If you were running for office...

We had this little assignment today in school and i thought it'd be kinda cool to see some of those who are into politics' answers

if you were running for office, what things would you consider most important, what issues would you fight for and which would you take the back burner? Think of the phrase "if you vote for me, i promise..." What office would support you and what office would you run for?

gay marriage would go on the backburner as would abortion. there's way bigger problems we have to deal. the economy would be the first thing i would make sure is worked on.... right after deeply apologizing (and possibly being forced to perform sexual favors) to all the countries we've been pissing off lately. i'd make sure we never make the mistake of going into iran or fucking with russia any more. i'd say fuck you to georgia and start minding our own fucking business. i'd hire "top men" to develop a free energy device and provide free energy to everyone. then, in order to go out with a bang, i'd throw a coup and bring the government back to the way it was desinged to run. small, representative of the people and efficient. not big, corrupt and worthless.

I love your thoughts about the economy, abortion, and gay marriage. Spot on + karma son

You other thoughts are interesting, although in reality...tough perhaps.

You sir, have my vote.

Oh, but I'm Canadian. I personally have no idea why Harper's calling an election. They were doin fine, not good, but not too bad, I mean thats REALLY good for a government right? As long as they aren't in the news, they must be doin their job...

government would get smaller on my watch. pay cuts across the board, starting with myself. (as president)

cut wasteful spending...........

restore more personal freedoms to US citizens.....

o, and no way in hell would i put forth a national healthcare plan, (hate me NS i dont care)

Focus on the enviornment by keeping a tab on cars. I would fund much more public transportation in order to give jobs to the less fortunate. I would also make sure that money would be pumped out of the war funds and into alternate energy sources.

if you were running for office, what things would you consider most important

- our foregin dependence on oil

what issues would you fight for and which would you take the back burner

Think of the phrase "if you vote for me, i promise..." What office would support you and what office would you run for?

harper's calling an election because he figures he needs a majority so that he can implement all these new policies that everybody doesn't like. he's basically trying to make a benevolent dictator of himself by forcing himself into the most powerful position he can possibly be in and then fucking with the country as much as possible, with nobody to stand in his way.

which sucks.

if you were running for office, what things would you consider most important

- our foregin dependence on oil

what issues would you fight for and which would you take the back burner

- i would fight for better public education in inner cities and put the issue of gun rights aside

If you vote for me i promise to better the american economy by eliminating welfare

Invest in green technology to make America the global leader in sources of energy any nation can produce given the investment. This would create jobs and give our country something to export to the rest of the world.

Adopt a foreign policy where were we move ourselves and our policies our from other nations. Democracy is great, but us coming in and destroying a nation and propping up a new government isnt going to turn people on to the idea so well.

Prepare our country for a world where the US is no longer the only force to be reckoned with. We need to be realistic instead of idealistic.

Word. I wouldn't be as extreme as him but basically

Give states a lot of rights back(drugs, drinking limit, speed limits, and a shit ton of other stuff)

Lower taxes for everyone

end the war in iraq

end the war on drugs

Reinstate the constitution as the rule of law

and fuck lots of bitches

Id go with the exact opposite. but really, you have a really limited understanding of.... everything.

How could you build free energy?! Haha this isn't even politics; its simple physics! Law of conservation of energy....

Why would you say sorry to France but say fuck you to Russia? Are you an idiot? Do you hold a double standard as to the value of human lives? You'd apologize to France and Canada on the premises of catering to their beliefs yet you would let Georgians die? You'd let Russia go unchecked? Do you know anything about foreign policy?

You have no idea about the government so don't pretend to think that it was designed to be small, representative of the people and efficient. Because of the Commerce clause in the enumerated powers clause (art1sec8) of the constitution, the US government has grown huge. This is partly because of the necessary and proper clause in combination with the commerce clause. I really don't see how you could change it...

You talk about minding our own fucking business? Then why not work on gay marriage? Gay marriage is a big issue not only because of the morality but because of the fundamental system of how our government works. Article four of the constitution is the Faith and Credibility clause of states. Thus far that article has been more or less ignored but now as California and Massachusetts are legalizing same sex marriage, how will this affect Federal vs State legislature?

I know iraq didnt turn out so well but Germany, Japan, Israel, and South Korea turned out great! Destroying a nation and propping upa new government has historically turned out pretty well...

Why would the next president need to prepare for a world where the US is no longer the only force to be reckoned with? You realize it might take a hundred years for China or Japan to catch up with us at our current rate of slowed GDP growth and their current rate of increased GDP growth?

