Im super nervous

I play Cornerback for my highschool varsity football team, im in grade 10 and am a wopping 5'3" 120lbs. Im second string but since our 1st string CB got injured im playing in our home opener tomorrow and im shitting myself! i started last week in an exhibition game which i did ok in but it was agaisnt a shit team.

Tomorrow we are playing the second best team in our confrence and since there not varsity i will definetly be covering grade 11/12 recievers which is ok and all acept for the fact that there probably over 6ft. This is my first year playing varsity( last year are school went junior, senior).

I know im going to get alot of action because just picture your self as a QB and you look over and see a little 5'3" kid covering your senior WR who happens to be 6'3" speedy and black( black is key)

i really dont want to make any mistake's right away because i get down on my self easily so thats just going to fuck up my game. and i dont want to look bad infront of the coach because who know's if i play well tomorrow i might secure my spot as a starter for the next game.

anyone want to give me advice for getting over my nervosness.

relax man theres a 5'4" kid thats the corner at my school, hit some kids hard the first few plays and play scrappy and youll be fine they never go his way after he takes out their legs every time, plus you got safetys to back you up so dont worry about it

sorry dude but any way you look at it 5'4" vs. 6'3" is a mismatch any way i look at it. find a shorter receiver and guard him i'd say.

word dude i know how you feel. my freshman year of soccer i started and the rest of the team was 9 juniors/seniors one sophomore and me. shit was scary. just play how you know how to and you'll be good.

bump them at the line and just run with them, if your playing CB you should be pretty fast. Its only high school, so the QB probably won't be that good and as long as you have decent coverage there's almost no way they throw the receiver a perfect ball. Just stay close enough and you'll do fine. Just remember it's only high school, so don't sweat it if you make any mistakes.

i do that to myself also, i got moved up for a game and played varsity hockey as a 5'4 freshman against massive kids and i was scared shitless but i just tried not thinking at all except about the game and what i had to do and it worked out fine, if you're thinking about what you look like playing you'll play shitty, just play your game

Fuck my life, im actually hating my self right now. I played today and not only did our team get fucking raped but i fucking sucked shit. Im actually thinking of quiting football. there's no way i can play. Im to fucking short, this fucking team just put me man to man with there best reciever everytime ( who was 6'2") i could cover him, he wasnt faster than me i stuck to him like glue but the QB just throws it high enough so the reciver can catch and i cant do shit. I got pulled by the second quarter afdter two TD's were related to my mistake's. Im actually nevert going to be starting again.

People used to be like " you play football!?!" ( because of my size) and i was like "yea i do, size doesnt matter that much" but they were right and i was fucking wrong.

fuck i am pissed, i let my team , myself and my coaches down.

youre not the only one who screwed up if they repeatedly put you up against their best receiver..dont get down on yourself man, high school sports are mostly about fun dont quit! youll regret it

i guess, i dont know though. Like its not my teams fault i get the good reciever its the other team moves the reciever to miy side of the field then put three recievers on the other side. Forcing me to go man to man with him.

just try to relax, i played corner for my Varsity team too and if you get yourself all worked up you will make mistakes, and one advantage you hopefully will have on the tall kids is your speed and agility, if your team playes man coverage that is prob best and if you stay right with the guy off the line and smother him, hes going to get frustrated and the QB is going to stop looking your way, so be quick and smart, see if you can get some good fast breaks on the ball before the big dudes even think about moving, and last but not least, HAVE FUN...good luck

What about trying a WR position? If you're fast enough and agile enough you should be able to beat the other teams corners and make things happen. You're already CB so you gotta have good hands.

Listen to some Rage Against the Machine right before the game and drink like 10 Red Bulls and shoot up some meth as you're walking out onto the field.

alright heres the deal... you need to relax first of all because i know a ton of people who are in the same situation as you.i am also a 5'3 125 lbs corner/receiver,,,i started the first 2 games because the guy i switch in with got suspended(hahaha) but the did the same exact thing as they did to you. Just hang in there dude ive been thinking about quitting because of my size too but i can't imigine not playing football so stay calm and chill

your defensive teams coach must be retarded too because you should switch with the other corner when the 6'3 kid is there depending on the other guys size

yea we could but they could always snap the ball in mid switch wich would be disaterous( SP?)

and "crazyfuck" whats so funny about the thread??

well all i am saying is we switched cus i was 5'3 and the other corner was 5'11 but we stood in the middle of the field or wherever the middle where the ball spotted was and if we saw the big tall wr wed switch to opposite sides

oh ok i get wat your saying now.

ill bring it up with my coach tomorrow at practice.

