i have always used pc's, and have always loved them...exept for the fact that ther is always a problem with them. Now that im givin the chance to get a computer of my own, i dont kno what to go with. A pc, or a new imac? I'll be using the internet alot, aol instant messenger alot, and video editing....and tons of people have told me that from an artistic point, imacs are the way to go. Please help

imacs are dope for editing and stuff. i love macs, but the only downfall to them is that mostly every other place in the world uses PC. i have to use PCs for my business cuz the programs i need aren't available for mac. however, if you only are using it for editing and internet like you said, go with the mac

unless you are using it for the SOUL purpose of video/audio editing, get a PC...

besides, you can edit just aswell on a PC anyways with the right programs

macs are dope for editing and music and stuff, we have to use them in video class, but for everything else, they get so fucking frustrating. but they also dont ever crash cuz most viruses are sent out by mac users that hate bill gates, which is y i hate all thing mac

Depends on the format. For text, macs can just save things in RTF, which is immediately openable by PC programs. Also, MacWord format is the same as PC word... most things are transferable.

Oh, and whatever you get, get a HUGE CRT cause it takes up a lot of room and makes you look COOL. I have a 21 inch! They are NICE AND BIG.

Get whatevers most comfortable to you. I see macs as instant gratification and PC's as something you build up. With macs you get whatever editing software and then you go and do it. With a PC it might take you longer(unless your made of $$$) to get all the hardware and software for good editing, but it will be a higher end machine in the end--and will be very usefull for things other than just editing. But like i said i would just get whatever your more comfortable with. Good luck.

Here's a mac question... if I get an external USB DVD burner that's supposed to work on PCs, will it also work on my Ibook? It says nowhere on the site. And firewire ones are about 100$ more.

Will you morons please stop using PC as meaning 'Windows computer' I have a PC but not Windows, and I doubt many of you Mac fanboys would be able to find a flaw with it as easily as you can with the improperly maintained Windows PC's that half of these douche-tards are running.

Macs have such a minimal amount of spyware on the internet compared to a pc its unbelievable. And if you are a huge editing, media, and music person macs are just for you. PC's are good for gaming. Macs are just flat out sexy too, who can't deny a sexy computer?

I'll help you with your problem before I tear you a new asshole, hows that. Go to the companies website and see if they have drivers for that peice of hardware for OS X, if not, the peice of hardware should probably still work. OS X tends to be pretty decent towards hardware detection.

Anyways... Back to the Mac fanboys and your propoganda bullshit. I like Mac Laptops. If i could afford one right now I would own a Powerbook to use for school because I like them a lot, would I keep OS X on it? No... I would install GentooPPC Linux.

Your arguments towards why PC's suck are all directed towards Windows in general, which is a flawed OS, however, if you know how to maintain your computer properly you won't have a problem. Install updates, don't use Internet Explorer, use Firefox instead, run Ad-Aware, don't download and run random email attachments, etc. All of this is common sense that every Windows user should know, however most people just blame it on the hardware, when 90% of the time its problems with the person using the software. I have to have a Windows PC for school, because I use Visual Studio .net for assignments. It runs perfectly fine, does everything I need, doesn't have a bit of spyware on it and no virus's even after having the same Windows XP installation for almost a year. It all just comes down to who can use a computer and who can't. OS X is not immune to spyware or problems either. If you people cared to read up on Slashdot and other news sites, there was an article about spyware being developed for the Mac OS X program. The thing is, its just not feasible since Mac's take up such a small portion of the market, its more feasible to program malware for the Windows platform. This is why you see so many Windows spyware and virus's. In any case, I really don't like using Windows. I use my own compilation of Gentoo Linux. It does everything I need, doesn't have any problems, uses barely any system resources while running (unlike OS X or Windows, which are equally as bloated) You can argue the superiority of Mac processors all day long, sure, the G5 is a superior processor, but what are you paying for it? I can build a new PC for 300 dollars, can you buy any Mac for anywhere near that cheap? No, to get the top of the line Mac its WELL over 3 grand. I can build a top of the line PC for under 1,000 bucks, and it will be upgradeable in the future, will the Mac? Not as much as the PC. Sure you can add a DVD burner, or RAM, but nowhere near as upgradable or tweakable as your average PC. The prices you people pay are absolutely ludicrous for the average Mac, and no, the same software is NOT availible for OS X as for a Windows box. Windows computers have an EXTREMELY hefty share of the market, 90% of game companies write for Windows only, and a good portion of other applications are written Windows only, its just good buisness sense. Would you spend an assload of money catering to a minority group, or make good money catering to the majority. It's the same reason I get angry because I can't locate certain programs for my Linux box.

Macs are far superior to PC because OSX is simply a very advance GUI running on a Unix platform. Infinitly more stable than a PC and not to mention faster. This makes running profesional programs like Final Cut Pro HD, After Effects, Motion, Photoshop etc etc. much less of a hassle than on a PC.

Even for a home user they are a better bet, as mentioned above, there is no spyware, no adware and virtualy no viruses effecting MAC computers. Not everyone is as computer savy as you are, and maintaining a PC is either just to difficult for them, or they just might not have the time... A computer shouldn't be like a vegtable garden, requiring upkeep all the time. You should turn it on and use it.

as far as mac pc compatability... Microsoft makes the entire office suite (word excel powerpoint etc. etc.) in a mac version that is cross platform compatible. Plus the Mac iLife (consumer music photo video editing) software is far supperior to anything being offered on a PC

if you play games, get a pc. if you dont, get a mac. mac's are much better designed and dont crash at all. and by the way, if you build your own pc it will cost you half as much as it would to buy a name brand one

Er... you really didn't 'tear me a new asshole', since you're not arguing against ME... I didn't say anything anti-windows or anti-pc, and haven't on NS for... well, since I can remember, actually. But if it makes you feel better to THINK you've e-triumphed over me, then by all means continue. Everyone else does, lately.

At any rate, they have no drivers on their website (this was the first thing I checked), and yet, the same is true for (for example) Iriver products, etc. And yet, they work fine. I realize that most optical drives need drivers, and yet, Apple often has a way of getting around these things (my digi cam has PC drivers, but works without them on my Ibook; I just plug it in). Maybe I'm being overly optimistic about this, but... it seemed worth asking before spending considerably more on a firewire burner when USB would do just fine.

That too is the amazing thing... LG has no support email. They have a phone number, that operates only during business hours. I already tried calling it, they said to call back during 9-5.

Actually, they have Canadian and US support staff within Canada and the US (Which is really pretty good, since most American companies outsource that stuff to India). But office hours are apparently a problem.

I will explain what I meant by my Xbox statement.

An Xbox is just an x86 based computer, x86 is the architecture of the CPU's used in PC systems, i.e. Pentium, Athlon, etc. All an Xbox is is a Pentium 3 system with GeForce 3 graphics and 64 MB of RAM, and an 8-10 gig HDD. Pretty much just a PC with a proprietary operating system designed by Microsoft on it. Its a PC.

I don't even understand what's wrong with playing games on a PC? Nothing. It adds nothing to the argument, if I want top of the line games, the best multiplayer, of course I'm going to build a PC. Mac users are just bitter about it.
