is no where near adequate in my opinion. If it were using the same tech as tesla is using in self driving cars to identify pedestrians in the road, I might trust that but I doubt it could be powered by a stand alone power supply and there's no way any park program would be able to fit that into their budget.

A few questions I'd have right off the bat...

- How is it being aimed and calibrated daily because it obviously has to be removed for grooming?

- What kind of training will an average 18-25yo have to go through to be certified to calibrate this device?

- How is it being powered?

- What kind of impact rating does it have to prevent this obviously expensive piece of gear from breaking?

- Does it break away to ensure it's not an impact or impalement hazard to riders if they collide with it?

- What does it weigh?

- Does it have to be transported in a massive pelican type case or is it robust enough for any park crew guy hop on the lift with it?

I like where the dudes head is at but the industry isn't ready for something like this.

Wanna solve the jerry problems in parks? Start talking to the young kids about park safety instead of laughing at them and posting their jerriness to instagram.

Hope it doesnt cause any interference with RFID passes at resorts who have them. I can only imagine how much fun it would be if everytime you hit a feature you had to go to the pass office lol

Or how about snows version of a lifeguard/gatekeeper letting us all know when the fuck it’s ok to go ??

this honestly isn't necessary imo. MSLM is my home mountain, and the parks there are well designed so as there is only one lane going into each jump line. there's also a little park for all the jerrys called the skoolyard where kids can learn about the safety of landings and etiquette on 10-15 foot jumps
