In need of some help...

Hey NS,

So I've had 2 terrific days of skiing this weekend and and today I came home ready to sleep. Well when I finally got my ass into bed after finishing all the stuff my mom needed me to do, I fell asleep instantly. Since then, I must have woken up like 10 times because I am having nightmares of the worst absolute situations I can imagine in my life (I'm not even sure if I can call them that because I feel like I'm not completely asleep). Last night was the same deal. Prior to yesterday, I hadn't had a nightmare in so long... And now they won't stop and seem so realistic. I've tried smoking blunts... it didn't help. I took a few walks... it didn't help. Anyone have things they do to prevent/stop nightmares when they keep popping into your head?

Thanks guys.

Don't be hateful.

practice lucid dreaming techniques and you can turn nightmares into good dreams. I havent had a nightmare in a very very long time up until a few weeks ago, just the one, and nothing since. and last night i dreamt all night long about skiing. fucking best ever. and weed disrupts sleep cycles, so dont smoke before bed

I always find that just watching something relaxing and calm before I go to bed usually has me in a good mindset. Typically TV shows like Friends or The Office do the trick for me.

I fucking hate vivid nightmares...I have recurring nightmares a lot. I just try to go to sleep thinking of something really happy...usually works for me. are you on any medications? a lot of times meds can make you have bad dreams..

No, no meds. Trust me, I tried it. When I thought of skiing, in my nightmare I ended up crashing and waking up in a hospital with news that my best friend died in almost the same crash I went through.

Thanks though :)

Sorry for dub post.

I tried it. I watched an episode of Weeds and an episode of the Office... needless to say it didn't work :(

Ahh, what is wrong with meeee?

There is some weird sonar app for ipods/iphones that will put you right out. it uses different frequencies to try and relax your mind and put you at ease. worked for me and I was out in like 5 min.

Two options that have always really helped me.
A) stay awake until you're about to pass out, then go to bed then. You'll go to bed as soon as your head hits the pillow
B) Redraw your dreams. This may sound like hippie garbage, but you are in control in your head. You can change what is going on. There is a man with a knife, well replace him with cake, can be stupid, but you get my point. Understand what is going on, and then let it go.
Deep breathing and ambient music also help, if you focus strongly on one or the other, your mind won't wander to nightmares.

Read some Calvin and Hobbes. Always cheers me up, or takes my mind of things when I can't sleep. Maybe it'll help with your nightmares. Good luck!

Thanks guys :)

Karma to you all. It feels like I tried everything, but I'm sure it will go away eventually. In the mean time, I'll just do some NS'n and watch funny videos.

I'm in a similar situation, but I've been having sleep paralysis. Basically your body wakes up before your REM cycle's complete, so you know you're awake and all your surroundings are familiar but your brain is still in dream mode so you can't move and experience fucking gnarly hallucinations. It's one of the most horrifying experiences I've had, apparently it's one of the theories behind what caused all those girls to accuse women of witchcraft during the Salem witch trials.

fixes everything!

learn how to lucid dream though, my buddy can do it he's come up with some crazy stuff

if you have a tv in your room, leave it on. The dialogue/music will incorporate itself into your dreaming.

I used to smoke a bowl and listen to howard stern while sleeping in and i would have the most awsome dreams.

Or if you dont have a tv, then make a playlist of ski movie music etc

Any kind of noises that conjur up good, warm, safe feelings will be a help.

im in a class and we were talking about freudian dream analysis, and i really wanted to try it so you should write down all about your dream and i can analyze it with your help, although i am in no way classified to do it

I brought up guilt because of your dream where your friend got hurt in the same accident as you. Analyze your dreams, because something is obviously tormenting your subconscious. Are your nightmares recurring or are they different every time?

whenever i have a flu, i always have the same dreams. they aren't scary or anything, they just suck, so i just grab a magazine for a book and just read till i pass out, hope that helps
