Ok so long story short i may be working soon for a lady known as judy pfaff. shes a famous artist known for her sculptures and installlations. "Basically" and installation is a gallery setup using random shit it can be anything. it is then arranged to depictmoods, sounds, patterns, optical shit, emotions, anythign!

example:

. sooo. the reason i might be doing this is because she is local and like to hire the help of young welders and such ( BIG FUCKING CASH), i myself am a fucking awesome welder (not trying to be conceded). im completely qualified on mannny levels and im also a decent artist (more on the mini sculpture and graffiti side).

ex of some of my shit (gift i made. not my best tho)

but what im trying to say is that i really want to work for this lady but i have no experience in installation art. i feel that if i do work for her i should at least know the understanding of it. when i look at it i feel like its a bunch of shit all thrown together in weird patterns. i KNOW what its supposed to mean. i just dont know why!

i think its kind of like the emperor and his robe story. he had some grand tailor come in and the tailor made him a robe out of "invisible thread". he walked around naked pretty much and everyone was all like your clothes are so grand. they said this cuz they were afraid hed kill them or something. but one young boy was like hes naked! everyone said SHHH cuz they didnt want the emperor to hear. the little boy was liek BULLSHIT! MOTHAFUCKAS NAKED!

so is it really art that i should understand or is it a bunch of people following some guidlines set down by others so that they can mimic understanding?

i need your input on the subject especially if your are artistically gifted. and if you wanna talk about it in depth please feel free to pm me

thanks!

it may feel untalented but remember, this kind of art is all about originality. and that takes talent. well done i really love the stair one.

i dont know i think you have to be slightly messed up in the head to do shit like that and get away with it. anyways is welding hard? because my trampoline broke and its summery now and i dont have alot of money

and if it does mean anything i truly truly believe that art is a DEFinate way of expressing onesself. its all about interpretation. i just need help interpretating

I'm extremely hard to please when it comes to Artwork, and I find these to be INCREDIBLE. That second one is so sick. Do it man, let me know how it goes.

it's art. everything thing they do has a reason. never throw out the word arbitrary, ever. I dont know anything about this stuff, but whether her stuff is actually good or not, if you want a job, know her work. Research her stuff online. see it in person. look at what you would be doing with it, so look at the welding. If she knows that you understand her work, what goes into it, and how to weld (not just how to weld, but what she needs for welding), youll be in a good position.

nice! I've always admired her work. And this is going to be a great opportunity for you!

Installation art has always been fascinating to me. I personally love being presented with an alternative reality to explore. To answer your question though, an installation is essentially an altering of space or an environment, in this case a gallery, using any materials such as paper, metal, clay, or light. Usually the artist is trying to convey a certain idea. Not to be critical, but dont ask someone to define what an installation is for you, or for that matter, any art. The artist is most likely trying to convey some idea or theme, but ultimately it is the experience of you, the viewer that "defines" the art. You dont have to understand every aspect of what the artist had in mind, or any of it for that matter, to appreciate it. Your emotional response, wether its apathy, horror, excitment or inspiration is more enlightening to your own experience and therefore defintion than anyone elses veiws, even the creators. Thats not to say you cant learn from how others might experience the work, or how you will get to learn and work alongside the artist herself, but trust your experience. Ha, but whoes to say i even know what im talking about... but this is how Ive come to feel about art over the years.

Also, good luck to you! this really sounds like an awesome job you've got lined up!

you could weld it but it probably galvanized steel with is really toxic to weld and doesnt always like to be welded. i tried it once and it was sorta hard to get used to but uts do able but make sure you are outside and wear some protection

that rose (its a rose or a flower? ha) is really fuckin cool. i think with art and interpreting it, you just have to be able to say what you think. like if you look at those rooms and can just say like, oh that looks like this and makes me feel like this and bullshit like that, you'll be fine. art is unique because some things can mean everything to one person, and nothing to the next. just be confident and say what you think.

dunno if that helps.

im sure if you had a welder and it was outside you could just throw a few tacks on it. its poisionous but it wouldnt bee to bad if you did it on a windy day

ya i am sure you can. try to get a mig cause it will be easier for you to use but if not get an arc welder and do some practice. its not going to be easy if you dont any expiernce but i think you should be able to get er done. good luck

i think it's like that to leave it up to the person to interpret it, you know? just like abstract art?

sick rose by the way
