Indoor Facility Question

If there was an indoor snow-flex jump with a foam pit would you use it? How much? Would you be willing to pay 25$ for a 2 hour session?

If there was trampolines would you use them before or after the jump to learn new maneuvers?

I heard about a company trying to put something in locally..

Rumors are BS unless you name names. However that being said i would easily pay that amount for 2 hours. I would say practice on tramps before- while learning a trick/ tramp into a foam. Would be amazing to see something like that in Toronto or region surrounding, but i think its a long shot to see an indoor jump, but enough with the pessimism, i hope this happens.

Well I guess it's a little more than a rumor, they are already doing a massive indoor skate and trampoline setup.. but are looking into the demand for an indoor snow-flex jump and rail line..
My friend is working on the project so I'm trying to prove there is the demand in the GTA with the ski industry.
They have the money, just seeing if its financially worth it.

that would be illin. not too far for people living living in the GTA. it would suck balls if they put it up in Collingwood or Barrie

were really not the demographic they should be considering for building this. i bet you a million snowboarders would be down.

well as a skier I'm trying to push the ski market towards the company.
they'd have a rail line and quarter similar to woodward based on the snowflex designs already available.
I think it would be super sick for training etc.. they'd have an online booking engine so you can login, book a time for you and your buddies and your the only ones allowed on it. It would be a max cap of 10 or 20 so its not a waiting in line waste of time kind of deal.
they already have a special conference room setup for skate where you can go chill after a review the footage from the cameras etc and they would do the same for ski.

if this is sean rowe GTFO

interesting. here's the big question for you:

who's backing this corporately?

i'm not going to beat around the bush here. this will be an expensive venture. simply to construct a facility your friends better be stocked up with at least half a million dollars. after which, they'll have to buy insurance. ask any action sports facility in Canada what their insurance rates are. next you'll be looking at land opportunities. now, you're saying between brampton and orangeville. to me this means the caledon area and that my friend isn't cheap at all.

you talked about user fees and number of users at a time. you said 10-20 users i'm guessing per session. how long is each session and how much are you going to charge per session? so let's call a session 2 hours long; at $25 per session with 15 people per session you're looking at a gross profit of roughly $375 per session and 8 hours in a day, so $1500 gross. next you need to look at user frequency, coaches, medical staff, etc...

what this boils down to, is that unless your friends are looking to invest upwards of possibly a million dollars or more in initial start up capital, this thing won't happen because let's face it, no bank is going to issue a loan based on their business plan. without a name like Woodward backing this thing i wouldn't hold you breath people.

Woodward became successful with their business by designing a sick skate park and made it a destination camp for skateboarders and bmx riders. from there they increased to accomodate skiing, snowboarding, inline, mountain biking, gymnastics, tumbling and cheerleading. they've been around for over 36 years and have it down to a "T".

the closest southern ontario has ever come to having a facility like this was when the new owner of talisman pledged to build a water ramp/trampoline centre in the collingwood area in conjunction with FSO and Gymnastics Ontario. unfortunately a lot of us know how this went.

call me a downer folks but this is reality. if this somehow happens, i'll be the first to admit i was wrong.

land, facility construction, coaches, insurance, etc... you can't expect to start a venture like this without massive start-up costs or a decent bank loan. maybe we should add promotion/advertising because let's face it, NS doesn't let you advertise for free and other forms of print media aren't cheap.

what if you there is already a bulding , and what if you dont use coachs and you just ride , thats already a decent amount of money cut

I guess you have never taken a business course before...

Already a building.. someone has to buy one or rent one out, then you got all your overhead bud.

Sick idea.

These guys should contract the Polson pier guys for info on the differences between estimated usage and real world usage in this region for this industry. I'm sure the Polson guys would have some great insight towards running a business like this.

Those are great ideas, I'll pass them on..
They already have a building since there is indoor skate which is nice helper in terms of funds, they would just have to re-apply to increase bank loans.
Not impossible but at the same time not an easy task. Business plans, market data, planning, engineering, materials etc.
Appreciate the positive and constructive comments though.

as was already said, you need to buy/rent a building. without coaches you run the risk of an empty building during the day. summer camps/lessons would be the biggest draw for something like this during the week. especially when it's too far away from the majority of the target consumer to simply use public transit to get there.

don't talk about ways to cut costs unless you know anything about business.

congratulations on being the biggest pessimist the world has ever know
like man, all were looking for is a little hope to ski in the summer so that we can get through to the winter

I do believe the thread was asking "what price you would pay for a session?".

I don't think it said "please poke holes in an idea that you have no knowledge of"

this thread does ask if you would be willing to pay $25 for a session...and i think this gentleman does have knowledge of the industry...he has some great points....steevner...you need to come up with something constructive...it would be great to get all of the freestyle teams in Ontario to train at this facility.....i know this would not offset the cost by any means...but hopefully a start...would love to make something like this happen...maybe have some sort of hybrid camps involving biking, skating, skiing, snowboarding, inline.....

well kid i do have a pretty good idea about business and the model presented here is not sustainable. the premise of "if you build it they will come" does not fly well with financial institutions when it comes to applying for loans.

believe me, i have knowledge about everything i've said.

He didn't ask for business advice.

Although there are some valid points here, they really weren't asked for.

There, he said they've got the money.

Now, for some ideas that will increase interest/demand for the facility::

- as said above, run weekly camps. Getting repeat customers would be great.

- Start up a facebook page, put ads up on kijiji, and see if you can get a story about it published in local newspapers

- Make it skier and snowboarder friendly

- Advertise it more as an experience than just a fake-snow jump. Promote the atmosphere of the complex a lot.

- Good video reviews are a must. Maybe a few angles? One camera covering the takeoff, and another the air/landing.

- Get a solid waiver set up. Maybe give the burlington boys gym (burlington bg's) a call. Because they run a weekly open-gym session that anyone can come to. They could probably give you some advice.

- Maybe look into the airbag landing?

appreciate all the positive feedback and constructive criticisms.
Things are looking good! I'll keep everyone updated as I hear the news.. They are in talks with snowflex right now.
Would people enjoy a nice rail line with a wall ride at the end also? It would also be 20$ to session for X amount of time and would have 2 features with wallride/barrels at the bottom.. Would have a bunch of interchangeable features such as dfds, flat downs, rollercoasters, boxes and general rails...
If they do this, they are implementing a max cap per session.. that way there wouldn't be more than 10 people at a session so its not too busy and you get your money worth.. They will have an online schedule system so you can pre-book your times so you don't drive x amount of time for nothing..
