Im moving to Rochester

I will be moving to Rochester NY in December. Does anyone here live there and where should I ski? Any info on the area would be nice.

i live in buffalo which isnt far away and rochester isnt a bad place to live the city inst terrible but the place you gonna wanna ski at is bristol which is like an hour or so south of there real good skiing for the area there hope this helps man

Rochester is sweet you can get garbage plates and you can also get shot, sometimes you get both at the same time. I moved to summit county. roch is fun but not for skiing. FYI you'll want to ride at bristol.

the R-O-C is full of garbage plates, drunks, sketchy people, but in general a pretty nice city...... very underrated in my opinion. Fairly clean and pretty cheap to live here. Bristol isnt bad either which is like 40 min south. www.bristolmt.com
 
Decent city, but keep your wits about you. Bristol seems to be the ticket for riding around here. I'm going to school here, just got here over the summer so I'm kinda new though.

Seriously though be careful, there are parts of the city you DO NOT want to be in. I also carry a knife everywhere since I've moved here. There's nothing to be said about bringing a knife to a gun fight, but I feel better nonetheless.

I'm about 30 mins from Rochester, but I go there often. It's not really a bad city, but it's quite scary, so definitely bring a knife for protection (not even kidding). You're gonna want to ski at Bristol because it's the closest/best mountain and there's a bunch of friendly locals there that are also on NS (me being one of them). I'll send you an invite to the bristol cult too.
 
^Yep. What he said. Rochester is surprisingly pretty ghetto, a lot of crime...I would know, my mom is a stenographer. Bristol is your best bet if your looking for a mountain with a good base, one of the better parks around (even though it could be set up much, much better) and just has a little more vertical than other mountains. It's also the closest. Bristol rates are pretty steep, a seasons pass is around $500 something.
 
Well a lot of people are asking exactly where I am moving to and it's Pittsford Rochester. I had no idea theres a high crime rate, i checked the place out a couple weeks ago and it seemed really nice, clean and inviting i guess.

Oh well i think I am going to McQuaid high shchool, if anybody goes there tell me! I'm in 11 grade so ya.
 
Pittsford on the other hand is wayy different. Pittsford is the "rich suburb" of rochester, you have nothing to worry about. And I know plenty of kids from McQuaid, and I play them every year in lacrosse, it's always a good game.
 
I don't know any skiers from Pitt, but I know of a bunch that are in the bristol group on facebook from mcquaid.
 
Yeah, we're talking about in the actually heart/city of Rochester. You must be a wealthy dude...going to McQuaid and living in Pittsford. Right near Pittsford (like 5-10 mins) is Penfield. Thats where I live...but a bunch of kids in the Bristol Cult live in Canadaguia and fairly close to Bristol. Pittsford is a dope little town, it'll get boring eventually though.
 
lol Pittsford, yeah dude, totally not Rochester.........wealthy suburb, really nice, everything you need....McQuaid is like a half mile from me (i go to U of Roch).....

hahahaha yeah dude pittsford isn't rochester. it's pittsford. You're moving to yuppieville. Enjoy waking up in your million dollar house and going to all the privatly owned business' it's very nice. Just go to Ave. D for your fix of rochester.
 
Hey man i go to the University of Rochester Pittsford is a really nice area but watch out if you are in the city ... Bristol mountain is probably where you are going to be doing most of your skiing
 
to thompson who says he doesnt know any piitsford skiers. right here brah. pittsford represent. but yeah in the city it can get scary in soome places. were the original 10 mafia cities in ny wohoo! and yeah your going to want to ski at bristol. it has a pretty nice park for western NY, very nice actually. get ready for garbage plates, and getting sunburn and frostbite in the same week.
 
Bahahahah holy fuck yeah. Poughkeepsie is the slightly-more-urban-eastern-NY version of Pittsford.

Pittsford is pimp, you'll have no problems. Pittsford is totally removed from the city, nice place. The inner city is the only place you really have to worry about, anything that's like 5 miles removed from the Inner Loop is pretty much safe. And inside that radius there's certain sweet parts, like where I live up in the Park Ave district. Other areas are shady, but whatev.
 
My mom works at RIT, she works with students financial shit. I get to go there for free too so I dont have to pay the 40,000 dollars.

And for the thread maker I ski at Bristol and its ok. Its a pretty far drive from Rochester but it could be worth it im not sure.
 
Yeah deffintly I didnt realize you lived in Pittsford when I posted. You deffintly dont have to worry about the city if your only in 11th grade and your not really near it. AND YOU GET TO SKI WITH ALL THE COOL BRISTOL KIDS YAY!!!!!

Wow apparently we have a bunch of NS'ers in the Rochnasty area..... I'm feelin' a shredfest coming on when the snow starts flying........
 
well syracuse is only an hour away.  you can always go shred the pow pow over there.  and by pow pow i mean icy sixty second runs with decent parks.
 
yo i ski bristol too man i live like 45 minutes from rochester my mom works nearby. its not that bad. im gonna wear a white and black striped siver jacket and purple pants this year. come say whats up if u see me at bristol ill be there a lot.
 
I'm from syracuse... rochester's got the highest rate of car theft/break ins in the state... more than nyc i think, so watch out for that. as far as skiing, go to bristol
 
Yea, Pittsford is a stupid rich area. I was at Pittsford-Mendon high school once, and it's nicer than some colleges man. To ski, yep, it's Bristol over there. but that's about it for a decent drive, unless you want to go to the Adirondacks for a weekend trip or something.
 
i'm in penfield and where i own some property theres this hugeeee dirt hill with probably 150' vertical, not even kidding.

i only got one rail but a sesh there would be sweet, too bad nobody else lives near us :(
 
Steer clear of Avenue D

Bristol is definently the place to ski in the area, downtown rochester has many urban options if they get enough snow.

U of R has some ill parties

Trash plates and Wegmans are the HUGE plusses about this area
 
penfield is really close to penfield..the huge dirt pile is where there doing some construction on the corner or baird and atlantic ave....theres a barn right across from it.

Penfield is SUPER close to Penfield.
