Ikon pass price jump is pissing me off.

I got my first ikon pass last year for 530 and bought it at like the endish of summer.

This year it says it’ll be 660 even with my renewal discount since I’m going to be in the 23plus category. To make it worse prices go up tomorrow, which they conveniently haven’t posted on their Instagram.

Feel like companies like this should grandfather in pricing. Kind of stupid that I’m a pass holder and probably going to pay 200ish extra to renew.

I would just buy it today but not sure if I’ll be living in the states next winter...

Eh it’s kind of the only option if you live in so cal and go skiing a decent amount. I would just get a big bear pass for less, but it’s kind of only fun for the park and my friends always do mammoth trips ? If I lived near a bigger mountain like mammoth I would just buy their pass forsure.

Solution: don't buy it, ez clap.

2 things you should get comfy with real quick -

1.) Inflation's hittin pretty hard, cost of everything is going to increase.

2.) Pass prices always go up as the season nears, why wouldn't you buy it as close to when it drops as possible?

yeah sounds like you're just stuck it with. you could also look at it this way, a mammoth pass (plus all of the other resorts) for < 700 is an absolute steal.

Because I’m not even sure if I’m gonna be here for the season next winter, so like do I want to risk 650 dollars to potentially never use it, or wait and loose just 100 bucks if I end up staying

True, I got to ski 29 days last season for 530 bucks so I shouldn’t be complaining lmao. Probably would have jumped off a cliff during covid if I hadn’t

?You know you only got 1 day and 8 hours until another ikon price hike right? ?

Also, that’s still an incredible deal for what you get out of it and complaining isounds really petty, also, as said above, better get used to inflation, it’s kinda always been a thing and it ant gonna get better, I remember when a bag of chip a hoy was $1.25 and a top of the line ugly ass Camaro was $16k, and an oz of weed was $400 ??‍♂️

Yea bad take OP these passes are a huge steal. Their business model is taking gems of resorts and crowding the fuck out of them so they can sell a cheap pass to millions of people. A season pass to some random mountain with 500 vert in the northeast is like comparable cost to one that gets you access to some of the best skiing on the planet.

Can def say I saw a severe increase in the #of ikon passes at snowshoe this year, the lines on the frontside I literally lodged at the more expensive lodge just to be on the west side of theountain all year, it was terrible, west side was still ski to lift tho

Tbh its not bad for hyland hills the tiny ass 500ft very hill by my house its 500 for the season so ikon aint too bad

There’s no comparison.

ikon= numerous mountains and vert, much longer season, basically year round

VS

A pass at one small vert less hill

Just purchase the child pass for $319. You'll pay less and it sounds like you'd easily pass as a spoiled, 12-year-old fucking bitch.

I like skierman posts... but wouldn’t I be a spoilt 12 year old if I didn’t blink an eye at the price jump? Lmaaoooooooooooooooo

I’m glad he says these things keeps me from doing so.

It is a really, really good deal man, i buy 5 every year, and added a 6th this year so a friend could afford to bring his kid, I for one wish they would triple or quadruple it, even then, it would be a deal.

I also think they should have more restrictions as not to over run resorts, more resorts on their list would help, ikon shouldn’t be available on every other weekend or something to give the locals a break, as well as a reservation system with a limited number of users per day per resort would really help everyone.

Also ikon should have to increase their payment to any resort on their list with the extra money to go towards an extra lift and terrain maintenance/expansion

I can’t wait to see the reaction when ikon is able to capitalize on what is essentially “free” and starts some kinda touring group get together a and the bc gets over run with amateurs, that’ll piss a lotta people off

Does anyone know if partner resorts get money when you use your ikon pass or do they get it when you buy the pass?

I buy an abasin pass and an ikon pass typically and never use my ikon at abasin BUT if I could be taking money from alterra and giving it to al by swiping my ikon at abasin 5 days that would be a sweet move.

Venting about price increases that were clearly not disclosed on purpose through their Instagram isn’t a spoilt thing to do. Especially after a rough year financially due to covid. It seems as though you live in a bubble.... not as many people have the finances to buy 6 passes a year like yourself. Doubling/tripling anything would make an already exclusive sport even more exclusive. I understand your local resort lines being crowded can be frustrating, but a huge reason for that is also social distancing precautions that are making lift lines so damn long.

I understand the frustrations of being a local.

Although you guys deserve respect for living there, at the end of the day it’s not your land and you don’t own it. Everyone should have an opportunity to enjoy the mountains. Damn you’re a pretentious fella

You misinterpret, I know social distancing killed this year, and I’m not mad about the lines, I’m a mon-fri skier I’ve hardly spent an hour in line over the whole year, I’ve actually been making the argument your making for years, but I’m starting to see the negative impacts of ikon and the like, and how it could improve to be better.

My double, triple price idea is only an instant and temporary idea to support the other ideas of terrain, lift expansion etc to reduce crowding, and that should only be for their all access pass, they could still offer other less expensive versions, but if it has an unlimited access resort, it should be as much as that resorts pass and then some. ultimately I think a reservation or modified reservation system and limited days would be the biggest crowd deterrent.

