Injured mid-season while not skiing

On monday I took the day off from skiing because the high was around -20 F with windchill of like -50 F and I was very bored. Some friends from my school that I don't hang out with that often invited me to play some pickup basketball at the Community Center and I thought it'd be fun because I hadn't touched a basketball in over a year. I get there and literally 5 minutes after we started playing I rolled my ankle pretty badly and ended up fracturing it. Obviously this was a huge bummer and an even bigger one because I fractured it playing basketball and not skiing. Either way injuries suck, but has this happened to anyone else before? Stories?

I searched for this in Forums but couldn't find anything..this might be a re-thread so if it is ignore it or be an asshole.

You should be glad you didn't injure it skiing. I've had a couple injuries skiing and non-skiing related and skiing related injuries suck. It sucks getting back on skis after an injury and hoping you don't do the same thing again. Vibes

I tore my ACL playing pool once (kinda the last straw for that one). That was a bummer. Tore the other one three months later skiing. Double bummer. The good thing is fractures tend to heal quick. If you didn't tear any ligaments, you could be back on snow before the season's done... And worst case scenario, you're out till November. It always could be worse..

I broke my back two weeks ago, so I'm also out for the season. Well, until summer anyway. You just gotta fill your time in other ways. I'm gonna be messing around with video a lot more and studying more and partying more too probably.

my friend came with me and my brother to winterpark this summer for downhill mountain biking, and he over shot a jump and broke his spine in 5 places. He is the best skiier i know so it was a blow to everbody, him espically. But it ended up being probably the luckiest back break ever. it crushed the vertibre but didnt move any. he just had to chill and take it easy for 3 months and he was good. He is skiing now and tearing it up. Crazy

Is this you?

Last season in about march my friends and I decided it would be fun to jump off my deck from my hot tub into about 2 feet of snow. The drop is about 20 feet and I hurt my ankle pretty badly by leaning to far forward. The cold walk back up was not fun. Luckily it went away in a few days so I could ski the rest of the season. The moral here is don't do stupid stuff during ski season its to much of a risk.

Which bones did you fracture, OP?

Last year I had an almost identical situation. Instead of playing basketball, I was running down stairs. I twisted my ankle so hard that i caused avulsion fractures in my talus and navicular bones. It really sucks missing half a season not even skiing, but as one of the above posters said, at least it won't make you scared to ski, like a skiing injury.

being injured from skiing sucks pretty bad too as I've found out in these past few days after breaking my radius and ulna

Wow we had similar injuries but mine was just an avulsion fracture in my talus. I'm stuck in an air boot for the next couple weeks before I go back and get re-assesed

i have watched this like 60 times and i still have no idea what is going on.

but seriously, injuries while skiing are worse. I tore my ACL a few weeks ago on a C-box, and i am getting surgery in may. what scares me most is coming back to skiing and just trying to get over the mental block from the injury

You'll be skiing by the end of the season. I was skiing 9 weeks post-fracture and mine was in mid February. Plus, if yours doesn't require surgery, it will heal quite nicely and you will forget about it in a year's time. My foot feels super now.

Good luck buddy
