Im going to Cancun?

so apparently my mom booked my family to stay at the Riu in cancun for an all inclusive vacation. i was suprised because we usually don't do anything after christmas, and she just told us a few days ago. i'd prefer a nice ski vacation, but since my sister was in NZ for all of our summer, and then came back for our winter, she didn't really get time this year to have nice warm weather and beaches.

after my mom told me about all the stuff there is, and just exactly what all inclusive means, i started getting a little more excited. i read some reviews on numerous sites about the hotel, and it seems like it's a real nice place. the only thing im "hesistant" about is being by myself. my mom is gonna be meeting up with friend thats also staying in cancun, and my two sisters will stay with each other, so that leaves me solo.

i'll let you know now that im a pretty shy person, and my real personality doesn't come out until i get to know someone. if i had a friend with me i'd definately be more likely to wanna meet up with new people and stuff, but im worried im just gonna be stuck getting burnt to a crisp at the beach by myself, or like sitting in the hotel room.

i guess all im looking for from this thread is advice. i've never been to cancun before, so i honestly don't know anything or any of the clubs or places to go. i'm 17 but i know getting drinks or into clubs won't be a problem, so if anyone's ever been there or just has advice on stuff to do that'd be awesome. as i think more about going there i'm getting more excited because for the first time in my life im actually getting stressed about school and work and stuff, so this should be a great getaway.

so yea it took me like 3 paragraphs just to get to my question - any advice for going to cancun? gracias
 
when i went to cancun it was with my gf and family and i kinda wish it was with like a few good guy friends. There is alcohol everywhere and that should loosen you up, i would just look for kids that you think are in your situation around the resort and team up and then go out. where are you staying?
 
thats sick man, if i were you (im pretty shy also til you know me) i would just say fuck it and not worry about meeting new people. i would just get a few drinks in me at some clubs and go up to groups of people who look like they are in the same spot as you...just kids on vacation looking for something to do. thats all you can really do is find kids to hang out with and party with. either way its gonna be a good time, you are allowed to drink and go to clubs man how can you not have fun?
 
i'm staying at the Riu Cancun. hotel looks so sick and tons of stuff is included. im hoping to go into this vacation like i did on my cruises, thinking that im never gonna see any of these people again, so just relax and have fun.

the only other thing i didn't know about was age groups. it seems like there's gonna be a lot of like 25-30's people in the clubs and stuff, and it might just be awkward for me. i'll defintately look around and try to find other kids in my situation though like you guys recommended, and try to possibly get a little crew or something. same thing really happened on my cruise, but i had a friend to start out with so it was a little easier.

alot of college kids, it gets crazy, like overly so.
i went last march, and its pretty rediculous. getting drinks isnt much of a problem, but its still pretty expensive. i dont know if you have the ability to get drinks at the hotel your at, but ask your parents if its ok with them if you can be 18 while youre there, it makes everything so much easier.

other than that, its always nice weather and extremely fun with friends. if youre bored of the beach, take a day trip to the ruins about an hour away. generally pretty cool but i got bored. oh and go swimmin in the cinotes, underwater caves taht are fresh water
 
get the adult color wristband when you get to the resort, then you get alcohol inclusive. I'm sure you will meet some pretty chill people, when I was there other people my age just seemed to find each other and chill.
 
yea i already am getting alcohol/all drinks inclusive. i guess my mom just assumed since i have no one there going with me, i might as well be able to drink. i definately wanna try seeing some other places in cancun other than the beach, even if it is kind of lame. i just can't stay at the beach all day and sit there cause i burn so bad, and i get bored unless im wind surfing or something.
 
I can be the same way and if I have a friend there I'll meet a lot more people faster. anyway, just think that you'll never see the people there again unless you actually get to know them so why does it matter what they think of you? and don't meet someone who doesn't really care about meeting more people or is an oddball. whenever that happens they'll just hold you back from finding a bunch of people to hang with. good luck, have fun.
 
if you get the chance, i would highly reccomend checking out tulum, which is just a little ways south of cancun, down the carribean coast. there are really cool ruins overlooking the sea, and super nice beaches. also, from cancun, you can take a ferry out to isla mujeres, a cool island, where you can rent a moped and cruise around, or there is also nice snorkelling at the southern end of the island. otherwise just wander around the town, try to find non-gringo areas, try to get a real taste of mexico. i love it down there.
 
booofuckinwhoo to your sister...bet like every1 here wouuld die to be in NZ summer and US winter....soooo fuck Cancun...got fucked up there
 
yeah, go to tulum. I've been and it's pretty cool. just bring lots of water, an older man passed out while we were there because of the heat. it was pretty freaky, just collapsed. he was alright though in the end with some shade and liquids.
 
ugh its always hot there and everyone is sweating all the time and rubbign their bodies together. yuck. oh have fun tho and look out for stds.
 
tell yourself you probably will never see any of the people again . its a perfect opportunity for you to see that going bat shit crazy can be fun. with ABSOLUTELY no consequences whatsoever. go wild , it can be a pretty good experiment .

i was going to say just that, its fucking hot. and you go on bike tours too so your biking through jungle roads and highways that were used by the mayans.

and if you get he chance, swim in the 'cinotes' they are the only source of water on the yucatan besides the ocean. its pretty sick, just holes in the ground in limestone were these enormous underground caves and tunnels have formed. its incredible. there are 35 foot stelagtics and stelagmics. i fucked up the spelling sorry. but its crazy, its snorkeling in underwater caves in the dark. def check that out.
 
trip report coming soon with a few pics. trip was epic but i barely took any pics, so i'll have to rely on my writing skills to hopefully let everyone get a little insight on how nice it was.
