Ingrown toenails and ski boots

Now I've had ingrown toenails for most of my life and usually they're pretty bearable, save basketball shoes and ski boots. Now last year I started skiing and was fitted too large by the boot fitter(can legit move my foot back and forth inside when buckled) so today I went to a early season expo and picked up a new pair of ski boots. They are very snug and fit we'll but my only concern is my two big toes, because of the pain in my toes along the outer edges. They hurt quite a bit when stuffed inside my boots but I definitely do not want to size up as when it packs out, I will have the same issue as my old boots. Can I fix this by just bringing the boots to the fitter and having the toe box blown out a bit?

Thanks in advance to all

Ouch! Well this isn't a easy solution but I would honestly suggest seeing how much u could get your two toes done by an orthopedic surgeon for. I had it done on one in high school when i crushed an ingrown with a kleet. It took like 10 min not even, totally worth it for a lifetime of relief. just a thought.. I would say yea probably more room in the toe box would be your best bet though.

if the liner packs out and the boot is going to fit you correctly, then you're better off doing something about your toes.

Th main 2 thing you want to ensure is that your foot is well supported so that it won't hit the front of the hell under load and Secondally that you have room in the toe box.

Do surport footbeds help both align your foot bu also make it shorter and can stop the foot sliding into the front of the boot. They help with so many things custom footbeds should be a starting point.

From there a boot fitter can asses your toe shape and ensure the boot matches. For you I t may help to square off the big toe but no stretching should be done until you get the foot stable with footbeds.

Yeah next week when the shop opens up, I'm going to be going to get footbeds, only thing is that the boots are pretty tight as it is, would footbeds make them too tight? Or would the footbeds actually help shrink my foot a bit by correctly aligning them in the boot?

They should do yes but unfortunately not all custom footbeds are made equal. Superfeet korks and the surefoot footbeds only surport the rear foot and still aloe the foot to sit in a pronated position. So for these brands you will fin an inprovent over te stock insole but you could be idiot from more surport.

The sidas and boot dr footbeds realign the foot and can very effectively make the foot shorter an also narrower. For your issue these are the only type of footbeds which will be worth getting.

When you go have tem made make sure to take your boots as the shell will need to be reassessed after the foot is aligned.

Honestly man try to fix your feet. I don't know how bad you have it but what I do is cut a "V" into the big toenail and that encourages it to grow inward instead of outward. And then just take the cotton off the end of q tips and shove it under the ends of your toenails with some neosporin on it to train them to go upward. Its easier if you soak them in hot water first
