Imperfections in the bases on new skis: do they matter?

Got a new pair of skis the other day and when I got them home I did the

"hold the ski base-side up and look down the length of it to see if the

bases are flat and smooth" test. I noticed that one of the skis has two

little depressions toward the tip where it looks like somebody left the

ski on the grinder for a bit too long. Is this going to make any

difference at all, or should I just forget about it and go skiing? I

feel like a whiny little racer boy for even worrying about this, but

the skis are brand new and I want 'em to be right. What do you guys

think?

And I know someone is going to suggest I just take them back to the shop where I got them, which makes total sense, BUT I work at a shop and EP'd the skis from a small brand that my shop

doesnt carry. If I were to return them, it would involve a few e-mails

and/or phone calls, paying to ship them halfway across the country, and

then waiting for another pair to show up on my doorstep. Plus I'd piss

off the guys at the company who were super cool to me when I got in

touch with them about getting on a pair of their skis.

it probably wont make a difference. ski them, and i you can tell, have them belt sanded and stone ground. theres no need to return a ski for that

don't bother returning them if you copped a good deal int he first place, too hard basket.

From what your sayin i doubt it'll have any structural implications plus you should be ok if its just the tip of the ski. Under you foot usually recieves the most abuse. If its really noticeably i'd stone grind em, wax, or ptex if its really neccessary and you should be good to go

Figure out if the depression(s) area is a real problem. It may cause the tip of the ski to hook/catch and you'll go numbnuts on your first rail. I can't tell u if u have a big problem or small but if you have a true bar or steel wax scraper chk the base for flatness or take it to any shop, preferably with a good stonegrinder and ask them to check it with a true bar and see if anybody gets exited. Another cheap test is put your skis together and press the tips together if both tip bases don't touch u or u see light thru them then the ski may be catchy. The cost of a grind might be the same as the shipping back and trouble time...is it the Ptex base or is it the core thats dinged ? .Good luck

I bet they are atomics, atomics have a weird concave thing with the bases. Anyway they don't make a difference.
