Injury Thread

I was thinking it might be a cool idea to start an injury thread, so injured NSers can have a look through for any advice, experience etc. relating to whats happened to them. If you've had a moderately serious injury, eg torn ligaments/broken joints etc, and you want to help out others going through what you've experienced, post any information you feel can contribute towards speeding up the recovery of those injured riders. Almost all of us get hurt in some way or another at some point in our skiing career, its part of our lifestyle, and we all want to get back on those planks as soon as we can when we do fall.

Don't post a novel on every detail of what happened to you, just little things like exercises doctors may not have mentioned, names of great doctors or physiotherapists or whatever that you think may be able to offer some good advice, anything you feel might be helpful.

So lets make it happen.

luckly dont have much but first time skiing sprained my ankle when i was like 3

broke my pinky 2 years ago

took a tip to my back and scraped the shit out of about 5 inches 3 inches wide of my back was pretty brutal

and of course lots n lots of bruises

i am extremely lucky and have only broken a bone on one crash, where i broke my tailbone and sprained my knee. that shit sucked. a broken tailbone is the worst injury, you cant sit or anyting and you have to sleep on your stomach, its very uncomfortable.

Super lucky as well. Only broken bone is a slightly broken wrist. Landed backseat off a jump and immediately put my hand down. I didn't even think it was broken. I was about to take another run until it really started throbbing. And some bumps and bruises here and there.

oh and theres really nothing to do with a broken tailbone except for stay off it as much as possible and a sprained knee i recommend some icy hot or tiger balm and a brace and stretches , good strecthes are hurdlers and butterfly's. also just moving it in the air helps, like using the joint moving the injured leg back and forth and then side to side really helps it out.

Lets see. I broke my left collarbone really bad this year. I snapped into 3 jagged peices all way out of place. Some how surgery wasn't nessesary, but I wore a figured 8 brace for like 2 months, it keeps your shoulders pulled back so you walk around like a soldier standing at attention. My advice on this one. well....get x rays. take it slow. give it time to heal

Broke my collar bone ridin pipe a few yrs back. Pretty simple injury, just took a few weeks to heal, with the help of vicoden.

Tore meniscus. That one sucked cuz i had a Utah trip planned. Started swelling right away and I had limited movement, but i thought i was fine. ignored it for two weeks then got it checked out. Went thru an MRI than they told me i needed surgery. surgery was two weeks later, and i was on crutches for 6 weeks then PT for another 3. then I was fine.

broke my collarbone, with a 4cm separation, so i had surgery. all i can say is WEAR YOUR SLING if this happens to you. one of the screws is starting to come out because i moved it too much. if i comes out i have to go get surgery again, and then im out for another 6-8 weeks.

i havent really had anything too bad in the pipe or tables... some of these are pretty bad, but what i got for punishment of skiing a lot of park & urban was nailing my jewels on rails about 5 times, one of which was on purpose for an end of season laugh and i was the only on that wasent laughing sadly enough...

my advice to anyone on crutches: buy a big bag of weed, your gonna need it, cause your gonna be fucking bored shitless otherwise.

DO NOT FALL off of a chairlift at 23 feet up and break both of your arms dislocate your elbow and have to have surgery on it because a peice of bone chipped off

I almost ruptured my lateral ligament but luckily "because I was young" it was only really badly stretched/ strained. Tore my miniscus and damaged something else was out for 6monthss and now whenever I stack i strain it a bit again.

Hyper extended my writs damaged the ligaments. dislocated my shoulder i think i'm pretty unlucky haha

5 shoulder dislocations

1 concussion

15 stitches to my knee

3 to my head

1 cracked ankle bone

ski smart, and if all else fails go to physical therapy.

* broken leg (snapped strait thru in boot)

* 5 broken left thums in 2 seasons

* torn nervs in neck

* perminant semi paralisation in left thum from the breaks and the fucked nervs

5 concussions

5 broken fingers

shin splints

3 broken ribs

3 broken teeth

1 tongue bit clean through

several scars from everything

1 slipped disk

~30 dislocated shoulders (tore my shoulder up so every hard landing/fall my shoulder would pop out)

2 broken phones

1 heel bone shoved through the muscle

several bloodied toes needing needles

im sure theres more but i cant think of them right now

I've also had in two years 3 hard concussions and 2mild concussion.

And am going to the doctors today to see if I have broken my other wrist.

Injuries suck, but you have to get htem checked out or they can escelate and keep you out for longer.

2 Broken ankles (7 screws and a plate)

RT ACL Tear w/ miniscus (Hamstring Graft)

1. Don't smoke weed with broken bones! nerve endings swell and is more painful then you can ever imagine! Just vicodin or OC if given to you, but be careful with OC! Very addictive!

2. RIDE YOUR BIKE EVERYDAY 5 DAYS AFTER ACL SURGERY! yOU CAN GET BACK IN 7 MONTHS AT BEST BUT PAINFUL! STRETCH EVERYDAY AND GET AND INDO BOARD, BEST REHAB EVER AND FUN BUT BE CAREFUL AT FIRST!

3. Execise and stretching is key for any injury!

i just started physical therapy for my knee...

apparently my kneecap hasn't been moving like is should, so its irratating the rest of my knee, causing pain every day.

as silly as it sounds, taping the kneecap is supposed to help as well as strengthening the quad.

and riding a bike.

i know people who can still ski thanks to riding a bike

same with my, taping helps a lot, and i have an elliptical bike. is your kneecap popping when you do your exercises?

well last summer i dislocated my shoulder, and this whole last season it was popping out like everyday

i found out that i tore my labrem, which is the tissue that holds your shoulder in your socket

I had surgery on it june 12th, so its only been a month and a half or so, but its gettin back

i prolly have about a month to 2 months till its fully healed

doing physical therapy 2-3 times a week, and its comin along

this injury sucks if anyone has had it, its like tearing your acl, but in your shoulder, it heals a little faster, but suuuucks

its different from a leg injury cuz you move your shoulder in all directions..

for the first couple weeks to first month i could barely use my arm, and its amazing how many things you do with your arm, specially if its your right arm, or your natural arm....
