I'm camping out for Rocky

Like every past holiday seasons, there has always been a reason to camp out for something. This year is no different. I'll give you the rundown.

Forget camping out for Star Wars this year. Besides the fact that there isn't a new one this year, hanging out with multiple storm troopers and Boba Fett's was only cool after after the first comeback. Besides, you know that these guys didn't shower before getting there, and they sure as hell weren't going to shower until they were convinced that light sabers are not possible.

Forget camping out for Lord of the Rings! If I would have had to sit through how the movies didn't do the books justice when it's -5 degrees out, I don't know..... i just don't know what I would do... or have to do.

Forget camping out for the PS3. Unless it can find me 4 hours of freetime a day to play without my girlfriend nagging at me, it's of no use to me.

This year... I'm camping out for Rocky Balboa... Rocky 6... Rocky VI - to the Romans reading this.

16 years since Rocky IV. 30 years since the original! I know I'm not going to be the only one waiting to get a ticket.

I mean, the ultimate underdog story -- the ULTIMATE. This isn't like a Travolta comeback either. This is ROCKY! Stallone is like 60 years old too, he's the last of an era. He was the only other action hero besides Arnold to draw a crowd. Rambo... Cobra!! If Schwarzenegger were to make another Total Recall, I'd be watching that too!

For once, a holiday movie that doesn't involve dungeons and dragons or photon blasters drawn on $5 billion special effects budget.

Guaranteed senseless beatings.. unrealistic boxing.. He's going pass the torch to his son hopefully... and the quotes, oh the quotes. It ain't over 'til it's over.

I'm going to MEC tomorrow to pick up a tent

 
I forgot.. the unorthodox training methods - hopefully involving a side of beef, a keg of beer and jogging through the market at 7am to get free handouts of fruit from the produce managers

theres not even gonna be a crowd to go watch that movie, camping out is gonna be pointless... but whatever floats your boat, have fun.
 
So, I set up camp this morning - thank god there's no snow out. It's not actually that cold. I got a good toque and my mummy style sleeping bag actually makes me sweaty.

Since i'm on my blackberry and NS doesn't scale that well, i'm keeping usage here to a minimum until i see the movie. 10 more days. I can't believe there isn't more people here to see it. Being my first camp out, it's kinda discouraging to see people go into the theatre every night to watch Borat again and again and again.

Oh well... seeing Rocky hopefully knock out whoever he's fighting one last time will make this journey worthwhile. I'll post pictures soon.

PS - if you see my boss, make sure you tell him i hurt my back. I need to keep my story consistent here.
