Ignorant Parents

I am fortunate to have parents that support me in my skiing, but it can be pretty annoying when they restrict me from doing a lot of things associated with freeskiing (ex. cutting down poles). I'm stoked to have chill parents, but i was just wondering if anyone else deals with this?

usually you can make up stuff about risks or other stuff, tell your parents you will get hurt by falling on a longer pole and cutting it down will make you safer.

its funny because my mom is totaly chill with everything, she loves me wearing massive jiberish hoodies

and wants one for her birthday

Yeah I've tried that but I've just decided to just let it be at this point. No point in gettin in an arguement over something like ski poles or sagged pants. I'm just happy he buys me shit in the first place

when I cut down my poles my mom looked at me funny and I solely said, "I have to keep up with the trends and be a real OG momz." hahaha she just said whatever have fun

I basically say this to my mom. She doesn't care so much about technical reasons, but more if I'm happy.

My dad is really focused on the tech side of things when it comes to skiing. But he's really down with whatever I want to. It just needs a reason.

My parents do this ALOT but to tell you the truth. Its for the better. Like I've tried to do shit. but then relized it would be super stupid. Like I tried to grind my 8ft tall fence that didn't have the chain link. so yeah

I ski with my family a lot, so they see whatever it is that im doing and i proceed to get punished. Skiing w/ long poles>not skiing

follow their words for now, they've got their reasons.
and then it will feel even better when you're off on your own living it your way.

ya my parents are really cool but my dad wont let my but skis that have tips on the back part of the skis he is always like "why do y'all want to ski backwards god created you with eyes on the front of your head for a reason" so i just ski forward from now on. see y'all

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, Skiing with long poles = not skiing??

This is why i hate ns sometimes, you should enjoy the skiing and stop worrying about unecessary shit.

next time buy short poles and you won't have to cut them.
In reality most people that are familiar with skiing are accustomed to the whole 90º arm bend with poles, so being unorthodox with that "rule" raises questions. Just buy your own shit and have a good explanation for your actions. If there is still scorn or doubt, just brush it off and do your thing.

read his post before you say u hate ns,
the op said he wants to cut down his poles, someone said cut them down without ur parents knowing, he said he wouldnt be able to ski if his parents found out he wouldnt ski so he said
skiing with long poles> not skiing
i dont hate ns, i hate stupid people like you who post on ns

Ive never used short poles... maybe thats because i like to ski runs outside of the park as well, and dont want to look retarded. But thats just me.

my mom had to warm up to the thought of me being a ski bum and wearing everything tall but now she only buys me tall clothes. She wants to get saga to make girlier hoodies to.

atleast your parents support you. my dad jus makes fun of me for skiing and anytime i tell him im goin up he always goes "quit wasting your time you're never going pro!" n I always tell him im not trying to be a fucking pro I just enjoy skiing.............damn alcoholics.....

just go cut them down? what are you, 12? why do you have to ask if you can cut down your poles, do you not know how to use a hack saw?

just cut your goddamn poles. tell them to get over it, and you have your reasons. your dad doesnt know shit about freestyle skiing, and let him know that you actually know whats up.

but dont be a dick, that gets you nowhere

yeah i think thats almost all parents.. theyunderstand te traditional ways of skiing and thats it. they dont understand how shorter poles are necessary for skiing park

im sorry but i found this hillarious, its not that they wont let you cut down your poles, its that you let them not let you cut down your poles, dont ask them, just go do it, what are they going to say? "im realy dissapointed you did that now i have to buy you new ones", just tell them you like them more shorter, i dont see why there would be a problem to begin with.

here i am thinking being ignant was the hottest thing in skiing right now, but you are telling me now bein ignant is a bad thing because your parents are and wont let you shorten your poles. i cant believe they wont let you do that. total bs

it isnt ignorant to do your best to look out for your kids, especially when theyre doing shit with your money. i'd be pissed if i bought something for someone and they 'modified' it only to later discover they messed up and threw them away. think about it. how often have you begged your parents for something that just went to waste, or you didnt take care of? "mawmmmmm i need these new $700 skis. and im goign to smash them up on rails and even if i dont, they wont be cool next year so ill need new ones then too". put yourself in their position and tell me it's unreasonable for them to care..

in my opinion, you should just shut up and deal with it until you buy your own shit. if you did buy it with your own money, then just tell your dad to chill the fuck out

For everyone telling me to just go behind their back and do it, I actually respect my parents and I'm not going to go against something they say on such a small issue. To be honest, the whole purpose of this thread was just to find out if other kids dealt with the same sort of stuff or not...
