just curious, does anyone listen to indie-pop, indie-rock, or just indie in general, and if so which artists

 
they talk about it all the time on the radio, im sure i hear it all the time yet i dont know who classifys as indie (sp?). Somebody wanna explain?

first of all, indie is awesome. but it's mostly just artists who are just making music and don't really care about money and shit, and it's underground. Most of if it is mellow, some is experimental, but not all of it is the same.

^sort of.But indie bands are still engaged with some other 'indie labels',which would basically mean that these labels are independent from multinational labels.Right?

no independent means independent label. arista: enormous coporation. subpop: probably the quintessential indie label.

^those are all new indie bands (most of them), old shit like the pixies, built to spill and sonic youth all kick ass. oh and indie isn't just on independent labels - the strokes are indie but they have albums on both rca and bmg who are monster profit corps.

the strokes are not indie anymore.In fact,for me,they only were when i listened to them like2 years ago.But now...they are still great,but not indie anymore.Call me fool,shame on me!but i just don't think they have quite the indie spirit.

well naturally, seattle just gets the job done. its how we do it. frasier should rep our music scene more. if you live in seattle and you want to garuntee yourself amazing indie, then go to sonic boom. i go to the one on 15th, look it up in the phone book if you want.

there's a festival every year in benicassim(Spain)that lasts three days and there plenty of indie bands going(including postal Service).It's gonna be the shiiiattt!

but thats just when indie became a term that had meaning. bands like yo la tengo were doing their thing in the 80's. indie goes back.

yeah as for the strokes. they may be mtvized (well actually they changed mtv, so did the white stripes), and very well known, but they still embody the style of indie - regardless as to how many albums they sell.

yeah, there was just this huge thing down in austin, tx (which has a disgusting scene) called south by southwest. its a festival, but its also like the indie version of a trade show. ridiculous amounts of bands show up and show what they got.

but also Destroyer, pretty girls make graves, Mars Volta, My bloody valentine is pretty good. what i have heard by placebo is really good. Rilo Kiley and you guys should check out Ranier Maria I think is their name, there definetly very good.

indie used to mean independant label, but now is just like guitar flavoured music you arnt allowed to dance or smile whilst listening. not that it's bad
