IMac G5 Running Slow

i have a 17" 1.9 GHz 512mb memory imac that has been running fine until i started using final cut, it takes days for a 30 min clip to render and keeps on freezing when using final cut, it seems pretty normal when i use everything else but is extremely slow in final cut. Is it my computer, final cut, or something else making it slow. what can i do? any help would be great

you need WAY more ram. That's whats making it slow. 512 for final cut (pro?, express?) is really not enough. And try to use no other apps when you're using final cut, cause YES it's really demanding, especially when rendering.

he's exactly right. 512 mb is sooo totally not enough memory to run final cut especially if its pro. My macbook has 2 gb and it runs google sketchup slowly cuz it takes so much memory. It's not too expensive to upgrade your memory but remember to pair everything correctly when you have it done. So if you want 2gb you'll need 2 1gb cards. If you want 1 gb you'll need 2 512mb cards. If you're going to be doing a TON of editing. Like professional editing long movies, you could go 4 gb (2 2gb cards) but thats not cheap at all as 2gb cards are kind of hard to come by.

if you search enough you can get to a nice deal. I got my 4gigs of ram for my macbook for 112$ including tax, so i'm pretty happy with it (and its not cheap ass RAM, its Kingston)
Oh btw, don't buy a cheap brand cause sometimes your computer just doesnt recognize it so you bought it for nothing.

Well, okay i was kind of lying. I work at an apple reseller, so i have near-cost prices on everything, including RAM. So now you know apporximately how much money your local electronic store makes on your back when you buy 4 gigs of ram...

hahaha, smooth. So that explains your intimate knowledge of macs! That's gotta be a bitchin job to have though, gotta love working with what you love.

hell yeah! plus, i get ridiculous prices on accessories (apple product's costs are insanely high!), like RAM

Only downside is i always have to push extended warranties, which i dont really believe in, so it stresses me each time i sell a computer. Oh well, at least i sell macs.

See i'm the complete opposite, I have a terrible habit of breaking stuff so I live on extended warranties. Which apple store do you work at?

its actually a reseller...the biggest in quebec, and the biggest repair center in Canada
called Micro-boutique

Ok well I know where to go if I'm ever in Canada and my computer dies hahaha. I'll just walk in and yell "Does anyone know how to get to chad's gap from the bottom of alta?!"
