Infographics for Skiing Trends

I'm a Graphic Design major, and we have an Infographic project we were assigned. I would love to create infographic posters on park skiing. But I am stuck on how to go about this. My teacher wants the infographic poster to have a social message in it. It can't be just purely educational as much as I'd love it to be.

I was thinking of creating an infographic poster about the style trends of skiing. I would be looking at the change of gear and attire from the sport's birth to the thug-baggy trend and now what appears to be a fitted and Hesh trend popping up. My only concern with this is how can I give this educational-seeming topic a "social message" twist so my teacher likes it. I was thinking along the lines "here's the history, decide what you like, and do it and have fun." It kinda banks off of the lack of knowledge that new park skiers have about the sport's history and the bickering of which attire style is better.

Other ideas for the infographic poster can be about:

-increased gear prices over time.

-quality of products (might go with gear price)

-Professional Level entry and the difficulties

-style of skiing(tricks and style)[might go with style of attire]

So I just want to hear your guys' voice in this. Please critique any of my ideas constructively. Or suggest other ideas that might have a more easily relatable message.

Hopefully if my teacher approves my topic and feels it fulfills her "Social Message" requirement and has enough substance to create 3 infographic poster for this entire project, I will post them on Newschoolers for you guys. And if it is approved I will definitely be posting Polls and getting your guys' opinions on trends.

Thanks Guys!

Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss this in depth.

I like the first idea, it's a broad topic and you could defiantly throw in a a social message regarding all of the fighting over style.

You see the threads almost daily asking what happened to gangster style?, is it dead?, who else misses it? And on these threads you find all kinds of people arguing pointlessly over which style is best instead of being minding their own business and just using whichever style they like best.

You could do something about the broader social message of camaraderie in the freestyle community. or something about being polite and not snaking every single feature. how to be a socially aware park rat or something like that

I'm assuming that you need sources for the data that goes into your infographic. This is a problem since it would be nearly impossible to get actual data on just about anything for this sport. Anything about quality or difficulty or style and so on would just be complete hearsay with no real source to back it up. Ski companies might have price data for all their years of skis, but that's about the best you're going to get.

My suggestion: pick an easier topic. Plus if you do do something about this sport you will 100% have people saying you got stuff wrong once it's done.

I just talked with my teacher and she understands the lack of numerical data. But she believes I can do just fine with data pertaining to definitions, timelines, and surveys. After talking with another professor developing good survey questions, I'm going to PM Mr. Bishop about seeing if he can publicize a survey for me on NS. And hey I might try to contact some pros. But first things first.

There is definitely numerical data on industry growth through SIA. It might be interesting to contrast growth in skiing with recent climate trends (decline of snowfall), which of course there is plenty of data on. I think a social message about our collective actions as skiers and the effects those actions have on the environment can stem naturally from that. Watch "All I Can" for inspiration.

I think the Environment issue especially concerning Mt. Hood and other mountains out West is a killer Idea. I am going to go more about "learn what you like (style), then go have fun! (don't judge others)" But thanks for the input! +k