I think that the world stage has changed significantly since then. I think its bullshit to think that China or the EU WONT be political giants that will soon overshadow the influence and power of the US.

are you serious? I think you underestimate how much the world's commerce lies within the buying power of american consumers.

America's GDP= roughly 14 trillion dollars with a OER at 13.84 trill

China's GDP= roughly 7 trillion dollars with a OER at 3.251 trill

US percapita GDP=46k

China=5k

America is growing their GDP at 2.2% where as China is growing theirs at 11.4%. So lets say our very very low growth at 2.2% continues and China's 11.4% skyrocket continues (which won't and can't physically happen)

2008 US gets 14 trillion, china gets 7.

2009 US gets another 14.3 trill china gets 7.77

2010 US gets another 14.6 china gets 8.65

2011 US gets another 14.9 china gets 9.6 trill.

Over these 4 years america has accumulated 57.8 trillion where as China has only accumulated 33.02.... still no where close... Not to mention i didnt use the international OER... which would be signifcantly less. America would get around 57 trill and china would get like 15 trill lol.

and in todays global stage, you need massive economies or massive military might in order to overshadow the influence and power of the US and i don't think the EU (which isnt a country...) nor China has even 1/3 the economy of america nor maybe 1/8 the military power.

You are correct about our military power, we definitely have everyone there. But on matters of the economy you are severely mistaken. While we may currently, and for a portion of the future, have a dominant economy, said economy is largely based on interactions with China and the EU and much of our GDP is propped up by loans from China. So we are significantly more tied to them than you are aware.

1. Kick out all illegal immigrants, cap legal immigration at 5,000 per year, make it stricter to become US citizen.

2. Mine US-Mexico border, beef up border security

3.Dissolve unneeded and wasteful gov't departments such as the Dept of Education, DEA, etc contract out to private sector jobs frmr gov't depts would be in charge of.

4.Dissolve the Federal Resolve

5. Pull out of UN

6. Make English the official language

7. Guarantee greater states rights, make the south a semi autonomous region and recognize southerners as a "nation" - similar to how quebec is today

8. Legalize all drugs that don't undergo any sort of chemical refinement i.e. marijuana, mushrooms, peyote, while levying a 10% tax to go towards establishing a reasonable and just welfare

9.Pardon all non violent drug offenders

10. Increase defense spending while cutting taxes

11. Increase domestic drilling to supplement clean natural gas, and nuclear energy.

Export out CNG and oil to Western Europe so they don't have to be dependent on Russian Energy.

12. Deport all Muslims

13. Tax cuts tax cuts tax cuts

no, no we arent. You clearly cannot draw the distinction between State to State interactions and global economy. Our two governments borrow and yes china buys up hundreds of billions of dollars worth of treasury bonds per year but that money goes to the Fed and ultimately is used in Federal projects. The loans we get from China have nothing to do with our GDP. Our GDP is completely based on our private sector and what our country pulls in... You can't just borrow say a trillion dollars and add that to your GDP lol. In fact, do you even know what a GDP is?

Moreover, there is very little EU to USA globalization. If you think about it, only automobiles come from the EU really. And if you think about it, the vast majority of the consumer base of the major european automakers are US citizens. the EU and China mainly export where we import. Our own companies rely largely on domestic markets. That said, without the US, the EU but more so China would be crippled. What other country has both the highest total GDP and highest per capita GDP? Who would buy all the shit crap that comes out of China? Who would outsource in mass migrations to china? What other countries' citizens are wealthy enough to purchase mercedes', vw's, audi's, bmw's, etc? NONE. Its true that we have very interconnected economies but China and the EU rely much more heavily on the US than the US does on them.

All that aside, please reread my post on the economic extrapolation of GDPs...

I wasn't saying that we just took out a loan and added it to our GDP. You know those hundreds of billions of dollars of treasury bonds that China buys? You're correct, that money goes to the Fed. And you're right that the Fed uses it on Federal projects. But it's predominantly private sector companies that carry out those Federal projects. So there goes that money... straight into the private sector. Which eventually ends up in the hands of people and companies that are creating products and interacting with other countries. GrossDomesticProduct. haha.

The EU exports more than cars - just cause you dont see it in American markets doesnt mean it doesnt exist. I really think you're neglecting the inevitability of China and Asia as a whole modernizing, as well as trade relations between growing powers, such as EU to China and visa versa, just as a cheap example.

And plenty of luxury goods, including cars are being bought by other non-US countries. Like... China:
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/China_Business/HK28Cb02.html

We're interconnected now, but as our economy begins to tank, I think we'll definitely see these relationships thin.

