Hey guys I just got a mac for christmas and final cut pro and I don't know how to import videos to it can anyone help? Also i have a sony handycam hdr-cx300

since it records onto a hard drive, i believe you will be able to just drag clips from the drive to your documents, then from your documents into final cut

i dont think final cut can edit AVCHD natively it has to transcode it to prores but im not sure you might be right

sorry but what is log and transfer? i have no firewire and when i hook up my cam nothing pops up but i can upload to i movie easily

file>log and transfer

your camera should pop up and you can see all your clips. then drag them to the bottom half of the window and they will copy over onto your computers hard drive and into the project

When i'm in final cut theres no log only log and capture and 'set logging bin'. When I click either of them my camera doesn't come up.

Are you sure you aren't using Final Cut Express? File > Log and Transfer should indubitably be there in Final Cut Pro...

What kind of mac? If its a macbook pro then it has a slot for your sd card, so you can just plug the card in and use log and transfer in fcp. Im not sure if the other macs have the slot. I've had trouble in the past connecting cameras to computers, so I find using a card reader is much easier.

Sorry for the thread jack, but when I edit on my schools imac for film class, my 7d isnt recognized on the computer. I have to use my card reader. It recognizes the card reader and I can get the clips onto the comp from there, but log and transfer never finds the files. I even tried it with the EOS plugin and it didnt work. Its not a huge deal but its nice to eliminate a step in the work flow. Anyone have the same problem/know whats going on?

you are gonna want to change a couple settings in final cut pro before starting the editing process. (1) With the HD footy you want to use the anamorphic setting to turn frame size into 16:9. (2) As said above, try using the log and transfer, that should do the trick. Hope that helped a little

I also have some sd cards lying around my house but when i try to record on those and put it on the computer I can only see my pictures. And when my vids do come up I cant play them.
