Technine has and easily does the gnarliest urban shit. Every single feature they hit is fucking massive and has the biggest consequences and 0 of them are every wearing a helmet. There movies are awesome but it shows how much more having sound in videos makes them so much better. Just thought id share

these edits have no riding sound. but i still don't think that stept compares to the shit they're hitting. THey are definitely right there with them though

i wrote the fact that none of them ever wear helmets because it just makes it that much gnarlier if they fuck up and hit their head

For some reason I never used to wear a helmet when hitting urban, but would 100% of the time in the park. Then I hit my head straight pavement. Never again
 
I mean you can train yourself to avoid letting your head hit when you bail. It's pretty easy and since I've done it I have had 0 head slams so it obviously works.

But really for baby spills you can prevent your head from hitting it's really just something to practice. I just go on the trampoline and throw myself onto my back and work on keeping my head from touching the bed. It's worked on more than one occasion, but obviously for 30ft. drops to concrete or rag dolls down stairsets your still fucked, just depends if that's a risk your willing to take.
 
Yeah because hitting your head hasn't caused insane injuries and death in the ski community. You can't control it, and there's been lots of skiers better than us that have hit their heads.
 
I think we're arguing two different things here.

I'm saying for small spills you can avoid hitting your head. I've never known anyone to get a concussion from falling off a 3 ft high flat bar going 10 mph. In that case it's a slow fall, low drop, if you have good air awareness and are comfortable in situations like that you'll be fine. This is a situation where you can have the ability to keep your head up. Obviously every situation is different however, and it all comes down to knowing what type of a skier and how you handle yourself.

From where your coming from I completely understand and agree 100%. No amount of training or practice can save you from a concrete bomb drop to flat. Let's leave it at that.
 
because every day on the slopes, people die of head injuries. and some horseshit dumb teenager like you probably thinks its amazing that pros dont wear one in movies and follow them.

Snowboarding aside, it seems to be the general consensus on NS that not wearing helmets while skiing is gnarlier. A good bunch of professional athletes doesn't wear helmets for any number of reasons, sure. People often (though not that much anymore) are called out for their helmet and their sexual orientation is put into question if one is strapped on their noggin. Those who don't wear them gain more cred or gnar points in the eyes of some, but for what reason?

Usually the points are akin to "I do what I want", "I choose NOT to wear a helmet", "I can't afford a helmet", "Helmets don't look good" or "Helmets don't fit my head well with my goggles".

Now, would it be acceptable if someone who could have used a helmet suffers a head injury that could have been prevented or minimized with helmet use would allow people to say on the Internet, in their wake or memorial service to their folks, friends and families "I told you so, shoulda worn a helmet"? Hindsight 50/50 sure, but I think it's kind of hypocritical that those who are injured and willingly have not used a very important piece of equipment while doing a very dangerous and easily fatal thing are often revered as "He lived with no regrets and life to the fullest" as if it would be easier to do than just admit that the person could still be alive if they weren't so dumb as to not use a helmet.

 
I love snowboard edits, they're so fun to watch cause half the time I don't know the trick they're doing is so it keeps it fresh.
 
since this discussion has turned to helmets i'll double post. to me helmets are like seat belts. from a young age my parents always required me to wear a seat belt whenever we were in the car. it was a good practice too because as ive grown up ive always done it. i dont even notice it. same with the helmet. ever since i could ski as a little grom my parents made me wear a helmet. now i don't even notice it and when i DONT have it i'm uncomfortable. i realize that some of you have parents that don't care about you wearing a helmet, im just saying it doesnt hurt to own one when you feel like you might hurt yourself. also, ive hit my head so many times on tree branches that i honestly couldnt ski without a helmet. but long story short, its just good practice to wear a helmet. i dont care how "gnar" your hat looks, to me you look like an accident waiting to happen.
 
I wear a helmet with almost all the skiing that I do, just let people do what they want. I don't agree with people not wearing them when doing stuff like this, but who am I to tell them they're wrong?
 
because a 10, 12 or 14 year old doesnt know shit until he hits his head the first time. pros could be a good role model. its obviously the right thing to do to protect your head and spine while skiing in the park and BC, i dont think anyone would argue that.

so thats my point. let people do what they want when they are old enough to know their shit. if a 25 yr old doesnt want to wear a helment, i am not trying too much to convince him otherwise. but when i see a sub 15 yr old riding the park without a helmet (luckily not very common), i will definitely tell him to get a helmet because of my experiences

i have a helmet since at least 04 or so because i woke up in the hospital once and blacked out for 2+ minutes on another occasion (already had a helmet there, luckily). if i can prevent that this happens to someone else, i will do it. NO, i HAVE TO DO IT.

 
Just read the thread. So much bitching. Let people do what they want. I never used to wear a helmet. For the first 6 or so year I rode I just had a hat and my goggles with some tunes cranked up. Wasn't to be cool, I just had never ridden with one and didn't like the way they felt. Eventually I made the switch and I've been happy with it. The last years 3/4 of the riding I've done has been with a helmet.

If somebody doesn't want to wear a helmet that's their business. Only reason why I posted the above comment was the way OP stated it to show that it was so much cooler. That video alone is pretty insane. Would be cool if the discussion had stayed a little bit about how sick those parts were but whatever.

 
i believe the op also was about how much cooler those parts were because they had riding sounds in them?

They are professional snowboarders! They don't where helmets because they are some of the best at what they do. You don't see pro street skaters/bmxers releasing segments wearing helmets. Who gives a shit if they are not influencing little kids properly, that is their parents jobs. These guys get paid to look cool doing gnarly things, when you have a helmet on in a shot it says "I was worried this feature had a better chance of fucking me up than I had confidence to slay the shit out of it". The confidence it takes to not wear a helmet brings out a riders true style.

Beside's did I mention they are professionals?? Everything they do has calculated risk to it.

I'm not saying that helmets are a bad thing, I wear one 95% of the time I am skiing. I am just saying that anyone who wants to be a mom and say that pros should be wearing helmets and are stupid for not can go suck a dick and maybe stick to sports that do not fall into the "extreme" category.

Tell that to the kid who died not wearing a helmet skiing urban, without a helmet. Better yet, tell that to the parents of the kid who died.

Everything they do has a calculated risk? Is that why it typically takes a shit ton of tries before urban set ups "get the shot". Why do you think it takes a shit ton of tries? Because the camera wasn't set up properly? Or because they crashed?

You can say it isn't pros jobs to influence these kids but that's exactly what they're doing, even if they want to or not.

For real though: This should have been about how think thank is more innovative than Technine.
 
that is 100% their job. professional athletes are sponsored and paid by companies to influence and be idolized by children in order for these companies to generate more sales.

now yes these kids should figure it out that it is dangerous not to wear a helmet/act exactly as the pros they idolize. however, there are always those fucking idiots who will use "but (insert pro here) did it, and i wanted to be just like them" when they hurt themselves, which is followed by some bullshit from parents about pros being irresponsible and poor role models.
 
you are honestly fucking retarted. Did you notice how there were no riding sounds in these videos for the most part and in a lot of skiing movies (stept) there ARE riding sounds and these videos lack that and you notice how it makes them a bit worse. go fucking kill urself u idiot.
