Hey dudes.

As I'm piling up camera gear, I've decided to start to insure my gear. If I were to purchase second-hand items such as a camera body or lens, how would I go about proof of purchase if I have/haven't purchased the item yet.

Thanks

Not many cover stolen gear. Its around 200 bucks for 3 years for a 60D/t3i. That includes basically anything but theft.

Real insurance. Like the kind your parents (and mine) currently cover for you (and me)...(respectively).

not all home owners insurance will cover camera gear. my state farm insurance wont so im pursuing a specialty agent for supplemental insurance for my gear

That's what I'm talking about. Our parents pay that shit and we don't have to worry about it.

And Evan, are you doing that through State Farm as well?

that's just like a protection plan/extended warranty really. real insurance basically covers anything that happens to your shit including theft. just like how if you get something stolen from your house, it's covered under homeowner's insurance.

apparently my parents' state farm homeowner's insurance covers my gear if it's stolen, for the time being at least.

Homeowners insurance. Talk to your parents, and just have boxes of your items with proof of purchase codes handy (you can buy use lenses/camera boxes on most forums) and they should cover it

I have the extended warranty on my 60d, I payed like $150 for it from the store I bought it at, it covers all malfunctions. IMO but I think its worth it, stuff happens and paying $150 for your peace of mind is better than having to buy a new camera.

As for homeowner's insurance, I talked to my dad about my camera gear and he said that it would be covered, but if they claimed the $2000-3000, their policy would go up, so if its worth it or not to claim it is up to you. He said if it ever got stollen it would be cheaper to just buy new gear than to claim it through the insurance.

Doesn't always cover, like I said. It depends on your company. I have to get mine through a different agent because my state farm agent cant.

I just called in to my parents insurance, State Farm, and got my camera gear and laptop insured

It cost $40 a year with $0 deductible for the laptop

$50 a year, with a $100 deductible for all my camera gear, ~$1800 of gear