Again about the price hike, I don’t wanna take anything away from the less fortunate, but I don’t have a better idea, and it’s still a good deal @ 3 or 4x the price, I figure I paid around $6 average per day to ski this year thanks to ikon, if that went to $24 big whoop, now if your only skiing 10 days well....finally, only 5 years ago I could barely afford a few tickets a year, and in 2 more I’ll be lucky to afford an ikon with sending kids to college, but I’d still advocate to see the full pass at $2k plus, and understand, I know I may be dead wrong, but I just want ikon , the resorts, and us the skiers to all get what we want and need to continue our symbiotic relationship, we seems on each other.

Also never said it was my land and that others don’t have a right, and I didn’t say they should raise ticket prices for access, but a multi resort pass, yah that should be able to do more for its resorts than crowd them, call me pretentious all you want, your inaccurate and obviously cannot follow along with and correctly interpret what’s said, you sound childish, greedy, uneducated, spoiled, petty and your tangent should be headline for a why to wear helmets as- wth happened to that thread anyway, I log in got 3 alerts and the threads gone, and I thought it was going so well, I mean. I was having fun

Three alerts? The hell are you even talking about? I completely interpreted your statement correctly. You talked about hiking up prices 2-3 times, which makes the sport even more exclusive to people with as much money as yourself.

That was an un related to this thread , it was a comment about another thread , wasn’t meant for you, like I said, your an advocate for why to wear a helmet.

Ikon raising their price doesn’t make the sport more exclusive, it makes the multi resort ikon pass more exclusive, you can still buy your local pass or tickets... no ones excluding you

I also said they could still sell their base pass but it should be more limited, cost the price of an unlimited one resort pass plus a lil more. I mean geez you greedy people don’t realize what your getting for your money, and the resorts are getting like $50.

And let’s be real, that price hike ant shit even to the poorest, what u gotta do without now? One less monster energy drink or vape a week? Your being petty Karen.

Nope.

your missing the entire point, you cannot even follow what I’m saying and you say I look like I have a mental disability?

I only want ikon and other multi resort passes to better serve us the customer and the resorts and their employees w/o destroying what we love, idw stand in line all day, and I don’t have a better way to do it, making their all access pass more expensive and leaving the base pass, basically where it is, shouldn’t matter, your not even buying an all access pass, from the price, sounds like your being petty about the base pass, but I understand, when ya fuck up in life ya gotta complain and be petty and god forbid you be adult and prioritize your expenses, buy a lil less weed, a few less monsters in your way in to flip burgers, whatever it takes to increase your ability to do what you desire, so just keep being petty and complaining it’s serving you well.

Your original point also included hiking the price 2-3 times. I was responding to that, not your special little multi resort idea. Most people I know with an Ikon only use it for their local mountain and a couple days at another one, so hiking it to upwards of 2 grand (like you were talking about) would absolutely kill their business/make an exclusive sport even more exclusive. Let me reiterate, when I said that people are coming off a rough year financially, I did not mean myself. I’ll be fully able to afford my own shit/don’t smoke or do burnout things like my username suggests. The fact that you get to ski as much as you claim / are buying so many passes means you’re most likely older with a family and have finally setup yourself to be financially stable. Or that you got your money handed to you and are spoilt resort kid living in a bubble. My guess is that you’re a combination of both, seeing as that people who generally made it by themselves still have a frugalness of finances / if you’re actually an older family man and trying to take digs at people on a skiing forum, then you definitely grew up being an entitled brat and just can’t seem to grow out of it still.

My beef was mainly that ikon is shady / purposely doesn’t disclose things on their Instagram. I’ve seen countless posts shitting on them, so I don’t think I’m in the minority here.

You're complaining about paying under 700 dollars for a pass dude gtfo.

If your only using it at a local and maybe one other you don’t need a full access pass so it’s price doesn’t concern you, stick with the base pass

2-it Def wouldn’t kill their business, if you were privy to the quarterly financial reports of ikon, which were listed in two other threads, you’d know the average ikon pass owner are wealthy and they would def pay that.

I was never entitled, grew up lower middle, built everything I have, am, and that’s around me which includes the welfare of many employees.

And saying if you got this, achieved that , your probably still gonna be frugal with money is stupid to generalize, your very assuming and narrow minded m8, especially with $, people act very differently with $, and when you go from poor to broke to spin aight and realizing shit I’m mortal, money becomes the least important thing, my $ is for me, my fam, my friends, random new friends I’ll never see again, it’s for fun and life maintenance, beyond that, it’s but a nuisance.

I don't understand what you are complaining about other than complaining for the sake of complaining. You are not sure if you want an Ikon pass because you might be going back to Australia. Simply don't buy the fucking Ikon pass until you know where you'll be this winter. Not sure why you can't come to this simple conclusion.. A flight to Aus is more expensive than an Ikon pass so if you stay you will be saving money even if you buy the pass at full price.

530? shut up dude. Start complaining when your favorite spots start charging over $800 for unlimited passes with little to no benefits attached or incentives. Fuck the ski industry in the intermountain west.

Thread was mainly to just to say it’s shady to not disclose a price jump on their Instagram, since that’s what people are used to. I said above I shouldn’t actually complain about the price ^

Prices going up in June is lame. What happened to the Fall? Having to put a pass on layaway just to go take laps doesnt seem smart also so its like if thats your only option to afford a pass then yeah, making skiing a regular hobby isnt going to happen a lot
