IF3 - TANNER HALL IS A CLASSLESS IDIOT

BELIEVE THIS!! In my opinion.............

"It" is not a big deal in the celebrity world, especially in the freestkiing venue. What is "It" you ask?

I see Tanner as a human being. Imagine living in this world as the center of attention with the thing you love the most always on display. He has pressures none of us will be able to understand, let alone experience. "It" refers to his intoxicated public appearance. "It" may be referring to over-indulgence in substances. "It" could be referring to his performance as a calculated move to continue to garner tons of attention and controversery.

What I saw was a public appearance while under the influence of heavy substance consumption. Was "it" really such a bad thing? .........................A bunch, if not all of the people were trashed at the IF3. This thread specifically picks on Tanner like he is not allowed to do that, since he is "role model". WTF! What about everyone else that was there that night who was loud, staggering, slurring. Aren't they role models too?

Tanner came from the regimented side of skiing where displays like that would have gotten him kicked off the team. Guess What? Freeskiing was born out of those who did not want to conform to the "rules". Someone forgot to tell Tanner that when he won the X-games that he would have act a certain way. Public intoxication? What? Do you think he is Bode Miller or something?

Jeeeeeez, how many hours do you kids get lectured about substances at school? Are kids really dumb enough to believe that if they drink alot they too can switch rodeo 60 footers? Can I blame Tanner for my hangover today? I mean I wanna be just like him, so I drank alot. whoooo hoooo...

MY thoughts go out to everyone and I hope that all of you remember Tanner for who he is and what he has achieved, he is one very smart and talented individual. I BELIEVE that Tanner knows exactly what he is doing, including his public displays of intoxication. He is an adult and was in an adult setting. No foul, no crime, no one got hurt. Matter of fact, the entertainment was fun to watch!!

NOW, in the event I am wrong... If Tanner IS out of control with excessive substance comsumption to the point that he is embarrassed and ashamed of his behavior, then I pray that he finds the balance to remain healthy and sane in order to continue contributing to this sport in the same epic porportions this upcoming season.

The IF3 was soooooo good! Lets do it again next year! I had fun and enjoyed talking to everyone except kye.

 
The real Question is..Why the fuck do you all care?????? tanners a nice guy and a sick skier, guy cant drink to dave his life though but who cares doing dum funny shit is fun.. but in this situation kinda stupid.. but in the end who really gives a fuck.. there skiers not rocket Scientists .. there not trying to go to mars, or cure cancer, respect there on hill shit and laugh at there off hill antics.. the ski industry is soo fukin stuck up. if this happenedin skatting people would laugh about it but casue this is skiing there is a fukin 4 page thread on why tanner is a bad roll model .. get the fuck over it..
 
I can agree with all that you said in your post even if I do think he shouldn't have gotten up there as drunk as he was.

yea he especially doesnt rep their companys well when he drinks a redbull while wearing is oakley suit and then on his armadas skis rips threw the pipe winning the superpipe at the Xgames, like tanner isnt that bad of a role model like fuck if i was in a ski movie like that id be ripped off my ass,and like anyone who doesnt have a job and all they do is ski you KNOW that this person gets fucked up multiple nights a week and parties hardy its the skiing lifestyle, no skibum wakes up at 6 goes skiing all day and then goes to bed at 830, and remeber that basketball player that was sponsered by nike and got caught on dog fighting charges i think theres worse role models than a skibum who gets drunk when he makes millions of $ on a ski movie
 
I met tanner right before he and his crew went in to introduce believe. He was really nice and chill, we smoker a joint and just talked skiing... who cares if he got drunk and was being ridiculus... everyone there was drunk! Look at Doug or ANYONE else!

and who is running laps around tanner? last time i checked i wasnt seeing first hit cab 9s on 50 foot stepdowns out of anybody, when hes not winning pipe comps or sliding steep quad kinks both ways. oh and pushing blunts and noseblunts on hadrails - how you gonna say hes washed?

If your story is how you say it is, I agree. In the past I have just though whatever, no big deal about his shit he pulls like that because of how he is allways in the spot light, but Tanner should be mature by now and its getting old.
 
skiing is changing... especially in our niche in the sport. The more attention skiing gets, the bigger names like Tanner, and Dumont, and Jon and everyone else gets the more responsibility they get. No one is saying they choose this, because they just want to ski. But the fact of the matter is, everyone is watching you. Your life becomes a spectacle and kids of pretty much all ages are going to look up to you. No one is saying you cant party and have a good time. But there is a time and a place. Tanner seems to be the only one that hasn't realized that. No one can take away the fact that he is an amazing skier. But when your a top pro is any sport, your responsibilities carry on off the field... or hill in this case. Whether you like it or not.
 
