Making 8 dollars an hour including tips now, missing out on skiing, fuck this shit. Hype me up so I don’t change my mind
 
bro come to door county in wisconsin tons of places are begging for help because of the lack of j1 visas. even with them they beg for help. but places pay super well . you could make like 13-14 an hour just dishwashing. plus the place is beautiful

Bussing tables at a restaurant. I get a $5 base pay then tips and i was making like $17 an hour over the summer but shit sucks now

If you ski all winter and work in the summer you can do it. You won’t think back at it and think that it was a bad idea, you’ll remember the fun days of skiing.

I’ve skied more while working my instructor job then I ever have before, 9-10 am: morning laps before 10am group lesson, lunch on the lift lapping, done at 3, shred night skiing til 9. There’s a reason that I’m the best skier on the mountain.
 
If you like people and kids, go be a coach at a place that has a full-day ski school for kids. I loved my time coaching, and on an average day would get about $25 in tips, in addition to their hourly rate. Plus you're on snow every day, just keep a positive mindset and you'll get the good lessons in no time.

this kid is definitely in high school haha you can't just quit your $8/hr job as an adult, seeing as you couldn't live on that wage but you'd probably need multiple jobs.

yeah i’m a hs senior, literally all I need money for is gas and car payments but I think I have enough saved to get me through winter

I worked as a liftie when I was a sr in HS, i graduated early (january) so i worked weekends until then and was working 4 days a week at the resort, got to ski a ton.

Hell yeah! In that case I fully support quitting that whack job to go skiing.

Look into community college for next year. Student jobs at the colleges here pay better than what you make and mostly they will let you pick your own schedule to work around school and the rest of your life
 
Skiing isnt cheap either. Gotta make money to spend money. If you have a goal of saving X amount so you can chill for Y time then that's totally fine. Quitting to burn cash without a plan could be a mistake though.
 
Become a fisherman. 40$/h with benefits and seasonal work. Fuck dead end, illegal wage, grind jobs. Life is too short for that.
 
Wtf kinda fishing boat do you work on that has benefits and isn’t a “dead end, illegal wage, grind job”? I’m a deckhand in the summer and while I love that shit almost as much as I love skiing, it admittedly hits all of those boxes pretty much.

I work on these monsters. Im the engineering officer. Full benefits, pension, work 6 months and male 70,000$ a year. It was 4 year school program and 5 years of training to get good at it. In the coming years, im due to get promoted to senion and be trained as a chief engineer. These guys make 150,000$ for 8 months work.

Damn yeah I work on a couple different boats in California during the season, doing charters and commercial trips mainly for tuna. Super super fun stuff but they certainly work us to death through 20+ hour days all for a little pocket change under the table. Still fun as hell though, just can’t see myself still doing it in 15 years. Here’s the current sled though.

I have a buddy working the trollers and catch n process boats as the chief engineer. He told me it was like a drug run; dangerous weather, 16hr days, no spare parts, the smell... but the pay is unreal; he claims to make 10G a month net.

I did a research vessel and got rocked to fuck. It was painful, but I was told fishing is harder.

Pretty much haha. I’ve got friends working the jack pole boats in Washington for commercial albacore and gill net boats in Alaska... that shit is gnarly
 
Enjoy it when you're young and don't have many responsibilities, but also dont blow-off any opportunities to set you up with a career maybe in the process. You never know what happens. I know dudes who moved out west when they were young like you did, found a sweet job that they ended up being passionate about like maybe a trade or something else, worked it a bunch, and yeah, now make great $$$$, work 6 months out of the year max, and ski the rest and can still pay their bills.

I guess what im saying is while it does sound cool, you dont want to end up being like 30 years old and washing dishes or some shit in a ski town barely able to make rent, have to work other jobs and stuff, cuz you wont be skiing everyday at all, I can guarantee that
