In need of backflip tips

so i tried my first backflip sunday at mtsnow, off the last kicker in gulch for those who are familiar.

so i finally grew a pair, popped, threw the arms and head straight back. then, i uh, stopped rotating. I just remember watching the back of the kicker/deck upside down while floating. i ended up landing on my head/neck/back and winding myself.

so, what are some tips. i know comitt, but how. Should i do the trick where you throw your arms back, and then tuck them under my knees? or will that throw me off even more?

practice on on diving boards etc... when your doing it throw your hips foward and look back spot your land and bring your skis around

everyone thinks your supposed to use your head and arms...WRONG

its all in the hips and lower body. drive that through basically and kick your feet forward off the jump.
once you get better at them you can use your upper body more

dude you need to hit up a tramp this week before you try it again. it feels exactly the same on skis than on the tramp, except with a little extra weight on your feet. make sure to pop off the jump, dont just roll off it backwards, if you know what i mean. throw your head back through the whole flip, watch for your landing, and stick it. swing your arms, commit commit commit, thats basically the whole thing of it.

if its got enouhg kick you should be able to just lean back, and throw your hips into it

you gotta commit your whole body to the rotation. keep that head lookin up and back. throw your knees into your chest. if you can do them on a trampoline you should have no problem... same thing just a little bit slower... gainer styleee

yeah i like to throw them like this hump (hump the air) mario (make your arms do the thing mario does when he jumps) and gargle throw your head back like when you gargle salt water for a sore throat) so think of it as: hump mario while gargling.

hahahahahah thats the funniest thing ive read in so long. and essentially, it kinda makes sense!

Yeah I've never tried them on skis, but I do them all the time on trampolines. Remember to not start your rotation after you get off your toes when you jump. Throw your arms back, along with your head, and bring your knees up. This will drive you around, and as soon as you see your landing, try just straightening your legs out in front of you (like your doing a truckdriver). Experiment with different styles until you find one that works perfect for you.

suck your legs up, maybe find a jump that is a little bit more lippy. practice gainers on diving boards first, if you can do a gainer, backflips are easy

do not set it with your arms legs neck or anything like that, set it with your hips. practicing makes it easier so get on a trampoline diving board or something - and you are stopping because either you are spotting the ground too early or getting scared

for your first couple, just pop like a motherfucker and keep going till you see the landing. arms dont mean anything get you hips over.

Find a tramp or a padded matress or something..landing on ice is pretty unforgiving if you fuck up, and if this only your second attempt EVER your going to fuck up again

my second attempt off a jump ever I stomped mine...you just have to commmit. It's not that hard if you know how to throw it.

pretty much pretend like your going to reach back and grab the tails of your skis, and stay that way until you see your rotation finishing. throw your weight up and back, and keep your head back spotting your landing. i think you may have stopped looking back and were just looking straight back where you came from, which will slow your rotation.

Make sure u go completly verticle and dont do the mistake of some ppl by kind of going off to the side

oh and start off small and work ur way up cuz i just broke both my thumbs doing a backflip on a big air for the first time

I find the easiest way is to pop hard, drive your hips if you have the rotation the layout and prepare for landing if you're under rotating grab your knees

I think you mean quit while he still has a head haha.

but no, just commit like everyone said, and while your r learning you reaaally should try to avoid hardpack/ice and just do them when theres pow/dam soft snow, and make yourself a kicker that has a lip that will set you up perfectly to learn them.

This isn't very good advice, spotting your landing is still essential. You don't want to let your feet get ahead of the rotation, or else you will get stuck looking at your legs when you're upside down. Lean back, look back, throw your arms a little, then kick your legs just enough to really get you flipping. then spot the landing and stomp it.

Look back, but make sure you bring your hips/legs around. You'll stop rotating if your legs/hips don't come around.

Once you're almost upside down completely, be sure to pull your hips/legs around. At that point, stick out your landing gear and you should be done.

You obvoiusly cant do them. You have to tuck your knees into your chest once ur upside down some pull knees to chest I go chest to knees. It actually is what you need to do.

you got scared and froze. it's a continuous motion you gotta keep flexing your back and ass muscles real tight. and spot that landing homie

ah im pissed im not gunna be there to witness this! make sure a bunch of your buddies are there to call you pussy to get you amped, thats how i learned.

what!?!? i can't wait until sunday night, the suspense is killing me, go stomp it now. how the hell am i supposed to sleep at night not knowing?

go off the jump and just lean back.. imagine ur entire body bending like a banana.. seriosuly..if u jsut lean back and look lieka banana the whole time ur in the air till u land..ull make the rotation..
