Im going to IU in 2 weeks and im hoping some of you nsers go there. im pretty bummed i cant be out in colorado for school so i have to make the best of flat indiana.. anyone from the area or go to school there i can ride with once the white stuff falls?

Hey man I'm going up to Purdue which isn't too far I don't think, I'm not to great at geography. But I'm always looking for people to ride with, and once I scope out all the rails in W. Lafayette I'll be hitting some urbans for sure. And more than likely I'll go to IU for rails cuz they have some amazing looking handrails.

I'm actually leaving for Purdue this saturday. And if you even feel like gettin the hell outta bloomington for a while, there's always a futon in my dorm thats open to any newschooler!

if you get lucky the peaks wont have a shitty season and thats only like 45 mins from btown otherwise you gotta come to perfects and thats a lot farther

yeah im def looking forward to hitting bloomingtons rails. there are some crazy ass jibs. i just hope enough snow will fall to hit them. im gonna have my truck at school so going to ride shouldnt be to bad. I heard paoli has some sick features, but heard better things about perfect. how was their park this year?

Perfect's park is always bomb. Its the best place around for snow and the atmosphere is amazing. Definitely the best skiing in Indiana.

In my three years at IU, it snowed hard enough to have enough snow for some of the rails maybe twice. And on top of that, half of the really good jibs are right in the middle of campus asking to be busted. But, I think that a lot of them are definitely doable, and I'd love to see them done because I always wanted to do them.

Extra props if you get the nasty double kink right by the auditorium.

yeah man there are some sick rails that i definitly wanna hit. are you still at IU? are there any other core riders down there?

I transfered this year, but my best advice for finding other riders is to go to the Rec sports day in the next couple weeks and join the Ski and Snowboard club. They always do a winter break and spring break trip (last year they went to winter park/somewhere in switzerland), have rail jams and shit, and there are always people going to Paoli throughout the season. Lots of cool people in the club.

Don't know a whole lot about B-Town, but up at Purdue, my buddies and I would always set up little jibs and kickers on the golf course and just rock that until we went out west on winter break. Park at Perfects is pretty nice but its pretty crowded too and the lift that feeds it feeds the bunny hill so getting up the park is always a pain. Best advice is join the Ski Club and scope the golf course and stuff.

My buddy who goes to IU said that theres an old shut down ski hill around Bloomington that a lot of IUers would hit when the snow would drop. I think its called Nashville Alps or something. The lifts aren't in service, but I'm all about earning turns with a hike.

The place you are talking about is Ski World. It's probably half an hour or so outside of Bloomington. It's been shut down for a pretty long time, but I haven't ever heard of anyone going out there and skiing on it when it snows. They do a bunch of hill climbs and stuff there now, and theres a "Country Music Church" there as well. The lift towers are still there, and some of the snow gun poles, but none of it works.

And to the guy saying getting to the park at Perfects is a pain, well, that's part of skiing. It's only ever crowded on the weekends and holidays, any other time and there is rarely a line. You can turn out laps pretty quickly.

who would drive from B-Town to Perfects during the week? Ever heard of class? Best advice, scope the rails around Bloomington, join the Ski Club, and find some guys to make weekend runs up to Boyne or somewhere with some decent vertical.

I had 3 semesters where I had certain days with 0 classes. And fuck driving all the way to Boyne, I'd rather go to perfects and save money.

I think a few weekend runs driving to somewhere with decent vertical and real snow with mixed urban during the week is going to be cheaper and more fulfilling in the long run than making weekly runs to Perfects.

If you want to simulate Perfects, you could always buy a bunch of snowcones and dump them down the biggest hill in Bloomington. That would emulate both the vertical and average snow conditions at Perfects minus the few hundred townies in jeans and carhart gear throwing down yard sales every 50 feet.

Damn you really have a negative view on Perfect's don't you. Its cool man, everyone has their opinion. But I'm sure there's plenty of people who'd love to show you the real Perfect's and just how cool of a vibe it has.

If you ever can make it down there during December come up to the loft shop on a weekday and I'll go introduce you to the real Perfects.

It's one of my favorite places in the world for so many reasons.

do they carry decent gear at the shop at perfects? I've never been, I typically buy my gear in Indy at Rusted Moon or up in Michigan. What brands do they carry at Perfects, if any?

We carry a wide variety of gear to suit every skier's needs on our hill. We carry almost every major brand in the industry in hardgoods and softgoods. We also make it a main priority to research up and coming companies and bring them into the shop to continue to support every level of business in the ski industry.

