wellll.... they are so incredibly matted... like the back of my head is one big dread.... that whenever i wash them... the water never dries and they mildew... and my hair smells like ass.... so just as fucking soon as my hair gets to be 3 inches long... il start the little bastards again...

DON'T DO IT. REALLY TRUST ME. I spent the summer in MV so by fall my hair was a matted mess with sea salt and other water foul along with an unlimited supply of sand in it. So okay, I get home and I am too lazy to shape my babies back up. Mind you prior to the summer I had some pretty gloriouis dreads, anyways I cut them off. Now I have a mullet and I have to cry myself to sleep when I think about how ugly I have become without my dreads. And this is no overexageration. I live a life of no regrets but uhhh if I didn't I sure as hell would regret doing that. I am getting dreads as soon as my hair is longer, maybe even right after the holidays.

dreads are yucky. i have never seen a broad with dreadlocks that i thought was attractive, mostly because its usually rather filthy

ughhhh... my friend has dreads like that. cut them. there in nothing attravtive about dreads that are always wet and rank. i cut mine off last summer and i don't miss them too much. for a hair style that screams laziness they are far too much work.

dreds arnt Nessicarily dirty..but they look dirty. plus I have never seen a good looking woman with dreds. most of them are punk or goth. looks awfull. as for the dirtiness, if they stink then cut them.

u get them by backcombing your hair. and if you take care of them, they wont be dirty. just like any other persons hair.

I would just dry my dreads, taking showers never was a problem but sometimes when I would be swimming they would get really soaked and I would have to blow dry them but they definitely weren't mildewy or anything like that but I'm sure that could happen-- I had pretty thin dreads like jon said the size of like a sharpie. Swimming is the worst though, your hair get soooo heavy I would always get like a sore neck after going to the beach (which I did every day all summer) haha.

Clean dreads are good. Dirty dreads are bad and, from what I know, hard to clean. So yeah, cut em off. And if you can dread your 'hair down there', you've got some serious issues.

yeah i had them for 5 years... so they were really matted... i couldnt just dry them.... i would wring them out and sometimes blowdry them... but its not possible to get them completely dry for me... they were huge... i had about 6 or 7 dreads on my head...

and tahoefreerider you dont need to be such a bitch all the time... im not tryin to start shit... just calm the fuck down...

Whoa those are some huge dreads, my friend Rory has 19 and they are wicked fat. I had 51 when I had mine still... I miss them dearly. Oh well I am probably going to dread them sometime this week.

ive had mine for like 3 weeks now and im loving them. Some jocks at school threw food at me though so that could be a downside. I like them a lot and hope to keep them for a long time

If you are going to have really dreaded dreads than yes in most cases you have to cut them off. Or as your hair continues to grow, don't dread the hair (tha'ts growing in) and then when you cut your hair you won't be sporting crew cut or anything. Some people have really fine hair and can sometime brush dreads out but generally you have to cut them.

Dreads can be hot and can be nasty. Really depends on how well the person takes care of them. I personally think they are awesome when well taken care of. I would even consider get some myself If I knew I cared enough to properly take care of them.

I have dreads since 6 month and I can tell you that they don't smell bad, I wash my hair like anybody who doesn't have dreaded hair... It's not true that all dreads are dirty, yes some people don't wash them and it can stink but if you wash it, their will be no problem.. Since I have it, nobody have ever told me I was looking dirty. The fact is that dread is not a lazy style, the reality is that you have to palm roll each dread and wax them very often. When I got my dreads, I was very suprised to learn that I spend more time on my dreads that on my previous hair. I know that all of you have your own opinion but stop saying that all dread are dirty, smell bad, and that are a lazy style. Stop to associate dreads to punks, hippies and all those style, some prepies and clean people can decide, because that find dreads cool and nice, ( because yes, dread can be beautifull) to dread their hair. If you take care of them, they wont be dirty. just like any other persons hair. I am sure that my dreaded hair are more clean than the mojority of the hair of persons who talk shit about this hairstyle. Dreads are only knots that have been formed with backcombed hair. This hairstyle is very bad know… there is a lot of false rumor about them and fuck people who say dreads are nasty and smells bad when they do not know the truth about dreads. You have to have dreads, or to know someone with dreads to understand the truth about them, it’s far to be a lazy style,
