IF3 - TANNER HALL IS A CLASSLESS IDIOT

that sucks. you would think that such a big name pro would realize his influence that he has on kids. soo many kids look up to him, and just want to be as good at skiing as he is, and when they see him doing shit like that, they re either gonna think its cool and start drinking at age 12, or theyre gonna think hes dumb and they ll be crushed. im all for him getting wasted at his own premier yeah, but wait til the vids done and the little kids are gone.

i remember meeting sammy carlson at windells, and he was just so down to meet everyone and hang out with all the kids. you d just be skiing, and he d come up to you and introduce himself to you. when a pro skier comes up to a little kid and introduces themselves to you, thats amazing. thats what pros need to do as role models
 
So true...Sammy was one of the nicest guys there he was signing autographs and talking chilling with fans for like an hour
 
whatever dude, everyone was drunk. im not a tanner fan at all, i dont really like him at all, but it was still hilarious watching him.
 
Ok, well seeing as how everybody weighed in on this one, i might throw in my few cents. First Tanner is an INCREDIBLE skier. His style is pretty much what makes modern newschool skiiing what it is today. His influence on the sport is incredible. He is the Babe Ruth of newschool skiing.

But, that being said, the man still has responsiblities. Yes skiing is his job, but a sponsored pro skier has WAY WAY more responsibilities then just skiing. He doesn't just represent him self anymore when he skis, he represents Oakley, Diabello, Armada, etc. These companies put money into this film which he is premering. Now that being said, when he goes to a premere technically its not really "HIS" time. Really he is there to push the film, and push him self to make money, and to make money for the companies which he works for.

This in turn requires that he be at least a little bit profestional(sorry my spelling is a little off in this one) about it. Yes he is a great skier, but that does not give you a reason to act like an asshole, or be drunk as fuck at a time when you schould act like a PRO.

Like i have a a video premere for my ski program coming up in a few weeks. Its at a bar, and there will be drinks there. Will i have a few? Yes. Will i get totally sloshed and act like a moron and embarress my school/program/teachers/peers? Of course not. That is what Tanner did, he embaressed everybody he represents, and works for. He could have gotten super shit faced after the premere anyways, and nobody would have cared. Im sure after this his companies gave him a call and a good talking to.

In this sport a pro skier needs to be at least kind, and respectful of his fans. With out them, he would be just another poor ski bum, doing shit fuckall with his life. You can't forget that. You get one huge backlash, you lose all your fans, then you go bankrupt.

Yes he is human, but so am i, and thats no reason to act like a ass. I know when to party it up, and when to hike up the socks and work.
 
When I was in whistler many years back, my buddy and I happened to be in TMC at the same time as Tanner and he actually said hi to us and started conversing with us. This summer I ran into him in the lobby of the powder lodge and he again said hi to me. I've met a couple other times also and he really does seem like a down to earth nice dude.
 
Although tanner is a dope skier I think he is full of him self, and needs to quit makeing a ass out of himself.
 
i love it how everyone thinks his sponsors gave a shit... he OWNS Armada, he's been with Oakley for almost a decade, he's the only skier or boarder i know of who had Red Bull logos on the bases of skis and he's been riding for them for years... he has other sponsors, too, but i'm sure none of them really care that he was drunk at a premiere. he's made so much money for them and done so much to promote them that the drinks were probably on them that night and every night. fuck, if i were his sponsor, i'd have a pound of dank bud going to him as a Christmas bonus every year.
 
The only thing better than helping tanner across the street last night because he was too fucked up to walk, was when we got to the door of Club Soda, and the bouncers wouldn't let him in because he didn't have his pass.
 
Did I say I look up to him as a role model? No, so shut up and think before you post. Regardless of weather you like him or not, there are kids who look up to Tanner. I just think he was stupid to get on stage and act like an idiot when he's been saying in a bunch of recent interviews that he wants to become a better role model and shit( quote from an interview in SBC Skier about a year ago: "Like I've said, I'm making steps to better myself as a person and as a role model for these young kids" ) and then he does shit like this. I don't really care if he got drunk at IF3, but to go on stage and act like a drunken fool when he's been saying things like that, he's being a hypocrite. But whatever, I still think he's a sick skier.
 
i dont know if you know this but a Darwin award goes to someone who dies because of doing something stupid, so i dont know how not processing a paragraph would deserve a darwin award in any way, shape, or form.  just a thought
 
ha, tanners a champ, he was consistently drunk from like 6 to 4 am, and then we saw him the next morning at like 11. thats a seasoned drinker. someone said something at montreal doing things to people, we it does, and it did. everyone thank felix, doug and other for putting this on
 
i kinda like that he was drunk and being a dumbass, it better than being all good, fake and proper, people need to realax and laugh at it instead of getting all butt hurt. he was probably having a good time which is what skiing is about.

and honetly what kid is ever gonna be hurt by someone swearing, most kids start cussing by the time they are in 1st or 2nd grade, and i doubt there were kids younger tha that there, plus it really is just words.

but thats not cool that he refused to take a picture with a fan, being mean is never ever cool.
 
did anyone catch any of tanner on camera or any of the party for that matter? i couldn't make it but will def try next year.
 
have you talked to a 1st or 2nd grader recently? my cousins started swearing when they were 8 years old (shit and damn, i think) and my dad and uncle got an earful from my aunt. haha, turns out they learned from her. oh, but the moral of the story- little kids swear.
 
yeah if you didnt know any cuss words after 6 or so years then you must be stupid, or extremely sheltered. anyway it dosent matter, i was just saying cussing isnt going to hurt anyone, even litle kids.
 
