That was regarding the superpipe comp last year at snoqualmie. And of course, only like 8 people showed up.

So needless to say, there is not even a small, same-day-as-boarders, skier division. Fuckin snowskaters get to do it, but not skiers. So now, in the state, there is only one quality ski competition during the winter months and that is Mamafest. There are no pipe comps, big airs, rail jams, nothing. Just one slopestyle and the occasional "maybe we'll let some skiers do it" comps. Woohoo

so skiing while its becoming more and more popular is being less and respected by the snowboarers, I sense maybe a little jealousy and fear? or maybe Krush is just being a douchebag

if competing is your thing than you really shouldn't live here. the prizes are half as good as the snowboarders, when they have them at all. the park scene for skiers is just not as big here as a dozen other places.
 
well obviously since i go to school here, grew up here, etc, its really easy to move away, especially since all i care about is competitions, which should obviously dictate my skiing.

A bit synical, however, thats not the issue. There has been a time when skiers, still not receiving a good amount of recognition, were getting great prizes and the ability to compete in competitions at many mountains. One such year, stevens hosted a slopestyle, and 1st place was $1000, snoqualmie held a slopestyle, and even on a rainy day they gave out $500 for first. In that same year there were something like 2 other slopestyles, plus some various other competitions, as well as two pipe competitions (and considering there were only two pipes, thats saying a lot). It wasnt ideal, nor were the parks better, but the potential was there.

But since that time, most people just don't do comps, and so why should there be any reason for skiers to compete? What is most unfortunate now is it will be damn near impossible for there to be any reason to hold skier competitions, now that they are dwindling away. Snowboarders, even if they fucking suck, turn out. Most rail competitions host around like 60 people. There are more snowboarders in the park than skiers, but proportionally, there shouldn't be like 10 people showing up. When people actually turned out, the comps were there and were hooking it up for the most part.

But it doesnt just extend to competitions. I suppose the treatment of skiers in the park correlates to the competition scene. What do I mean by that? The parks become increasingly tailored to boarders, despite a rapidly blowing up sport/lifestyle, what have you, of freeskiing. If people don't give a damn about them (the mountains), they won't give a damn about us. And since the two main parks in the state are run/influenced primarily by boarders, they wont have any reason to look to skiing, even though most of us ride with them on a daily basis, or the sort.

It's the principle more than anything.

But is it going to stop at comps??? what happens when the park at snoqualmie is designed and maintained for snowboarders and snowskaters? Ride on rails... stupid mini hips and spines... jumps with no pop and even flatter landings...

Gonna make things pretty dull and frustrating when there's no freshies at schralpental

I've always had fun at comps, since my first one at snoqulmie where I got almost last place and afterwards knocked my teeth out by smashing my face on a box, I still had a good time because I got to meet new people.
 
for me (and probably sean) comps just aren't worth it. why pay upwards of $20 to stand around the majority of the day and wait till its your turn. you pay all that money and stand there and then don't place and don't get anything in return because you're not one of the best skiers there. sure you may meet new people, but you can do that outside of comps. i'd rather have fun skiing all day than standing and waiting till it was my turn.

and yes it would be a horrible thing if the park started being tailored towards snowskaters like chris said, but i can't see that ever becoming a huge issue. there are plenty of good skiers and snowboarders that would complain too much if it just turned into a huge snowskate park.
 
I'm not sure I agree with you kevin, granted we never do comps, I imagine they're a lot of fun. What do you think autox is? Same thing, pay your money, stand around most of the time, and get a few runs in.

that being said, autox is much cheaper, and more fun, and it doesn't matter who its designed for, its just cones.
 
but its not like you can go pay normally anywhere else and just go drive like that. where as we could just use our season passes and go ski park without being in a competition.

if there weren't legal and safety issues involved in driving on the road like you would in autocross i wouldn't do autocross.
 
rain city was my first comp and it was alot of fun, i wish there were more railjams and slopestyles with skiing as a category. forreal.
 
Kev for me a comp is a nice challenge. you see when I'm just out skiing for fun I'm not trying to do the sickest most out of control run that is within my ability to do. Like If I'm just making laps and hitting the pipe, I'm not trying to spin every hit and go as big as I can and link together a crazy ass run. Whereas in a contest enviroment, that's exactly what I'm trying to do

I dont do comps because I suck. And because pow > park any day. Now, if there was a BC comp at Stevens for best line off of cowboy... hot damn, I'd be on that like Oedipus on his mom.

umm, Oedipus kills his father at the beginning of the story, without knowing, then finds out at the end, when his mother and wife kills herself.
 
your execution is good, but you need work on your extention. that's where i would dominate. they would need to make a jump that shoots you nice and far, but little air, kinda step down style.

Yeah, but it got good for him in a little while, right? I mean, he got to bang a hot chick (which means banging snow for the NW, follow me here...). But then later, he had to gauge his eyes out (what we all do anyways when we see the snow melt in the spring). So I figure things will be alright soon. They better be.
 
lets just say krush is all up on the think thank crews dicks....the shit they do isn't snowboarding so i called them out on it. shaw me and shawn apparently are banned from comps forever. and can't buy passes next year. moral of the story think thank is even gayer now.
