Any of you guys in Duluth need to try to make this meeting so a bunch of old guys don't end up killing Spirit's future:

4 - MASTER PLANNING PROCESS: Spirit Mountain is embarking on a

major, long-range planning effort that is unprecedented in our 34-year

history, and we are inviting you to share your important perspectives

during the initial step of this process. We have hired a team of

experts to help develop a Master Plan that will guide Spirit Mountain's

future as we further expand our role as a year-round, urban resort that

generates more than $30 million annually in economic impact on the

Duluth area. On Thursday, October 18th, we will host an Ideation

Session to which we are inviting the public to come and share with us

your views, ideas, and suggestions. The Ideation Session will be held

at Spirit Mountain from 6pm - 8pm. If you would like to attend, or

would prefer to submit your thoughts via email, please write to: masterplan@spiritmt.com. We look forward to your participation in this monumental project.

so what happens when we show up? are we actually going to be able to talk or are we just there for moral support?

it seems like this would be interesting to be at, but personally I don't have major ideas that would affect Spirits year round business.

i'm with dave some more freeriding in minnesota would awesome. Also allen idea reminds of that one level on tony hawks pro skater

I was there. It was kind of disappointing that there wasn't a good large group of skiers there... Coach John was really the only guy there supporting the freestyle skiers. The rest of us were mainly there for mountain biking. But John made some good points and definitely put in some good thoughts on how to make the park much better.

other than that, not much else was said about skiing... They were actually taking everyones thoughts pretty seriously, the more support you had for your ideas, the more they listened and talked about it.

I thought it was an interesting meeting. I know I was the one who basically said that this was more encompassing than just skiing, but I am deffinately happy I went. I thought a lot of good ideas were brought from this ideation time... ideation, seems trendy to me. But yeah anyway, I think that the future of Spirit may have been affected to some extent by that meeting, None of it will be a quick change, but I happy to see Spirit rethinking what they could do in for future.

ya, some guy mentioned it. I think if you want to see changes at spirit, emails wont do it. You have to have to have a laid out plan and physically present it to make it happen.

with an attitude like that, you will never see anything new at spirit. You can't just expect them to do all this stuff, you have to present to them what you want and how they can make it happen. bitching about how it will never happen wont do shit.

A group of about 5 of us presented what we would like to do at spirit concerning biking, and we knew what we wanted to say and how we could make it happen. Because of this, we will most likely be able to take our plans further because we showed the management that we know what we're doing. If you presented something like this to spirit about skiing, $20 says that they will listen and take you seriously. Don't bitch unless you actually take the initiative to make a change. If you were at the meeting or knew anything about it, you would know what they are trying to do to make spirit more usable, cost efficient, and more enjoyable year round. I get the idea that many people think that spirit is just this shit hole that doesn't do anything for anyone, but really, it's the other way around, people don't take any action to get what they want, they just wine about it hoping it will be done for them. daveb can back me up on this.

I TRIED to get out there, but I couldn't get a ride. And I'm not saying they wouldn't do ANYTHING, I'm just saying they wouldn't buy new rails because they are expensive and they already have more rails than they use, I guess I should have said it that way, but I didn't.

this is true all the rails come from freestyle pretty much they help the park a ton thats the greatest thing bout freestyle. but they are sponsored by sobe this year(spirit) so i would not be suprised to see more new jibs. last thing for our ski team meeting coach john said somethin bout using a diffrent flat rail that was donated or somthing for preseason if i figgure out new info ill let you guys kno

that broke the C-box the shotgun and the 35 footer yea they suck ass its like the maneger of damage or somethin like that he broke lutsens flat down flat box plus if anyone was up there last winter you would kno how shitty there jumps on were

I think all that it would take to get a better park would be to get a small group together to go to one of the board meetings, put together some slides of some nicer parks, and present on how this would make spirit a better place to ski. As long as you didn't complain about the park, and just suggested on how to make it better, I'm sure they'd do something about it.

