i'm 6'2, and 190 lbs. i ski at vail year round, i ski mostly at the resort, but often i ski mushroom bowl, the chutes and at vail pass, i am looking at four skis for next season and was wondering if anyone could tell me what size and ski would suit me best

thx

How do you like to ski?

Do you charge lines really hard and fast, do you jib around and play off of natural features?

What sort of flex do you like in a ski, soft, stiff, medium?

The gotama has proven itself already, and simply kicks ass everywhere and shreds... I'd recommend it, but I haven't skied any of your other suggestions.

i like to ski big lines fast when i can but there arent a too of wide open areas where i ski, i like to butter around and do small spins, but really im a cliff/pillow guy and i ski trees alot too

i like medium flex, i had line motherships this season, and the were so flexy they stared to get reverse camber in the back and near the end of the season they started delaminating, so im looking for a more durable ski that i can use for a couple of yrs

any of them except jp julien will work fine. jj's are nice but lack the existance of a turn radius, so trees are probably not as much fun. any of the other three you'll be fine with, i myself am torn between the gotama and vct in the longest lengths. i dunno if scott makes a p4 longer than 181, i think so but i'm not sure.

Gonna have to agree here, the JPs will kill it anywhere there is fresh (or semi-fresh) snow on the ground. They are also pretty buttery/jibby feeling because they are so ridiculously light, and because of the large radius they don't hook up when going fast. Definitely a sick ski.

bottom line, i think they are all great appropriate skis you have narrowed down to there, i'd personally be leaning towards a gotama, more personal preference though.. i really like the flex pattern and the way it skis - durability can't be beat either

does anyone have any ideas on what sizes i should get, im a fairly agressive skier so i was thinking around 188, but i like longer skis

All the other skis you meantioned are a much more versitile ski than the jp. Honestly, you can't go wrong with the p4, the gotama, or the vct. I heart my p4s. At 108 underfoot they are the widest ski of the bunch, but you can still rail the fuck out of groomers. Nice, soft, poppy tail, stiffer tip for getting through muck. Any of these can be ur 1 ski quiver, except I don't feel that way about the JP. Its more specialized. Would make a great touring ski tho.

ok now im looking at the p4, gotamas and vct's but i dunno what size to get, the p4 comes in 181 and 191, the gots come in 183 and 190 and the vcts largest size is 182

i would say you probably need the longest length of any ski you're mentioning if you ski hard at all, i'm a tad smaller than you and that's the length i'm going for, and i don't ski extremely hard most times.

vct comes in a 189 next season to make your decision harder. it will be 108 at the waist with a similar turn radius to gotama (i think). and the 4frnt EHP 190 from this season has the same dimensions as the other vct's (104 waist) but is a bit stiffer (according to 4frnt guy in another thread). there's a pair on sale on ebay right now for like $450, good luck finding them much cheaper atm.

maidens are a bit softer than the others.

just do what i'm doing, keep your options open and wait til a good deal comes along.

....but what do i know? apparently jj's are the hot new tree ski. i'll probably stick to my lizzies.

True that the JP is a more specilized ski than the others you're considering, but it's very good at what it does.

But why not consider the ANT as well?

I would also look into the Prophet 100 in a 186 and the Made'n/AK Enemy in a 189, but they are a bit softer than the P4, ANT, Goats, and VCT.

Just to help you out, here are a couple links to skis for sale...

for what you described and your size, check out the ants. i have a pair and i love them. they are dope for charging, and they're surprisingly maneuverable in tight situations. they also ski great on hardpack. if you don't think you're up for that gnarly of a ski (in reality they're not that bad, people make them out to be a lot gnarlier than they really are), check out jjs. those are probably my second favorite ski for bc type riding.

they have less sidecut than most skis, but people make them out to be unturnable. they turn pretty well. they're not slalom skis, but they'll carve an arc. but they do have a longer radius so that makes them track a lot straighter in powder situations. i love them. i just think they're a little too soft so i got the ants.
