Import Problems

Hey, NS. So today my friend and I were filming and when I tried to import the files into iMovie (yes I know I'm getting a better editing software when I get used to editing and get better) they wouldn't import, it just said error. I want to know how i can fix this problem. Also, when I go to find the files, they can't be clicked on. Some of my other files can be clicked, but for some reason these ones don't.
 
i have a mac, and i'm almost 100% sure that it's iMovie 11. (the latest one) i installed it yesterday. i don't know how to find out the file type though. i just filmed with a digital camera. it's some sort of Canon.
 
it's all good. i got my brother in law to teach me how to use everything and he got everything working. thank you anyways!
