Insane shop stories

I recently started as a ski tech and have witnessed one of the most absurd setups.

Customer dropped off their Bent Chetler 120s, shifts, and apex boots. Could not figure out if they went for the most expensive products for their setup or what they were even thinking (maybe they have tech boots with the same BSL). I had no idea these boots even existed, we definitely don't carry them.

Ended up getting covid and haven't been in the shop for a week for any updates but will definitely follow up when I return soon. Hopefully I can get a photo to add if we still have them.

Drop some shop stories and lets see what crazy things people have requested or brought in

not super insane but today had a 60yr old dude come in wanting to mount shifts -5cm back from rec on a pair of francis bacons.

I’m sorry but I will never drop 900 on a pair of boots, even 900 on a pair of skis is a lot r

I don’t understand how people end up paying so much for skis. I think I’ve dropped at the most $500-$600 on skis. If you’re a smart shopper and check outlet deals, wait for sales at certain times of the year.. you’re golden. A buddy of mine just bought brand new bacons for $800+. I’m super stoked for him, but my GOSH… that’s so much cash!!

I once saw a ski bum go into a shop, flex all the skis on the wall with his hands, buy nothing, and walked out. The absolute madlad

i’ve done that before while waiting for the guy to grab stuff out of the back and ended up not buying anything ☠️

I always buy skis between May and September, gotta love that -50% season. Dropping 700-800 on park skis that are done after 1-2 seasons is just dumb

had a guy come into the shop who spoke no english and wanted me to tune a pair of 50yr old atomics. he handed them to me and was very confusing. couldn't touch the bindings but insited we tune them....all with hand motions

yeah, I kinda feel it's wasting money to buy anything ski-related full price considering how often shit goes on sale.

But I will say I've been trying to cop some wildcats for like 3 years and that shit is never ever on sale it's insane. They seem to always sell out so there's never an end of season deal on them.

So if you want something specific that's in high demand sometimes you may have no choice but to buy at msrp

I honestly kind of enjoy hunting for deals on skis. Resale value on year old stuff is not great, and I am right there to swoop in.

Damn, hahahaha I wonder who that could have been? Definitely not me hahahaha, I would never do that hahahaha, by the way do you tune skis for PBR?

My buddy who works up at Big Sky was telling me about a family who came into the rental shop. Mom and Dad were mid fight and trying to pass messages to eachother through the shop employees. At one point Mom goes "This is why you don't get married and have kids at 23!" Right in front of the kids. Pretty much a divorce in progress....

Got a pair of old Volkl Katanas with Tyrolia demo bindings from a local shop for a 6-pack of PBR. I know the owner and he was about to throw them in the dumpster haha. Terrible skis for my style but were fun enough as rock skis

I as a customer watched an old guy bring in 3 pairs of old 80's era skis, boots, and bindings into the shop who obviously refused to work on them. He tried to sell them the skis (lol). They told him to go to play it again sports next door and he might get $10 for the lot ?. Dude was pissed.

Check ebay routinely. My brother got wildcat 108`s 2yrs ago for $500 late in the season.

I do that a lot.. my mom has a doctors appointment near my favorite shop so I always come with and just chill there for an hour looking at skis and selling people on better gear lmao
