well pretty much the title says it all. Everyone sayign how sick it was. hate to say it butr it just seemed like a whole lot of spinning in the big air. people would take off switch, huck a spin, do a grab with a cross and land. wheres the flips? wheres the non crossed grabs? super hit was good though.

same here... seemed to me what I watched was all spins, mostly switch, and some corked... basically it... and seemed the landing was all that decided some of the competitions.

ya, well, how many tricks are there that will win comps? switch is a MUST, and well, if you can throw a switch 10 solidly, it will give you a shot at winning comps. as jon said, 'it's what the judges wanted to see'

ya but once everyone learned cab corks (like they already have) they know thats what wins comps. and right now thats all thats being thrown. look at the top 5 of any comp and thats their tricks. it gets boring. what happened to everyone preaching,style this, slow low rotations that. sure jons cab 10 tail was clean as fuck but his 7 looked so much smoother. when is style going to start winning comps?

i agree with 1080 i think the way to go is unnatural spins. it's starting to show in the pipe which is awesome. now people should start to incorperate it into big air. like a sick floaty unnatty 5 would be wicked sick to see and prolly just as sick to do. im a huge fan on unnatty tricks

Yeah no doubt they were sick tricks int he Big Air Comp but a bit of variety is definiately good.

Highlight has to be Ronald McDonald taking a face full of stairs on the rail session.

I was at the WSI and don't get me wrong, I think it was INCREDIBLY sick (particularly the halfpipe) but I can relate to the sense that more variety in the big air would have been nice. I understand why everyone threw all switch spins as it's the only way to win competitions but maybe that says something about problems with how competitions are judged. I love switch 9's etc. as much as the next guy but when rider after rider throws them over and over again all night it starts to get a bit old. I thought that one of the big things that's been going on in skiing over the last few years is an attempt to get away from the whole 'spin to win' mentality and focus more on super smooth style and unnatural tricks etc. I think Jon was definitely on to something when he said he personally thought people should have stuck to 7's on a jump like that (especially since his switch 7 nose was so damn sick) but also think it would be good if riders were judged to at least some degree on the fact that they throw down a few different styled out tricks instead of the same one over and over again. I know all you surly guys out there are just going to give me shit for saying this stuff but it's just something to think about. Skiing has come such a long way in the last 5 or 6 years that I think it would be sweet if riders were able to take advantage of events like the WSI where lots of people who don't know a lot about what's going on in skiing lately and give them a better idea of all the crazy shit that's going on instead of just showcasing our ability to take off backwards and spin like crazy.

Who is suposed to be giving the sport direction?

I think it should be the skiers who are progressing the sport daily, not some turd with a pen and a peice of paper.

Maybe less pressure should be put on the skiers to win comps and then we would see more variety and new tricks being tried.
