i would call a constitutional amendment 'forcing your views' on others. why can't bush distinguish between church and state.

this is a non-issue. yet i am sure that some perversion of these same arguments were voiced prior to the womens rights and the civil rights movements. hopefully in a few years everyone will realize how discriminatory they were.

i personally cannot believe the amount of un/de/nonprogression and acceptance the bush government has caused the american and inherently the world population.

to sum up my beliefs on this issue: it shouldn't be an issue. Peoples' private lives (gay or straight), are simply that, private. The state should not have the power to intervene in the rpivate lives of citizens, in this case mariage. To add to that, the most common reason for anti-homosexual sentiments is religion. People are entitled to their opinion, but the bottom line is that we live in a secular society, or at least we are supposed to. The bible should in no way play any part in the law, end of story.

Alright, first off, who gives a shit one way or another what a book says? Its written down, but that doesn't mean anything. It means some anonymous person who lived a really long time ago dissaproved of homosexuality. Remember, this is back when people believed in witchcraft. Secondly, what is marriage? You say i do, you have a party and thats it, your married. You now get to wear that ring with pride. Marriage is something that doesnt even effect the married couple, so why would you give a shit if some homo got married to another? It doesnt affect you in the least bit, which is what everyone has been saying. Also, whatever happened to separation of church and state? I thought marriage was a religious thing, not legally binding. Furthermore, if your going to deny gays the right to marry, it completely defeats the point the US being a 'free nation'. Last of all, this post is gay.

well im catholic and im fairly religious, but i don't understand this whole anti-gay thing at all. first of all, even if i disagreed with it because of my beliefs, i would still think the whole amendment thing is stupid because of seperation of church and state. everyone is supposed to have equal rights in this country, and if gays are denied the right to marry than we should just not let blacks marry either, because its the same discrimination. secondly, i don't understand why so many people have a problem with gay people in general. i mean i don't really want to watch to gay people make out or anything at all, it makes me somewhat uncomfortable, but i accept that that is the way they are and the way they live their lives. it seems very hypocritical to me that a christian like myself would think it's wrong because we are supposed to love all people and treat them as we would want to be treated. if god hates gay people and wants to throw them in hell, why did he create them? of course the stupid ignorant people always say that being gay is a choice, which is totally ridiculous to me. i hate this whole religous/conservative battle against homosexuals, it's just like the fuckin ku klux klan.

 
bush has said on a few occassions ademnding teh constitution to state that marrige is a agreement betwen a man and a woman. Such a statement would make it un constitutional for a man dna a man or a woman and a woman to marry.

^ damn right, I'm agreeing with this guy up above. I can live with my girlfriend for 10 years and we'd be married under common law simply because of our living arrangement, no ceremony, no priest, no vows. there is no religious aspect to being married under law, so there should be no religious opposition.

As for gays being married in a church, that is the church's decision, not the governments. If the chruch said they would marry gays but the government said no then the couples would be married 'under God' but not legally married. the two are very different. The 'sanctity' of marriage comes from its religious roots, all legal aspects of the marriage don't contribute to it's sanctity, so marriage under law really has no sanctity, just a definition that should rightfully be changed.
