I cant decide between a camcorder or a camera. I have been saving and I got the money for either but I dont know what to choose. I only have 700 so either the canon10 or something nice for photography. What would you guys do.

I had that exact same decision 2 years ago and I regret going with a camcorder. Its nice for skiing I guess but I bought a canon xti later and I use it so much more. I like videos but I am much more into photography now.

camcorders are pretty sick but using a camera is way better for everyhing except skiing. if you only wanna take pics while skiing though, i would go with the camcorder

I've always been a video guy, although you can't capture stuff outside of sports as well as you can with photography. You have to be into the video to make it worthwhile filming art/places where they're is no skiing, because those are the places that photography excells. You can still shoot that stuff with a camcorder, it just takes more vision/dedication/time to set everything.

You need to decide whether you have said vision and whether what you'd mostly be shooting. If more skiing, probs camcorder...if more artsy shit (lol) then camera...I guess

if you like taking pictures in general, then get a camera, if you'd only be taking pictures of skiing then i'd go with the camcorder

unless you know that your going to be filming a lot of skiing, id probably go with the camera because you will get more use out of it

i've always been a video fan but i would rather see lifestyle taken in photos rather than video

very good choice, you can take pictures of everything nearly every day, but camcorders are only any good for skiing, and you probably don't go skiing as often as you're not

not true...people just don't have the dedication to stand the hassle using them anywhere else...

Panasonic pv-gs320. Probably why I didnt get as into videography as much as photography. Photography is a bit cheaper to get a pretty nice camera compared to a nice camcorder.

Ive got both the cameras in the thread ( rebel xt and gs 320..) and I

got them after the season was over and so far I think I like the xt

better.. I love my video camera but I just find it a lot harder to get

artsy shots. . If I were you id follow what the other guys are saying..

if your going to just be documenting skiing go with the video camera..

if you think youll want to do more outside of skiing go with digital

camera..

also you said you had around 700. you could also do what I did and buy both. I got a rebel xt and a panasonic pv gs 320.. rebel xt = 330 + gs320 = 320 so your looking at 650 but thats with out everything like tapes and lenses.. the rebel was used but the gs was not. just a thought if your still on the fence.