I generally agree with you on a lot of things but i definitely differ with some of the stuff you say. Here's what my agenda would look like as president:

1. Kick out all illegal immigrants, cap legal imigration at 100,000 a year

2. Mine US-Mexico border, legalize offshore drilling, INTENSELY beef up border security

3. Dissolve unneeded and wasteful government departments such as Department of housing and urban affairs, unemployment/welfare, social security, medicare and medicaid. You can't get rid of department of education because there is no market incentive and any firm would lose money over the long run. Moreover, it would obsolve the requirement of families to send their children to school in the first place, and thus make many situations worse and increase spending in the aforementioned departments.

4. Bolster our current foreign policy and confront Canada and France and be more firm.

5. Secure Iraq while mainting a firm position with Iran and North Korea

6. cut taxes

7. cut spending

8. cut taxes

9. cut taxes

10. propose federal ban on gay marriage and abortion

11. cut spending

12. cut taxes.

in response to this part:
There is little EU to USA "globalization" as you like to call it. We like to all it trade. And there is little of it now because our current government is being ridiculous in negotiations and is refusing to reform legislation that everyone knows harms the markets. Ex. farming. As you will see in the coming years, companies will start to rely less and less on domestic markets as our economy continues to falter. Some of these changes are already happening with... let's use car companies... GM is losing money domestically and profiting overseas.

If you have ever been to an EU country, let's say France or Italy or Germany, you have seen that there are tons of Mercedes, VW's, Audi's, and BMW's driving around. Obviously someone is buying them because they aren't being given away. People in other countries are better off than you think. They just don't spend their money on the same things we do. And I'm not talking about the Third World countries.

you're not getting what i'm saying. Im saying on the surface it might appear like china's growing GDP is great and everything but if you look deeper, you'll see that their citizens generate an equivalent purchasing power parity of 5k per year. Luxury car sales in china are vastly bought by government officials. If you think the gap between the wealthy and the poor is bad here in america than man will you be surprised when you get to china.

You also know absolutely nothing about economics so i'd shut the fuck up. How is our economy tanking? You realize we havent even hit sub 1% GDP growth on a year or quarter yet! A recession doesnt happen until there is stagnancy or regression. You realized we have survived through many many recessions even during the cold war? If you honestly think that within 100 years China can surpass America you're out of your mind!

Haha. O man. This is getting better and better with every post I read from you. Stop living in the past. The future is coming quick and it's about to fuck you seven ways to Sunday my friend.

P. you seem to like to go on feeling rather than actual empirical observation. IF YOU HAVE EVER BEEN TO A EU COUNTRY, YOU WOULD KNOW ALMOST NO ONE OWNS A CAR. Its not like here in America where its like a 1:1 car to person ration. Its like a 1:25 car to person ratio in europe. And its mostly peugot's at that!

People in other countries are not better off than i think. I know how well off they are:

France per capita income: 33k

Spain per captia income: 30k

Germany per capita income: 34k

Italy per capita income: 30k

Those are the highest in the EU. The average per capita GDP of the EU is only 23k!!! In the US it is 46k!! Not to mention how much more expensive the relative cost of living is in the EU! I don't think you understand what GDP means, per capita income means or how economics work.

I will tell you this: It is very, very hard to gain and sustain just an increase of 1k per capita income.

You're right, fuck China's population and massive move to modernize, that obviously means nothing.

Also, where the fuck do you always come out hostile from, telling people to shut the fuck up? Uncalled for man. Must be a huge hardon you're stroking off of this.

I'm happy you have an amazing grasp of the cold hard facts, but you are lacking in the theory category. You also aren't really understanding what I'm saying. People spend there money and completely different things in Europe. People do kill themselves trying to pay for a house in Europe and instead use that money saved for other things. But we should really stop this because you are starting to attack me instead of the issue. We are also completely off the topic of this thread. So I bid you farewell. Enjoy the copious amount of "higher education" you have obtained. Hopefully it helps you accomplish all those goals you put forth earlier in the thread.

you misread what i said because you know i'm a liberal from previous posts. thus, you jumped to the conclusion that i'm an idiot. free energy is an idea that, as president, i would love to promote my country to invest in. think of the possibilities. there's support that it is possible. improbable, but possible.

i never said anything about saying fuck you to russia or appologizing ot france. i said i'd say fuck you to georgia, not russia. i said i'd appologize to all the countries we've been fucking with/fucking over. you're diggin way too deep. i would not like to see georgians die but the fact is that they attacked first and are massacring south ossetians.

yes, i talk about minding our own business, that's exactly why i would put gay marriage on the backburner. please explain how gay marriage is fundamental to how our system of gov't works. i'd love to hear that argument while keeping the separation of church and state intact along with the constitutional right that every citizen deserves equal rights. Leave it up to the states. Let state sovereignty take it's course.

this is just my opinion. don't go around calling people uneducated idiots when you have no idea who they are, or what background knowledge they have. that is why there is so much confict in the world today. we're all so damn hostile toward each other. even just for ideas. if you dont' agree, then agree to disagree.

sorry that was atypo i meant to say georgia not russia.