A pic of some piles of snow the "townies" shoveled up to keep the city folk out

perfects is sick- you should ski there before you comment on it

I have skied there a few times actually and the terrain isnt bad except the last table is too close to the lodge/lift line and the park lift feeds the bunny hill as well. Rail set up is pretty good, with the exception of the narrow staircase at the top of the run furthest from the lift. If you cut out the first table on the left side (closest to the lift) and moved the 2nd and third further up the run and added a dedicated T-Bar to the park only, it'd be a fun place to ride.

Unfortunately, for those of us that have jobs or school (or both), its not realistic to ride in the middle of the week, and on weekends every douchebag from IN, KY, and OH decides to show up and lift lines are longer then they are out west. For locals who can ride at noon on a Tuesday or get to the hill quickly when it starts snowing, Perfects is probably a pretty good place to ride, but for the rest of us, I'd rather make a summer jib out of golf mats in my back yard than ride Perfects on a weekend.

if u are at purdue or iu and perfect doesnt have a decent amount of snow than u could always go north of the border to southern mich. and hit up swiss valley or bittersweet or timber ridge.... it take about 1 1/5 to 2 hours to get there from my house which is a good 40 minutes north of purdue

If your new to the midwest for college which you could be cause there are some pretty decent colleges around, Purdue, IU, UC..... your best bet if your free on weekends is deffenitly Perfect North. Sure it might not have the vertical of some places in Michigan but what it does have is one of the sickest parks in the widwest. Not only is the park sick but it also has one of the best if not the best vibe anywhere around. Trust me many great skiers have come out of Perfects and went out west. All of them have always said how great Perfects is to ride because of the people that ride there. You will always have someone to ride with trust me on that.

I'm not on the ski team but I'm on the ski club if that's what you mean. Do you go to purdue, if so you'll be the first newschooler I will have met since I've been here. Drop me a Pm. I'm most definitely going to the Telluride trip.

The 08/09 PURDUE ski club is going to be sick, i would suggest everyone get down with the club, its like 25 bucks to join and once a month you get to eat and drink at JAKE'S for free, free H-sweatshirt, and supposedly are having a RED BULL? Rail jam, but mostly getting to hang out with everyone into skiing and snowboarding, if anyone needs info just let me know, and if anyone on here does go to Purdue let me know also its always fun partying with people who share similar interests...just lemme know

ill get down with the skiing on campus when the white drops

and right now if anyone wants to slackline let me know also...haha

Hey do you happen to know when the next meeting is? I went to the callout but haven't heard anything new when we should pay dues and everything.

Im not sure when the next meeting is, they have a site thats pretty nice, forgot the addy though... Just go to their facebook group theres all the stuff you need to know right there, we may want to get this out of the IU thread though...start up a Purdue one....

Jordan

haha.... tho seriously E'twan is the balliest balla there is on any campus in Indiana and im willing to put my money on any ontha campus in the universe...... that reminds me who does IU have that is even going to be remotly good at bball???? cause to my knowlege they have no one and purdue will absolutly rape them!!!!!!!

man i cant wait for NOVEMBER!!!!!!

BOILER UP!!!!!!! bitch!!!!!! haha

how fast did it take kelvin sampson to demolish the respect the nation had for IU?????

the new coach isnt it tom crean???? crean doesnt have that sound about in is name that ole BOBBY KNIGHT had.......

it would be great to see another knight vr. keady era start-up with painter vr crean (or who ever else takes pitty for the once great tradition of IU bball) haha

There will never be another Bob Knight at IU. Tom Crean is a hell of a coach and he's already done a ton of things to help rebuild what Sampson did a pretty good job of fucking up. Give him a couple years and we'll be right back where we were.

is paoli peaks not even worth it. its only like an hour away from IU, which would be more possible during the week. also are any of you going to IU or are you guys all at purdue.

haha.....oh shit way to bring up purdue football..... ill admit it i hope curtis painter dies.... not really but...... hey goin in to double OT with Orgeon is sayin a lot about how lucky purdue is...... i hope they still arnt feelin sorry for them selves this week cause im goin to the central mich. game saturday and i want it to b a good contest... how about another 80 yard run by korry sheets.....

IU football isn't all that great, I won't lie.

And yea, Paoli's not to bad. It's about a 45 minute drive from Bloomington and they usually have a decent park if they actually build it. Good place to go on off days or something.
