Im pretty sure its illegal if you dont affiliate your teaching with the resort. The law is bullshit though because 3/4 of the money you make goes to the resorts.
i think it's illegal but this winter i was working on powderhorn near grand junction and i didn't had certification and they were really cool about that so i think you can get a ski instructor job in some places
I've already ski instructed, I just wanted to find out if there was an actual law in place that prevents an independent ski school from operating at any resort so long as they have the proper insurance and certification
this probably doesent help but i work at one and we go in mass and Vermont with no problems. I think at Jackson Hole they have a rule like this, but it might only be if you work at the resort.
fyi, I finally found out that it is illegal and Vail bans you from resort property if they find you teaching. They have a Special Use Permit (i.e. a lease) from the US Forest Service.
