I'm converting to skiing

So, you guys finally got me with those dual sided skis ;D, I'm self teaching myself to ski, I'm ok right now. Any suggestions for some skis to get? I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep them for awhile and I'll use them for park eventually.

You should demo some and then decide. Personally I like the Rossi Scratch BC's. Ive get proforms for Salomon skis and I REALLY like the Teneighty Gun's so thats what I'll be gettin next year.

dude....if you really are teaching your self to ski....umm then just learn the basics before you even think about going into the park. Jumps, rails, and pipe are the shit....but most of these features need you to know how to control those skis. Pick up some old school skis, carving skis, anything cheep that can hold up. Then just go out and learn. Teaching yourself sucks, take some lessons man, it will help out in the end.

I can ski decently, I don't want to do park now its just I don't want to have to go buy new ones next year

buy some old scratch fs's or public enemies - both real easy to ski all over the mountain, and theyll be sweet in the park when you get around to it.

Stick with it bro.

dude those are deff NOT good choices for a newb id say go with something softer and lighter like a line invader or salomon thruster

skiing is ill

good for you

just word of advice

when using this site

any thread you make

search bar that shit first

or you will get raped

Thats not always true I started skiing two years ago and first year skiing I was throwin 540s on the big tables and shreddin the park.

No you fuckin assholes this is the thing I hate about newschoolers is little fuckin assholes like you who just love to talk shit about people cause it makes em feel good because they suck too. Suck my dick you fuckin assholes.

Jacobamf, here is what you need to know:

there are basically 3 types of twin-tip skis:

All-mountain: stiffer flex, thinner waist, bigger side cut, good performance all over the mountain. Some example are the Line Chronic, K2 Public Enemy, Ninthward First Blood, Dynastar Trouble Maker

Park: softer flex, fatter waist, bindings mounted closer to the center. These slide rails better and spin better because they are mounted in the middle, but the softer flex means when you take them outside the park they won't edge as well. Some examples are Line Invader/Anthem, K2 Fujative, Ninthward Butterliscious, Fischer Addict, Dynastar Nothin But Trouble

Powder: longer skis with fat waists and smaller side cuts. These will perform best in powder and in the backcountry, but on groomed runs they will feel too wide to turn well. Examples are Line Elizabeth, Rossi Scratch BC, K2 Seth, Dynastar Big Trouble, Ninthward 187, Armada JPvsJulian

So you basically need to think about where you will ski more. If you are learning and need skis that are well rounded, I suggest all-mountain skis. Also, if you live in the east coast where there is less powder, powder skis won't be a good choice. If you live in the west and love backcountry, go with a powder ski.

The other thing you need to think about is the core of the ski. All the ones I listed are wood cores (if i recall correctly) which will last a long time. The Salomon 1080 series are all foam cores. While foam is lighter and performs well, tiny cracks form in it every time it flexes and it will gradually get softer. You can only use foam cores for about 1 season.

So, for yor first pair, I reccomend you avoid Salomon because they are expensive and won't last. Also, Armada are very expensive although people seem to like them a lot. I reccomend Line skis for your first pair though, because they will last a long time and the price is better than the others. Go to all the ski companys' websites though, and look at the specs and reccomendations they make. Then go to www.getboards.com to find out the real prices. Be careful, a lot of the internet sites like to lie about the suggested price, then give you a fairly high price and tell you it is a sale. Getboards will give you the real deal. Good luck!

(oh, and if it helps, my first twins were Line Chronics and they changed my life)

no, there are four types of skis:

skinny soft- good for park and beginners. all about preferance

fat soft- good for a little of everything. some poeple prefer a fatter ski

skinny stiff- good for pipe and works in park. great for all mountain. good for more advanced skiers

fat stiff- the hardest to contol and are purely big mountain. some poeple use them in the park, but they are not made for this.

and everyone is doing the same tricks on different brands of skis, so preference is kinda an illusion. its not like armadas make you a better skier and nordicas make you worse. that doesnt mean its not all right to look steezy in armadas

jacobamf is so stupid i no u cant 12 you wont do a 20 foot table and u are asking about slutty girls

I snowboard, but ever since joining NS Im falling in love with skiing. I want to start/try skiing again, but I dont wanna go out and buy shit. I dont wanna use shitty rental stuff, either though. Maybe I can convince my friend to lemme try HIS shit. We'll see..

first of all if u snowboard y would u be on NS? I think u should just get some 1080's thrusters i agree are nice but if i was u id get K2 Public Enemys. Both are around 500. O wait just one sec ill go grab my FREESKIER buyers guide. OK, well since ur just begining id buy a pair of the cheaper ski. Theres a section in the mag that has the cheapest skis and here they are:

Scott P3 - $450

Armada Pipe Cleaner - $535

Armada T- Hall - $550

Fischer Addict - $650

Line Chronic - $550

Scott Mission - $650

Elan MO 2.2 double rail - $625

Rossignol Scratch FS - $600 ( i highly recomend not to get these :p)

Volkl Gotama - $795

No theres lots of cheaper skis just hit Untracked.com or getboards.com and you canget invaders for like 200 and most skis for about 300$ to 400$

hahaha, good one.

go get some atomic Izor's or SX:7's in either a 160 or 170 and learn to carve on those. i really learned how to ski well on the SX:7's b4 i did park and im happy i did.
