Instagram skiers

Ns members when they see a youngin killing the game and posting their clips to Instagram (where they’ll get the most publicity which is necessary in boosting their career) ????????????????????????
 
I post on Instagram to showcase the fun I had that day/week. I don’t care about likes or anything. If anything it’s for myself so I can look back on how much fun I had while grinding for the clips. I hope to put all my edits on a CD and enjoy them when I’m old and can’t move the same lol
 
Best thing to do is just delete it. I’ve found I can keep up with skiing just with this site and don’t need insta

When you realize the sponsor me edits of the 2000s / 2010s are fundamentally the same as Instagram clips and that the only way to get sponsored is to make your skiing known by promoting through any means necessary

Instagram is a place for people to validate themselves. It’s a circus act for likes and it never shows the full story. All you see is what people want themselves to look like and it’s no surprise that it’s as fake, annoying, and childish as it is.

My main complaint about ig is the lack diversity in the song choices. please be creative people!

But yeah I don’t know about the whole "instagram killing skiing" thing. Hate it or love it instagram is doing a lot for promoting the culture of skiing it’s exposing our sport to new people. I’m not a big pro skier but I’ve had alot of kids telling me they start ski cause of my ig clips

My 2 main concerns with strictly IG skiers are that if you're posting all your banger clips to IG you can't make a legit edit and also what Raf said about lack of creativity is spot on.

I don't fw single clips with music but thats a personal opinion idrc if ppl do it or not

I get what you're saying though. Idk. There's always the "do people do it for the love even" argument. Honestly a lot of people out filming clips skiing fucking love skiing. Sure some people are sick but never film or post clips, that's also fine. It's all preference. I don't think it's bad for the sport. People are hyped. Even posting some shit every day isn't really filming for the gram. Especially if the tricks are on lock.

Some people like watching sick clips on insta, some people don't. Social media is cool if you dig it, if you hate it don't use it. Idk, I think both are fine. I don't really care.

Honestly, well put. I got a bit pissed an I wanted something to take it out on. I am genuinely concerned that skiing is heading in a direction that is more focused on pushing yourself beyond your limits to the point where it isn’t even fun anymore. I guess this just isn’t anything new though.

For sure, I feel that. It always was and wasn't. Obviously now things are legit pushing the boundaries of what is actually physically possible but people have always been pushing. Even if the spins weren't maxing out the possibilities the gaps kinda were. Janky shit full send.

A lot of the progression I watch is people throwing cool shit on rails. Even the crazy shit is kind low consequence compared to a quad. Also a lot of the jump stuff is like a nice ass 7 or something with style.

Insta vibes have definitely changed a lot of stuff, but it kind of is what it is and it's not that bad. It's cool to see people out ripping and be able to share your stuff or see they're stuff on the mountain. I will always have a nostalgia for the simpler times, but skiing is what it is, I don't think it's terrible, and you can embrace it in a form or not, but it still is what it is.

Also NS is always a decent place to complain about anything, in a good way honestly.

Career = receiving free ski gear thier parents would have gladly purchased for them for a couple years before discovering the wonders of marijuana and alcohol and not wearing a helmet
 
i feel like videos and movies have had a resurgence. i like to make short edits to put on insta if i get some clips that day. but would like to make something longer if i get to film more this season.

Instagram keeps me connected with my local mountain community. Sure, it may not be anywhere near ideal. I still find a great deal of comradery with my friends and others I see shredding. That being said I do not get nearly as much connection with the ski community as a whole (comparing to NS when I was younger).
