Indoor dry-ski park near Toronto, ON

I'm creating a business plan for an indoor ski facility new Toronto, ON. It wold be similar to Woodward's (http://www.coloradoskiauthority.com/copper-mountain/woodward/#http://www.coloradoskiauthority.com/images/copper-mountain/woodward/jumps.jpg).

Really just just looking for general opinion about this right now, anything would be great.

amazing idea, needs to be done.

theres a lot of talent in ontario and not much skiing oriented things to do on the long off season so i feel like it could go well.
 
well i sesh up Woodward all the time and i think its all perfect the lay out and everything just Woodward prices are outrages

 
If you think that is expensive try building a whole indoor facilty w/ dry slope and everything....
 
Canada=/= mountains.BC, Alberta and Quebec all have great mountains.

Ontario not so much (or at all), as our highest vert is no more than 300m. I think the biggest being calabogie or blue mountain and even blue is only 220 (720 ft).

as for a dry slope sounds pretty damn cool, I'd definitely check it out and depending on where it would be it would probably be worthwhile on op's end.
 
do it! people in toronto would deff go during the week during winter as its not worth it to drive up to Barrie after school for night skiing.
 
We've been talking about picking up some warehouse space out here in Pittsburgh and turning it into a summer training park. I think anywhere that has a decent enough sized market of skiers will have fun with it.
 
You would have an amazing market building this in the GTA. So many skiers looking for something to do over the long off season.
 
I'm moving to Peterborough in the fall (right by TO) if you were to put that up, depending on your prices I could definitely hook you up with atleast 10 people. I'd be so down to ride that. Keep us in the loop!
 
oh my god please. huge market for this shit in the GTA and i would hit it up everyday when I am at my parent's. as long as it is actually in the GTA not way outside. if it had tramps, foam pits, and rails you would have a huuge customer base
 
is this actually a possible plan that you intend on following up on or just saying "hey i have no idea about any of the costs that go in to doing this, should i do it?"

I don't know what the costs are yet, that's why I'm formulating a business plan. First step is finding the needs, talking to customers (you), then finding out what it will cost in the next couple months.

A few more questions for thought:

If you could have 3 features of any kind (remember indoor space), what would they be?

What do you think would be a fair price for a "day pass"?

You should make it built into a hill?

this is my local hill, they charge about $18 for 4 hours.

also if you built it like this you'd be able to change feautures really easily and have a really creative park setup.
 
A day pass, I would pay anywhere between 30-40 bucks depending on the quality of the place. Ever heard of Snowgression in Utah? I believe it's in Ogden, Google some pictures and videos, could give you lots of ideas.

I mean, it being a skiing only place would be cool, but ECONOMICALLY, marketing towards snowboarders as well could be an excellent choice, the GTA is full of them.

Three features:

Mellow DFD Flatbar

A T-Box, maybe about a foot wide.

A flat rail, Shoutgun/Double-Barreled.

Both of the rails about 16 feet long? Anything shorter than that sucks and is too short to do anything on.
 
Very cool, I've never seen this. Unfortunately, acquiring a hill like this close to Toronto would be difficult and extremely expensive. Thanks for the thought though.

Here's what I was talking about. The handle tow in would be perfect for the space that you are talking about, make something like that happen, or even make it better!
 
this sort of hill's pretty common in the UK. I have about 5 within an hours drive.

The material used is dendix which is slower, so probably want to use snowflex (the one with no gaps) because it runs faster IMO.

and for the price I'd pay maybe $30-$40 for a few hours depending on how good the setup is and how busy it would get.

 
a big fat tube

a flat, down flat down rail, 2" wide. not fdfd, like a flat rail that's dfd

and a smaller version of the gatorade thing at windells

LOL, fitting one of those Gatorade rails in an indoor space, AND expecting enough speed to hit it is soooo unrealistic. As much as I love those huge round tubes as well, they are hard to acquire and are ridiculously heavy, they require cat's to move. The rails in this indoor space would have to all be moved by hand, cutting out many options.
 
Hell man, I live in halifax and I'd probably consider making a trip in the summer and stay with my family there. If i lived in toronto i would definatley go. I think you have the potential to do very well with this.
 
smaller version! i was thinking something triangular like that that can be easily trannied. it doesn't even need to go up, just a prism with box material on the sides. 1-2 feet tall

 
Look at the last video I posted, we're looking at something more like that rather than an actual indoor slope if that makes sense, more like a place with one feature that can be interchangeable. As much as I would love to find some tranny, it's not practical for a situation such as this.
 
It would be awesome, but it would probably fail no matter how much people would want to see it survive. I mean what happened to the one in Niagara?
 
Niagara isn't really a hub for skiing, know what I mean? Toronto would be a much better place to put one, there is an abundance of skiers and snowboarders amongst the population of the largest city in Canada.
 
BEST IDEA EVER. toronto needs something like this, all we have right now is a couple tramp gyms but a whole facility with foam pits and dryslopes would be SIICK, i would use it all the time

but you might want to look into the costs of purchasing/renting/leasing a warehouse property big enough to support this idea within the GTA.

and if youre comfortable with that price.

maybe look into how much square footage of snowflex you would need and the costs of that.

and if youre comfortable with that price.

phone an insurance company and inquire about insurance rates for such an operation.

and if youre comfortable with that price, give me some fuckin money. cause obviously you have too much of it to begin with.

you are going to be hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions in the hole before you even open the front doors to a place like this.

i must stress, im not being a dick here, i think youre just putting the wagon before the horse. talking about features and ticket pricing when you havnt even looked into the costs of a location yet.

not trying to be a debby downer on you, cause it is a great idea. BUT, i can guarantee someone within the GTA has had this idea before you have, AND the reason why it does not exist, isnt because there is not a market, but because it costs too damn much.

If youre trying to put together a business model, then focus on business. Not talking about how awesome it would be if it had this and this and this, and costs this much to ride there for a day.

AGAIN, i am not being a dick. just trying to steer you in the right direction here.