I heard a young boy once looked up to Tanner as a role model. He watched videos of him killing it all the time... that boy went on to create Ninthward.

Tanner WAS the best skier in the world, that was before everyone caught up and lapped him, THEN he claimed he didn't like where skiing was going (probably becuase he couldn't keep up), and switched to big mountain. Now he's just a washed up useless stoner piece fo shit with no life. Also, he REALLY needs to stop milking his 'my ankles are broken' injury for all its worth. Seriously, Dumont broke his pelvis and almost died and he's back better than ever, but Tanner still hasn't gotten over his broken ankles. WTF. And then he goes to make shitty 'believe' and 'look at me I'm back!' movies. Get over it. its been 3 years. Get down off the cross, use the wood to make a bridge and get over it.
 
Why? Because he can ski? Because he has skied? And what do you know about me? Garunteed I've seen more things than Tanner has, experienced more. His career was done 3 years ago when he was what 25? 26? I plan on doing things that will last and have an actual impression on people, not just making money getting high and skiing. If that's your definition of an in depth life then count me out.
 
we saw him in his ghetto ass limo at if3 and said hi, didnt even acknowledge us. he was so wasted he couldnt even get himself to club soda. he was either beyond shitfaced last night or trippin on acid which i wouldnt doubt
 
Exactly. He knows he has a large following of kids who admire him, and he knew there would be alot of them there. It wasnt a responsible, nor polite thing to do what he did at the premier. I hope he feels aweful about what he did to the fan who wanted a picture.

you people bitching about Tanner's antics had better stay away from DH/FR mtn biking... we have a few guys who can drink a few beers and make total fools of themselves (Cedric, Peaty, Rennie, Chase... etc) and that would REALLY offend you.

that's the problem with skiing- skiing has this heritage and shit. there's this uppity proper attitude in skiing, so when Tanner acts like a moron it looks that much worse. if this was the mtn bike world, Armada would have an acid bowling night, K2 would still be made in America, Tanner would still be considered a big partier but he'd have big competition for the top spot, and you would have been so wasted yourself at the premiere off Fat Tire that you wouldn't remember Tanner acting like an ass (allegedly). people need to lighten up and stop acting like the racing crowd. last time i checked, i stopped racing and started going to the park because i hated that attitude and i still fucking hate it.

i'm going to Vegas for Interbike in a week and a half and i'm going to some of the premieres... holy shit, i hope i don't get offended when there are strippers or something at the premiere. actually, i just hope i remember something from the premiere.

ITS A JOB FOR HIM. Years a ago he signed a contract that pretty much said he was a public representative of the companies that he skis for. In return for being a public face for Diabello, Oakley, they support his films, and skiing with money. In not so many words, when tanner goes to a film premere he is going to work, when tanner goes to a comp, he goes to work, when tanner goes to a ski show, he goes to work.

I don't know about you, but when i show up to work, i show up sober, and im nice to the people i have to deal with. THIS IS HIS JOB. Part of his job is that he has to deal with fans ( WHO PAY HIS CHECKS, IF IT WAS NOT FOR THE FANS HE WOULD BE ANOTHER SKI BUM ON THE STREETS OF WHISTLER OR SOMEWHERE, NO PRO SCHOULD EVER FORGET THAT). If your an asshole to the fans, and the companies he works for gets backlash for it, then he gets repremanded, or dropped, just like any other job.

Like i said before, there is a time and a place to get fucked. On your own personal time.

Ohh BTW LSD sure is amazing when you lose all your short term memory, become a huge addict, and can bearly talk. Ohh and K2 is in your so called Mountain bike industry, and there shit is still made in china regardless. You sound like a fuckin child, and im sure you are one.

And I also find that he's kind of a pussy because he doesn't even ski slopestyle or much park for that matter and the reason for this is that he got beat once in the x games and he can't handle the fact that people are better than him so he quit ... this speaks volumes about his puss level

Dude, I was there. He wasn't an ass at all, he was half downstairs and half up, and I talked to him for a while. Good guy, whatever anyone says, and thankfully has developed a shield to protect against hate like this.
 
im not spreading rumors. im just stating what i saw. i have no real problem with tanner. its just that if he wants to act that when then he needs to realize that hes gonna get criticized for it and maybe lose some support from fellow skiers. thats my 10 cents
