goddammit people if you actually read the thread my opinion changed quite a bit.

Park skiing is awesome, I'm not trying to call it out at all.

It's the people that are just stupid about how they think they're such a good skier. If I were a good skier, I could ski the park well. I can't do rails well, so I don't consider myself a good skier. Tanner hall is a crazy good skier. And seth can do BC freestyle, so he kicks ass too. His technical skill is better than anyone on the site.

If your technical skill in one area is SOO good that it totally overshadows any other discipline, then that means that you are a good skier. Park rats like the olenick brothers can even rip it in the BC (watch Tangerine Dream). Eric Pollard, fucking good everywhere.

Don't take what I'm saying wrong, the EC skiers who don't have any powder or steeps don't have a choice in what they ski. I'm sorry for you guys.

shut up, the only reason you changed your opinion is because everyone told you how wrong you are, get a backbone. Unless your a pro(which I highly doubt) who the fuck are you to judge people and tell them what the definition of good skiing really is. This thread is pointless and on that note its over.
 
Ok well that can thorw the most steeziest tricks is good for u. But the media section is for posting ur thing. Ppl are proud for what they did and they want to show us. Some for respect others for fame etc... U got to respect that. If u dont like that go to another site. This is a site for all kind of skiers not only pro's like u...

You can ball yourself or break an arm, you can't really kill yourself in a park unless you're not wearing a helmet.

I still say that you're not a good skier OF EVERYTHING unless you can hit steep stuff.

Again, this excludes people who don't have steep stuff at their mountain.
 
the thread is stupid..but IMO if you only ski park your not a skier.anybody can throw themself off a jump and spin/flip. it takes true skill and talent to rip a big mountain line.

and can people please stop confusing freestyle and freekskiing?
 
people who only ski park can be amazing skiers but its a whole lot less likely. racing, backcountry, moguls and anything else you want to do on skis will all help youperform better in the park. All the best freestyle skiers can rip up the whole mountain and most of them raced gates at some point in their lives, this isnt a coincidence. But if you wanna stay in the park thats nothing to do with anyone else.
 
Also to depierre ar5 said that a helmet won't save your life is talking shit, I knew a guy who always wore a helmet, towards the end of the season when it was sunny one day he wore a cap and sunglasses instead and he caught an edge in shit snow hit his head on a rock and died. The doctors said that a helmet would have saved his life, don't think your cool by not wearing one cos last time i checked coffins were out of style
 
depends how fast he was going.

people have died jsut from slipping and hitting their head on ice WITH a helmet on, so dont act like you know everything.

a helmet will save you from injuries, but theres a certain point where helmet cant and wont do shit for you. your going off one incident. studies go off of thousands.
 
are you kidding me buddy, there are actually a decent amount over steeps on the east coast, maybe not chest deep pow, but come on, ever heard of tuckerman's ravine, even stowe and gore have some steep stuff
 
to the thread starter: it's a lot easier to brag on the internet about a 7 than nice turns. and words can only begin to describe things like an epic pow day. so fuck off.
 
i have no problem whatsoever with park rats claiming to be good skiers. They're goood at what they do. It's like racers claiming to be good skiers, even though most prefer not to shred the av debris. But damnit, don't claim to be a great all-around skier if you can't hack the entire mountain.

And don't go claiming that one area of skiing is harder than another unless you're really fucking good in both areas.

personally, i've won my fair share of slopestyle comps, and i'm a pretty good park skier; but i'm a much better big mountian skier. I'd like to claim that big mountain is harder, but i haven't put in enough time really training hard in the park to know.
 
what if you live on the east coast and ski at an area that has no big mountain or backcountry, no steep stuff, and is only known for a good park?

Skiing is a large sport with many different aspects so can you really say that because a person has specialized in once aspect they aren’t a good skier?? IF we look at soccer would you say that Mia Hamm isn’t a good soccer player because she only play offence and no defense?? Or baseball would you say that Babe Ruth wasn’t a good player because he only pitched and hit because that is what he was best at??? See big mountain, racing, park, moguls all are different kinds of skiing, and all a park rat is a person who specialized in park it sounds like you specialized in big mountain and your bitter because it sounds like you can’t ski park.
 
Why would you ever say you are sick of other types of skiers and then not expect an argument? This site contains every type of skier from the 13 year old park rat to the 30 year old big mountain skier. Whatever you do on skis is respectable, we all have o learn new things sometime and when we do we get excited and want to tell veryone. When you land your first 540 you know your not going to get sponsored but you still want to tell everyone about your progression.

Some kids sit on this site all day because they cant stop thinking about skiing. They create threads with whatever questions cross their little minds.

You my friend are a douche. You are the reason i ride with snowboarders and wear snowboarding clothing. I dont want people to assume i am a prick like you. Quit hating on skiing in whatever form and just enjoy it.

same here. im 16th in the nation for sl in my age and ya i still race, and i can ski park and pow better than ne of the kids on my mtn's freestyle team. and the park teams at most of the mountains in tahoe. and they talk so much shit to me if im racing that day. and then i go show them up in the park. the funnest thing me and my friend would do was wear our speedsuits and go in the park and do all these old school tricks of like the 50ftrs and then wen theyr laughin and makin fun of us wed jsut go do some gnarly rail or somtin huge of one of the jumps. haha good times
 
Park rats are good skiers at skiing park. Big mountain riders are good skiers at skiing on big mountains. Racers are ggod skiers at racing. Just like park skaters are good at skating park. Vert skaters are good at vert. And dudes who skate downtown are good a street.
