Instructors

Do we have any instructors in the house? Who works with their home mountain to try to make it a better place?

There are threads about everything so why not ask I figure. I instruct at my local hill, never get any lessons looking for new school tips but thats ok. I figure as long as I am getting young kids into skiing and starting them off on the right path then skiing will live on... I think this year they won't take me as serious without the stereotypical ski bum shag hair style though ahaha

i am CSIA level one at the moment i'm gunna take my level 2 in march i hope and then ya more work i work at whitewater resort in nelson BC its an awesome place i love it there, my home away from home.

I have yet to get PSIA certification... I isn't required where I work but I may get level one this year. I find instructing is tons of fun but sometimes I just wanna ski really really bad

this will be my fifth year teaching... this year i will finally have the funds and health to get my level 1

I instructed all through high school and the 2002-03 season at Boreal. I always found myself working more than skiing. It's a good idea if you live super-close to the mountain. It's fun after you get past all the never-ever's.

I've been teaching for four years. I've got my level 1 PSIA certification as well as my Basic Park and Pipe Certification. I teach freestyle alpine development at my mountain. So basically I ski in the park all winter with the same group of kids. It kicks ass. Plus i'm only 17.

I AM AND I HATE DEALING WITH THOSE LITTLE SHITS THEY THREW HOT CHOCOLATE ON MY BRAND NEW LOGIC HAT!!! THOSE LITTLE SHIT HEADS I ALMOST KICKED HIM IN THE FACE!!!

Pretty much all the instuctors at my mountain are posers. they all act so stuck up and cocky and they actually suck really bad.

wow thats a lot of hate... I agree lots of instructors are not on par with my riding... actually only maybe 4-5 ppl with the PSIA 2 and 3 certs can school me at all on proper technique, other than that I have no faith in the instructors to A) give quality lessons and B) ski well enough themselves to know what theyre talken about... guess thats why I have such a high success rate/request rate

im an instructor..im out now cuase i broke my collarbone..but different days were better than others..sometimes id get kids that would wanna ski park and wanna progress spins and shit but other times its beginners which can get annoying as hell

childrens instructor here, 8 a hour, only work 3 hours a day and get paid for 5. so all the down time i get to ski park, or give race privates. (yea start the hate, but just be carefull of who you are talking to.)

i wanna teach next year or volunteer as park crew at mt snow or killy, free season pass n discounts on a ton of stuff and i get to go keep the park in shape, pretty good deal, maybe some teaching i dunno

i currently am an instructor at my mountian(wachusett)and it is not what i expected it too be. Some days are awesome and really awarding but other days i find myself thinkg about how i could push one of my students off of the lift and no one would know.

i only get 7 dollars per a group lesson.

15 per private.

and 30 per requested private.

but the season pass and half of the food is good.

and all of the other teachers at my mountain are posers except for 2 other kids that i hang out with.

What does PSIA stand for?

Probably stay inside anyway.

How many ski instructors does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

1 to screw it in and nine to critique the turns.

What does PSIA spell backward?

Assholes In Ski Pants.

How do you know if you're at a party with a ski instructor?

He'll tell you.

Keep on teachin' peoples. We definately need more asses in it though.

I always thought PSIA stood for "People Say I'm Awesome" or "Pole Stuck In Ass"

Of course, I probably shouldn't talk shit because I'm level 2 PSIA. Of course, I really only do it for the pass . . . I get like 15 lessons a year.

i'm a freestyle instructor. i coach a bunch of middle school girls. we ski for about and hour of 2 in the park or what not and then go inside because they are cold. it ends at 11 45 and i have the rest of the day to myself.

thats pretty cool that so many people here are instructors...

I don't get any fresstyle lessons... I give free tips to those who are in need and ask but I dont go holding clinics for free...

Personally I like giving lessons to young children as long as I can get them fired up about skiing. Seeing someone new to the sport having the time of their life is what its all about. Making the young ones feel good on snow and promoting skiing. Hopefully in a few years they'll remember their first instructor and takeup freeskiing.

i get 13.50 and hour and a free pass so its worth it. im the only one out of like 160 the skis park though so i agree that most ski instructors are cocky little bitches but dont stereotype

Hows it going everyone, I'm new to NS and am enjoying the atmosphere and just thought I'd chime in on this one. Being an instructor definitely has its perks. Hell, I give like 3 lessons a week and then spend the rest of the time skiing. Its nice to show up whenever and go out and work on my progression. I'm jealous of those of you who get to teach freeskiing. My boss would have a stroke if I asked to let me teach that.

I got my NZSIA stage one (equivalant to CSIA 2)over the summer.

Haven't actually been paid to instruct yet but hoping to get over to the U.S. or Canada next winter.

If I want to instruct enough to live and get as much to time to ski as possible which is the best resort to apply to?

i instruct, i barely work tho. so they might not take me next season. i fucking hate it tho. if i could jus work mornings id be fine. but full fucking days teaching 4-11 yr olds who cant figure out how to fucking make a wedge.

sry, im venting cuz i have a comp this weekend. and im trying to reschedule my job schedule for that day. and since ive barely worked (most of the time they let me go cuz they didnt need me) theres a chance they wont let me reschedule it. probably cuz of being understaffed. so i basicaly gotta work in my charm with the 19 yr old supervisor which is money.

CSIA 2, CASI 1, CSCF 1, taught for like 8 years at hockley valley resort in ontario (300 ft of thigh burning terror), one spring at sunshine AB, and coached racing for one season at Camp Fortune QC.

now that i'm old and have a full time job i just can't justify getting up early on weekends. so i just ski when i want.

I teach ski-wee at Jiminy Peak. thats anywhere between 3-12 year old from 9:00 in the morning till 3:25 in the afternoon. tips make it good though....and the seasons pass

im an instructor.

lately theyve had me teaching snowboarding due to lack of snowboard instructors showing up.. skiing is so much easier to teach.

i want to be an instructor this year - need to save some $$ first though

i dont get why everyone says instructors are assclowns - in 5 years of taking lessons ive only come across 1 guy who was a douchebag but he was a filthy french soap dodging tree hugging granola munching rando guy - the other 2 french instructors & all the aussie instructors ive been with are cool

I am an instructor,

I might quit next year because we might get moroon jackets with musturd yellow stripes going down the arm.

i got my CSIA 2, thinkin bout gettin CSCF 1 and park'n'pipe but couldn't be arsed- too good a season to waste on learning to teach twats. i just prefer to rip round the hill and dabble in the park.

Fucking aye, I coach alpine development freestyle at my mountain. 10 weeks with all 9-12 year olds. My favorite kid was throwing down 3's + switch unnatural 180s and he's 9. Plus he's probably coming with me the Momentum this summer. Kid's gonna be pro. Anyway I just talked to my supervisor and we're gonna try to get a pro to come up over next years break to coach a freestyle camp with me. FUCK YEA.

Ohh yea, Level 1 PSIA and Basic Park and Pipe accredited. So PSIA was going to have three park clinics this year from basic to advanced. I took the basic one and it was awesome. And it turns out i'm the only one in the whole east to sign up for the intermediate clinic. What the fuck? You guys better sign up for next year.

thats what iv been trying to do, but college happened and i have been stuck w/ no time for psia events. by the end of next year hopefully il be at least level one basic freestyle
