I have to write it in the next 10 days. It's going to talk about how skiing has changed my life, and taught me lessons that I never expected. What do you guys think? Is it risky? Anyone done it?
i did a presentation my first year in college on the history of skiing, where at has come from and where is it going. I talked about the progression and all that shit. The best part was when showed the intro to Forward. Everyone in the class was like WTF are they doing JUMPS RAILS???!!?
I'm in the middle of writing my essay too. Skiing could probably be a really good topic. If its due in less than 10 days, you are probably appolying early. Where to?
The essay I'm thinking is going to be mainly, how freestyle skiing has changed my life because it has taught me discipline, hard work, commitment, and appreciation.
Definetly don't write you college apps on skiing, guranteed on you not getting into good schools. It makes you look like a lazy fucktard. My college apps papers were on skiing and surfing and I didn't got into into only mediocre schools.
The topic of an essay such as the one you're writing shouldn't be that large of a factor, if you write impressively. If you make your essay engaging and interesting without being dull, or any major errors, you don't need to worry about "looking lazy".
you're right I think. 1 question they asked me for NYU was "what's ur average sunday" im not going to be bullshitting. i wake up at 12:30. i make it comical and interesting. i say how i make a big bowl of cereal. watch t.v. do some hw. watch football. i can be productive and engaging without being president of spanish club and give my sunday to the homeless.
I'm applying to some really good schools. Luckily, I'm being recruited for track and field which is really sweet cause i love it, and I have good test scores and grades. Smarts run in the family luckily. Im applying to Princeton, Dartmouth, Williams, Lafayette, Bucknell, and Middlebury. Im writing my essay about how i got cut from the tennis team frosh year and then i came back my soph and junior year and ran track and it became my best sport. Im not applying early anywhere though.
I have a book "50 Best Essays" it's written by Harvard and it's the kind of essays they are looking for and there is one in there on skiing. so in the fact that harvard is the number one school...i would say yes good topic.
I did a 6 minute college speech just on skiing and got a 98 on it. I say go for it. Just try not to blather on about the sam ethings over and over. Make your points and support them.
Mine was written on how I had to work harder academically for me to be able to be gone from school at competitions and such. I thought it was shitt, but it got me into all the schools I applied to.
I have done tons of college papers and presentations on skiing and resorts. I just finished a presentation on the freeride progression of skiing in the last 10 years and I showed the opening clip from X=10 as a closeing.
i wrote about skiing for my essay. i wrote about how i skied with disabled people and how it taught me a lot. i'm applying to uvm, unh, uconn, umass amherst, boulder, utah, lehigh, colorado college, johnson state, and castleton state so far. i might apply to a few more schools.
ahhh that reminds me of a great one.....about 8ish years ago in powder magazine..the life of a dirtbag skibum. it changed my life!!!!!!!!! it was a college essay about 6 years of dirt baggin
my main essay is talking about film for NYU, and getting cut from baseball to play volleyball. but NYU also has an added essay which is max of 4 pages. im only sending in my ski one to NYU because the others im doing volleyball and such. thanks for those who support. and those who don't.. well you can't please them all. thanks for the criticism.
As long as your essay is written well and displays your interests it will do well. They are looking for individual students who will standout from the crowd. Even ust writing why you love skiing and how motivated you are about it would do very well. Just make it intresting and show that you really feel strongly about the topic is key.
i think someone should write one about why they're better than everyone else. sounds like something a person trying to get into an ivy league school would do, or many members of newschoolers.
I hope you weren't talking to me. If you were you should check who you are talking to before you open your mouth. Do the research buddy, your probobally not even 20 yet.