Definitely not, but whatever. That being said, I thought Tanner was hysterical. Did you see him jump off the balcony? Tanner has no reason to protect his reputation, everyone who follows freestyle skiing whatsoever knows he's a pothead. Why the hell wouldn't he get trashed at one of the biggest ski events of the year and make everyone laugh? I sure did.

Why do you care so much? You should see the TGR after-parties at The Mangy Moose in Jackson Hole...not just "acting a fool onstage" Those of you that define yourselves through freeskiing culture need to get a clue. Just be yourself instead of searching for identity through others, you'll never be happy that way. Pro-skiers are just people, some of them are shitheads, some of them are food court mall rats, some of them are jocks on skis, and some of them are creative, intelligent, chill people...all of whom just happen to ski, it takes all kinds. Just be yourself and stop judging or caring about what T-Hall or anyone else chooses to do. I would love to lap the park sometime w him at PC, people who actually know him say he's cool.

 
i dont think he's even close to the best skier in the world anymore. he kinda broadened his choice of skiing, so now he's mediocre in back country and decent for a pro in park. thats about it.
 
This is ridiculous, by the way. Skiing and drinking are practically one in the same, it's expected at a film premiere in CANADA, no less... and honestly, everyone else was. Tanner isn't a skier for a company that sells skis to eight year olds or soccer moms. It markets its skis to teenagers who almost definitely thought his antics were hilarious (it really was...). Sponsors aren't going to complain unless their goddamn idiots, aside from perhaps a press release to cover their asses.

And I know you were already told off for your stuff about LSD, but seriously... make sure you have some idea what you're talking about before you say stuff like that.

ok, honestly, i will first say that i have not read this whole thread.

that being said, i don't see a big problem with tanner or anyone being shit faced. i usually can be found in a similar state at least one night a week, and if you don't like it and it bothers you that much you're to sheltered. welcome to the real world where people get shitty.

not to look cool but in the last few years i have had a few conversations with tanner in several different settings and all times been impressed with his absolute love for the sport. and i do mean that.

i might as well jump in on this seeing as though everyone else has.

i wasn't there but i think everyone here paints a pretty clear picture of what happened.

tanner hall hands down is a phenomenal athlete. he's pushed the sport to new levels and had a major influence on ski fashion, attitude, style, etc... so he got super drunk and made some inappropriate comments. this is not the end of the world but a serious incident nonetheless. i did see one comment on the first page regarding how tough it is to be a pro always being in the spotlight. i say fuck that. you basically are trying to justify an individual turning to the bottle to deal with their problems. if people are concerned about the comments made with the younger attendees; incidents like this are reasons why, i hate to say it but, all ages parties are simply not a good idea. when people get some liquor into them there's no telling what can happen and in this case something negative arose.

as for repricusions from his sponsors and supporters, i can see them writing him a letter regarding his behaviour and that it is extremely unacceptable from an individual in a position such as his.

yes pro skiers are paid to ski but they are also paid to represent their sponsors both on and off the hill. once you enter the public eye in the industry you are being watched constantly and followed like a celebrity. once you slip up and do something wrong, everyone is on you and talking negative about you. for all you young kids that are working towards gaining your first sponsorships and becoming a pro able to support yourself on skiing and skiing alone, keep this incident in the back of your mind and remember how you felt when you saw someone you looked up to extremely inebrated.

I totally agree with you on it what you just said but like any profession a person chooses they have to do things wont make them and their company look like bad. Yeah hes a pro skiier, yeah hes good but he has that responsibility to take time to pose with kids and keep his partying under control in a public situation. You wouldnt see a ceo of a major company doing that.... Its the same thing....if he chose to or not to be a role model he is one like it or not.
 
It has nothing to do with rolemodel. If you are on stage (which you chose to do) and you know there are a lot of children and ppl who admire you, than you treat ppl with respect and be thankful for every fan who is there. Thats classy!!

And he did none of them which is classless --> what threadmaker mentioned.

Bah you can't get too angry at the guy for getting wasted. I mean really everyone at these things drinks themselves back to the maturity of a 3 year old... I can't say I'm much better!

I personally wanted the awards show to be chaotic... I think that gives a less polished vibe, and we as NS have never been polished.

Athletes frequently have attitudes people disagree with, and Tanner catches a lot of that. I thought it was funny, and kind of added a little bit of drama to the whole thing.

Tanner is a pretty nice guy when you talk to him. The very first time I met him years ago way before I worked at NS he was super friendly and just chatted with me like a regular guy.

I'd say give the man a break... all is well that ends well right?
 
it is funny how tanner is well known he gets five pages of posts on him.

This is why his sponsors keep him. every skier knows him and what he rides for.

yeah, but stunts like that will only hold the sport of skiing back.

Being drunk at premiers while presentating infront of an audience of adults, teenagers, and children, gives skiing a bad name compared to other sports.

Look at what tony hawk did for skateboarding. One guy made the sport gigantic everywhere.
