I have alot of WMV. videos on my computer right now and wanted to know if they can be used on mac's without converting them to a format accepted by Quicktime????

If not anyone got some suggestions on free or cheap converters????

Thanks Alot

HP

im not too sure how you can convert them, but there is this cool program called flip4wmv i believe and it will play all the .wmv files u play on line on quicktime format

^^ thats right. google flip4mac it'll play any downloaded wmv or wmv online. ok its actually at www.flip4mac.com    I've been using it for a while now and never had a problem.

when you pick up your mac lemme know your thoughts on leopard, i'm planning on upgrading soon and wanna hear some more opinions.

leopards fucking awesome...so many features i havent even figured them all out...i just fund boot camp tonight..it lets you install windows xp or linux so you can have both operating systems on one computer...so sick...get it, you wont be dissapointed

I wish i had enough money to afford a macbook for college. I always hear great things about them

good idea. I hate my compaq so much. if i drop a pen or tap the tower it shuts down and it can hardly handle NS and its only 2 years old.

Well thats your problem right there. After a horrible string of compaq computers, I now have an hp and I love it, everything runs perfectly. The best option though is to build one yourself; its cheaper, easy, fun and you really get to know your machine, and you get to pick exactly what you need.

Other than whatever bullshit software is pre-installed on a computer you buy it really shouldn't matter what name is on the box. Just delete everything except your OS and a browser and you'll be fine from there. Just don't be cheap. Get a setup from a company that won't be out out dated within 10 minutes and you're golden. Or like you said, build one your self. Cheaper, Fun, and you'll learn a lot.

just download "VLC media player" and use that. Its a simple freeware that can pretty much play any format of media.

Great call. I love my macbook. Forget about flip4mac and all that stuff. Just go to apple.com and download windows media player for mac. Its free and its by far the best way to go.

ok, check it...i know for a fact that WMP for Mac is no longer being developed. Microsoft has completely stopped all work on it for several reasons. check out when that release that you linked to was posted. can you say 2003? it functions, sometimes, but it is grossly outdated. apple is cooperating with the developers for flip4mac and that is the standard now for playing .wmv or .wma on the mac platform.
