Three weeks this summer I get to go for free! I go to the Air Force Academy so I get to go check out AF operations and fly around in jets, then I get to hit the town for the rest of the day. I am so excited. Where should I go? I am on the southern end and unfortunately I won't be skiing since it will be summer. I'm stoked, I'm going to buy a million iPhones and sell them there.

I was there a few years ago to visit some of my family. It was sooo awesome. If you are in Tokyo you need to check out the Gaza Strip I think it's called as well as Akihabara, the video game capital of the world. Also hop on a bullet train to niko to see some of the temples there. Awesome trip.

If you're in Tokyo go to Shibuya for sure. The scramble crossing right off the train station is fucking mind blowing. Also, the world's busiest Starbucks is right there.

Akihabara is sweet too, but kind of sketch if you're not into anime. I felt so goddamn out of place wandering around there. They did have a 8 story porn shop though.

It sounds sick, I will be near Tokyo too. I am there for 3 weeks so I will have a bit of time to travel around as well. Is there anywhere with a good beach or anything for a chill out day?

I'm NROTC and spent a few weeks last summer on a foreign exchange cruise with the Japanese Navy. Good times. If you're in the Tokyo area hanging out with American military officers, you're pretty much guaranteed to go to Rappungi (sp?). You have to get sushi (obviously) and if you really want the Japan experience, go to the fish market in Tokyo and have maguro don at 0600. I'd also check out the Ueno area, maybe Asakusa too. And Kamekura is a cool little town.

If you get a chance, hang out with Japanese military personnel. They'll obviously know where stuff is and also, there's a lot of little bars that won't let Americans in unless they're with Japanese (weird, I know). So yeah, hang out with locals if you can.

I think there are a lot of nice beaches/surf spots in the Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures. chiba is east of tokyo and kanagawa is south

I've mentioned my trip about a billion times already but I'm really stoked.. ahaha.. yes

I'll be living in tokyo (shinagawa) in july for a month and going to school in meguro.

I'm also looking for a nice/pretty seaside town on the east coast (fukujima, ibaraki, chiba? etc) where I can stay before I go to tokyo... suggestions?? a small town is ok.

I'm leaving in 15 days!

how is it? mushiatsui (humid)?

also did you get a JR pass before you left? I'm thinking about getting one

just an fyi the gaza strip is a piece of land in the middle east that the palistinians and isrealies fight over constantly

not a tourist friendly place

i have a buddy there now, and all i hear are positive things, so be prepared to ENJOY yourself!

When I was 16 I live in Tokyo for a month. I never got turned down from a 20+ club flashing my passport which clearly said I was 16 and had a picture taken when i was 13. Being white is basically a free pass.

your right. too bad im not white, all my friends i went to japan with got booze and cigs very easilyy!!!!

but yeah make sure to go to akihabara (not as cool as before, sadly)

there are some indoor skiing places in tokyo area with small jumps(up to 5 meters) so 15-20 feet, rail/boxes. Go to Ochanomizu!!!! next to akihabara, even in the summer youll be amazed there are store after store bunch of ski/board stores and be prepared to amazed with the collection of outerwear they have. they have a ton basically. -prices on goods can be good or bad deal so look around, outerwear didnt seem to much, goggles cost a lot. there are a lot other sports stores too. Ask stores about the indoor skiing.

make sure to take a picture with a bunch of japanese school girls lol

im gonna miss not going to japan this summer

make sure to eat a lot of food, best in the world, ramen, ma-po-to-fu, so-men, soba, udon, tempura, RAMEN again, gyoza, gyu-don, candy, and soooooooo much more. Get kara age (fried chicken, but soooo good) you can buy em at like 7/11 and stuff... so basically. the food will be good. and now i really, really want to eat it.

i cant go to japan till next winter... im sooo sad!!!!

anyways have fun.

checking out the shrines and stuff will be pretty chill to i guess. Its all a good experience.

p.s. go to Donkey Hoten

dude, i dont know if you watch ninja warrior, but if u are a fan, they have this place called muscle gym and it has an exact replica of the course open to the public.

I just got back on monday from two weeks in japan. it was the most amazing thing. such a dope culture. we stayed mostly in tokyo, and took trips to hiroshima, kyoto and osaka. if you're in kyoto i would definitely recommend taking a tour of all the historic sites. it is absolutely incredible and in tokyo make sure you hang out in shibuya, harajuku and shinjuku.

hey I'm really sorry to bring this up again,

but does anyone know of any cool ski shops in tokyo? there is a new japanese ski movie out and I want to see if I can pick up a copy. kthx.