I was going to quote you guys but I want to quote three of you so I'll just do it myself.

Quoting daveb:

"I think it has something to do with terrible cat drivers who don't give a damn"

I have a personal experience with Spirit's cat drivers not giving a damn. When I was in 5th grade, I had a lot of trouble remembering shit, so DON'T make fun of me for this. Once, when I was on the Alpine Club's Development Team, I accidentally left my skis at the top of the bunny hill. When I got home and realized this, I decided I would head back up to Spirit and get them the next morning. I expected that the cat driver would've moved them off to the side (they were too small to be worth stealing and not in good shape). Instead, I found them partially buried in the snowbank behind the bunny hill by the team building.

Quoting horner:

"I think all that it would take to get a better park would be to get a

small group together to go to one of the board meetings, put together

some slides of some nicer parks, and present on how this would make

spirit a better place to ski. As long as you didn't complain about the

park, and just suggested on how to make it better, I'm sure they'd do

something about it."

I'll help if you seriously want to try it.

Quoting ducknhuck:

or have a border do it they really dont like the skiers

True that. We didn't get a single skiing comp last year. It's a bunch of bullshit.

no we had one but it was not put on by spirit and this year we have jib acedemy for the young kids:) luckly ill be one of them

When was the comp? Who sponsored it?

I could use a Jib Academy, even though I'm not a little kid. I didn't get to the park much last season because I was chillin' with my friend on the other side of the mountain while he learned to snowboard.

winner, from what i have heard prins just told everyone to hike the hill if they didnt want to buy tickets

yeah Peins did not make a good impression at Spirit. Can I remind everyone that spirits park is good. The groomers do a good job, except for taking out a couple of rails...They just need more of everything. On way you will make yourself absolutely looked over is by saying spirit has crappy anything. Spirit does a good job.

Damn Straight, we really have it good here, I would like to hear what you guys think spirit should do to make it better, other than better cat drivers.

And another thing, if spirit is anything like hyland in terms of reveue, the majority of their money comes from lessons and rentals, so of course more money is going to be put into having better rental skis and getting higher quality instructors (like Jernt(what ever a type of name that is)). The thing i dont think many of you are realizing is that we pay 199 bucks a year to ski. And ski lessons are held daily at 20$ for a lesson of 1.5hrs and 30$ for 3 hours and snowboard lessons are an extra five bucks on top of that. so these lessons run daily like i said 4 times a day so thats 28 times a week and lets say the average class size is 7 kids, (i feel like that was the size when i was younger).so thats 196 kids a week, and at 20 bucks a pop thats 3920$ and im sure that there are multiple classes of this one specific lessson going on at once so they are making well over that.

But for most of the kids that ride park up here are very frequent to spirit and get their 199$ worth out of the pass. So what im getting at is that the things that generate more revenue are going to be priority number one. But im not saying that they are not going to listen to us and not put any money into the park, because they do, its just going to be more difficult to get them to do drastic changes to the park. And sitting around on NS isnt going to get much stuff done. But hey, Im content with the park set up now

BOOYA!!!

theres no snow yet haha. and i think everyone is saying that they dont like the jibs not how consistent it is. the jibs are good but we need more of a variety. like a f-d and a f-d-f and a s-rail and some little banana and a regular banana arnt wat were looking for we want more flat rails and a c box that was fun and just more variety of things that are fun...not many people kno this but me and a few freinds had the oppertunity to talk to a person from the park crew and we asked y the c-box wasnt in and he said he was told to tell anyone who asked that we had to many boxes in the park as it was.... we had 2 hows that to many?

well it was F.O.D's decison on what they were gonna give and a battle ship box was the one chosen so i guess thats the reason. there was talk last year bout gettin us a stair set from F.O.D lets see if it goes thru

you were correct. i went down to the groomer shack yesterday before the ski swap and found a new higher better shotgun, the old flat down is out and the C box. along with the flat rail used for the super sesh 2. hopefully well be seeing these out there this year