Ok first of all where in the constitution does it say there is a seperation of church and state? The first amendment, the only part anywhere in the constitution that pertains to any form of religion whatsoever, says: "Congress shall make no law respecting an ESTABLISHMENT of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

This means that our government cannot pass laws that establish a national religion or make laws that specifically intend on preferring one ESTABLISHED religion over another. What congress is allowed to do is pass laws that uphold moral values held by the majority of the people. It just so happens that the vast majority of americans are also christians. Moreover, it doesn't infringe on anyone's established religion. In fact, all established religions condemn gay marriage to one degree or another. So to appeal the gay marriage ban actually infringes on the livelyhood and lifestyle of practicing christians and jews. Thus that law would infringe on the free exercise of an ESTABLISHED religion.

The reason gay marriage would affect our fundamental government is a very sophisticated issue im not sure you could grasp without first reading the constitution. Article four is the article that pertains to the powers of the states. In it is the Faith and Credibility clause. The reason this cannot be left to the states is because marriage is a law that falls under the Faith and Credibility clause. IE if i get married in nebraska, im still married even if i move to alaska. I don't need to remarry in alaska. Thus if one state makes it legal, it pretty much makes it legal for the rest of the states. Now, Bill Clinton proposed and congress passed the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996. it states: No state (or other political subdivision within the United States)

need treat a relationship between persons of the same sex as a

marriage, even if the relationship is considered a marriage in another

state. The Federal Government may not treat same-sex relationships as marriages for any purpose, even if concluded or recognized by one of the states. This is a clear contradiction to article 4 of the constitution. On one hand you have the vast majority of people who want to define marriage, the term marriage, as a sacred union between husband and wife and on the other hand people want lifestyle tolerance. People want marriage to be a state right yet the act of marriage is not contained within the sovereign borders of a single state. It is a very large dilemma over states vs federal rights and how power is balanced. Do we want larger federal governments or should we simply take marriage away from states?

If you choose to uphold the gay marriage ban than it is simply one act overriding a single states' law. Seeing as how the constitution and laws passed by congress are the Supreme Law of the Land, I see no problem with it.

If you choose to abolish it, then you must also ammend Article 4 of the constitution and essentially eliminate the Faith and Credibility clause and states would gain seperation. It would probably never pass seeing as how ammendments take a really, really long time to pass.

"we like to call it trade." who's "we"? you and the rest of NS who have never taken econ?

What is ridiculous about our current legislation? Bush vetoed a bill granting domestic farmers increased subsidaries. Currently i think all or very very close to all domestic agriculture is subsidized because if you took economics, you would know it is impossible to profit from agriculture in the modern world over a long run. You compete in a perfect market and everyone has the same product. Thus farming is a subsidized sect in our economy. You realize that because they are subsidized, farmers making more or less money has absolutely 0 effect on our free economy? All it means is the government subsidizes more (i.e. more taxes) But that tax increase is so minute that it doesn't directly effect anyone. Its not like if we stop buying our domestic corn, CORN gets traded less on the NYSE lol.

GM is losing money domestically because they produce crap cars. Their cars have been going down in quality for a number of years now. It has nothing to do with our "faltering" economy. I could draw out the equilibrium graph as to why GM who suffers from mass diseconomies of scale loses money domestically but profits overseas.

If you think the EU is growing you must be out of your mind. Do you think our economy is bad right now? Our GDP is growing at 2.2% and we think we are in trouble. Our 60 year high unemployment rate has been between 5.9% and 6.1%. France, one of the 4 wealthiest countries in the EU has a GDP increase of only 1.9% and an umployment rate of 8.3%!!!

please show me where. in the bible. or torah. or koran. or any religious script, it says that gay marriage is a bad thing.

along with that. explain to me how NOT allowing gays to marry isnt an infringement on their freedoms as people.

and along with that, please explain to me how in any way shape or form whatsoever, one man marrying another, or one woman marrying another, effects anyone else on the planet.
