You ban this shit, why? You were already making us pay extra to put our oversized baggadge on, cant you see you will make profit out of this?

Heres a little story for you quickly.

I was sitting in an Emirates plane at heathrow waiting for pushback just staring out the window at some guy unloading the luggadge from a recent arrive, a BA 747(BA have recently banned all surfboard and skis etc). Now i see they loader is picking a surfboard out of the hold and i just curiously watch him do it, now whoever owns this board has just come from his awsome surfing holiday and paid extra to put his pride and joy on this flight with him, the loader just chucks the board out and it smacks the tarmac, thats like throwing your board five storys, it was in a board bag but it wont protect it, i felt real sorry for this guy and wanted to shoot the loader.

Sorry for the rant but it annoys me

Heres a helpful list of airlines that are good for boards and skis etc, and the bad.

The Good-

(Generally allow skis and boards for free)

Singapore Airlines

South African Airlines

Air New Zealand

Qantas

Emirates

The Bad-

(Expesive)

American-$100 per oversized baggadge

Air France-$150+ per Oversized Baggadge

Lufthansa-$100-$200 per oversized baggadge

The Demonic

(Wont take the ATALL)

British Airways- Never EVER going to take it again

Tell your storys of damadge or what you think of this.

Damn that sucks. Shouldnt they have told it to the guy in the check-in counter? And to me, like most of NS, the whole fucking thing is retarded.

i wrap my board in cardboard and bubble wrap but my tail go fucking smashed to pieces. had to bring it to a shop while i was out in cali

Delta is charging $300 international for board bags now.

Surfboards have (usually) and will always cost extra because they have a much higher chance of damage compared to ski or golf bags. It is relatively easy to damage a board unless you have a hard coffin case. The airlines had to pay out on a lot of damage claims. I know people who have a gotten close to grand for them fucking up 3 boards. The boards were repaired for under a hundred bucks and he got to keep the rest. So reasons like that add to it. Also surfers are usually paying lower airfares as opposed to golfers and skiers who are more likely to be pay higher fares or be on business and pay full price at the last minute.

I don't even know why this concerns you though, SKIDUBAIGUY, since you are gaper on the mountain and kook in the water.

NWA is now charging for 1 checked bag, skis are extra. I think most of them are doing that now. The last time I flew was a week ago and it was right before they started charging for one checked bag.

You aren't good. You may be better than your fellow UAE brethren, but you aren't.

And find some actual waves if you are going to shoot video, slapping at waist high slop doesn't show anything.

Haha, you will find slapping waist high slop is a skill every good surfer needs, most competitions these days are held in small waves. And i can charge big waves, ive surfed all over the world, from worldclass waves in Australia to granite reefs in cornwall and big waves in south africa and the maldives.

i thought that surfing was pretty good

come on, he said the waves weren't big that day

just believe him, you don't need to stir up hate for nothing

No it's not, not every surfer is contest surfer. Most real surfers despise it, it is a different view than skiing.

Just because you have surfed all over the world doesn't mean that you are good. It means that you have money, you live in fucking Dubai, its living cost are expensive as shit. I can only assume your dad is pulling it in from being a petroleum engineer or is in wealth management.

wow this thread makes me so sad to think i'll never wanna go on another plane oriented travel vacation with my skis. i always thought that was the travel industries largest appeal, the fact that i could take my skis, golf clubs, etc. man thats a real tanker.

I wrap my skis in my sleeping bag, then put that in my ski bag. It worked for me last time, but I'd be so pissed if the airlines fucked up my skis..

bikes and skis. when the loader just throws them out onto the little thing at the end, it pisses me off. and when they take 2+ hours to get there.

You're right about that, but a lot of US airlines have been failing for decades. There are profitable airlines though, such as Southwest and the airlines listed that are ski friendly (mostly foreign).

Airlines that are failing are doing so because their operations are poor. Southwest runs only 737s and calculates the exact amount of time the plane exists at each stage (e.g. on tarmac, waiting to load, refueling time, etc.). While a United flight may sit for an hour to be cleaned, inspected, and loaded, Southwest has it down to 15-20 minutes.
