Importing film from a camcorder

I have a Panasonic pv gs500. and windows xp, compaq computer.

my camcorder is a Mini Dv. and when i try to import movies onto my computer (Motion Dv). it says no camcorder connected.

any help

did u install the driver it comes with. there was a cd. sometimes it wont read the camera. install the cd and it will read the cam. i had the same problem when i had my gs500
