“I would think it'd be stupid to ski without insurance...

Medical bills can add up faster than you can say 'your parents getting a 3rd mortgage on their house'”

“Definitely buy health insurance. 100 a month may seem like alot, but I blew my knee out, which cost maybe 12 grand between surgery and rehab. I had a deductible of about 2000, but if I did not have insurance I would have paid all of it out of pocket... Hopefully you will never have to use it, the way I did, but I urge everyone on the website to be smart and get covered. Look at Boyd Easly, he had to get a pig ACL due to lack of insurance and he has not had a video part since. 100$ a month may seem like alot of money, but 10-15 grand in surgery and rehab is alot more.”

What up skiers- as you know, the sport and style of skiing that we do is mad fun and really progressive. But with this comes a large factor of risk. We push ourselves and our friends in this sport to a new level. Trying to “sack-up” and disaster a rail or throw a switch rodeo 7 for the first time can always result in that dope feeling of success, but it can also have a dismal outcome as well. Some may overshoot a jump and bruise their heels and be a bit shaken up, some may overshoot a jump and break their pelvis. Whatever the case is, hospital bills are a gargantuan these days, and not having insurance to cover some of the costs inflicted can really have a long lasting, negative financial effect.

This spring, I got an internship at Northwestern Mutual Financial Network. Here, I got licensed by California to sell life insurance, health insurance, and annuities. For skiers like us, though, health insurance is really the only thing that applies (Unless you’re married or have kids). Setting up a policy at a young age not only will have lower premiums, but guaranteed insurability in the later years, where circumstances that arise that would prevent one from getting a policy. I’m stoked about my internship, not to be a greasy salesperson, but to help others financially.

As a skier myself, I have been to the hospital twice because of ski related stuff, and both times my insurance covered me. I really don’t want to see my friends and fellow newschoolers have to give up an entire ski season to pay for an injury that happened the previous year.

So, if you want to talk about this more, feel free to call me at 650-814-6889, or hit me up with email at chrismckleroy@mac.com.

Fuck the U.S. healthcare system...

I say that people start hating on France (who has the #1 healthcare system IN THE WORLD) and start stealing their Ideas.

Doesnt get much worse than being like.. 37th in the world behind Costa Rica (no offense to Costa Rica of course)

I dont know.. I just say we get our healthcare system in shape so I dont have to worry about being denied if I hurt my knee again and therefore need to go to Canada.

^brohon, im not talking about the U.S. Healthcare system. That is for 85 year olds. Im talking about having a personal plan for health coverage.

how about not relying on the govt. for our health care? how about bring the corrupt trial lawyers/judges, health care ceos, lobbyists, drug cos., etc. to the table and get it straightened out. i don't want socialized health care, i just want to get what i pay for. actually, bush's health care savings plan is brilliant.

Oprah? wtf? haha.

No, I was just heated cuz I saw this thing that Phil Donohue was talking about on Youtube.

I didnt even read your thing, I just saw medical and insurance and ski and I was like RANT TIME! haha.

well that was almost word for word what Michael Moore said on the ophra show talking about his new movie Sicko.

Ew.. no shit?

Michael Moore is fat and basically the liberal equivelent to Bill O'Reilly and those stupid pundits... (but he did do some hilarious things in that one documentery he did against General Motors..)

I was more or less restating what I heard Phil Donohue say... in that he was like "wth is america doing ranked 37th in the world in healthcare BEHIND COSTA RICA! no offense to them of course... but we need to make serious changes"

Well, you can do something about this shitty, behind costa rica, healthcare system we have. You take action. If you were mexican cleaning ladies, sure, wait for the government. But were all skiers here, and that in itself is madly expensive. im throwin this out there becuase you really shouldnt make something cost more than it has to.

Costa Rica has a legit health care system, but only in the big cities. People from the united states actaully travel to San Jose Costa Rica because they have better less expensive doctors for major surgeries.