I really hope my coaches havnt lost all faith in me.

well the only other position i could play would be WR but my hands arent quite good enough and i much prefer defence( yea i know what your thinking, well if you like defence so much stop bitching and moaning on how you suck)

i have played WRbefore and didnt like it much.

and i agree with the height thing but in some positions it makes a BIG difference. I mean if your 5'9" covering someone who is 6'0" its a ta better match up then if your 5'3" covering a 6'0" WR.

although i shouldnt be using this as an excuse because its not liked i didnt want to play, i did want to play i just didnt want to fuck up. but its not like anyone wants to fuck up.

Just dont let anybody behind you Assuming you have deep third that is, and try to cover as good as you can, just make sure you come up on the ball rather than have to chase somebody downfield to defend it.

Cornerback is definitly my favorite possition, I played O line, D line and tight end before I made my way to CB where i stayed for the season.

Just relax, take it easy and make sure your safetys are backing you up.

if you wanna play that position then play it, no one is stoping you. your putting so much pressure on yourself by saying your gonna fuck up and do bad. you just gotta get in the game man, and i know its pretty fuckin intimidating when the person your up with is a foot taller then you, but use your hight and speed to your advantage, and if you deck the shit out of the guy your covering a couple times i garuntee you he wont get the ball, or when its thrown to him hell pussy out.

damn dude this is football here, you should know to play dirty? i know the kids on my football team do.

shit i play soccer and every game me or some other kid (since we're the biggest on the team) go after the best player on the team and just smash him into the ground, take him out...something! you know, welcome to the game pussy...get used to it? my coaches encourage it. and i play fucking pussy ass soccer.

if we go up against a kid who is better than us, take out his knee. first and foremost, shit i've gotten so good at it i don't get called for it anymore. or the old elbow to the face while doing a "move" is great.

play dirty if a kid or team is better than you. or shit don't even play dirty, just put on some fucking big hits dude. throw your body at them. they'll start pussin out for balls in the middle or drop balls when they hear you coming.

don't worry about it dude, everyone plays bad once in a while. you were nervous, talk to your coach about it. he knows it was a mismatch man. and you just think it was all your fault, i can guarantee it wasn't all your fault man. head high young buck! lawlzzz

You of all people, being a skier, should know that taking someones knee is a low low blow. I don't care what sport it is. Playing dirty is one thing, going for the knees is another.

i should seeing as my knee is pretty fucked as it is. and i might of slightly tore something. but i think we're thinking of two different things. by taking out their knees, i mean like a leg sweep type of thing? not sure how else to explain it. not like a kick to the knee to end their damn career. i'm not talking THAT dirty. that's just fucked up.

Man to Man against tall recievers: A strategy guide by Jim Rogan

disclaimer= do what your coaches tell you first.

1) ok so when you are man against someone, first its good to know his speed. If he is slow to average-fast, man up on him. line up 1yd away and 1 yard inside turned towards him. Hit him off the line and dont let him have the inside, force him out. if he does get inside of you, drive him there and knock his ass to the ground. if he takes an outside release jam him and stay in front, he can only run as fast as you let him. always keep an elbow on him. if he is fast line up 5-7 yards away, again inside. back pedal until he reaches you then turn and run with him, staying in front.

2) dont look for the ball until he does

3) when he looks, you can look.

4)if the quarterback is just tossing it up like you said, let him jump first. As he reaches his peak you go up too ripping through where the ball is. hell, if you can jump high enough, put the top of your helmet into his chin, not many people will hold onto a ball after that.

5) if you are not in position to make the play in step 4, wrap his legs while he is in the air and drive him to the ground, or just throw yourself into him. basically try to fuck him up.

hope it helps

Like what grade or how many years playing football.
